Morgan Stanley (MS): Turnaround play?

Regarding Morgan Stanely (NYSE: MS), Mike Cintolo in The Cabot Top Ten Report, asks, "A Wall Street firm in our top 10?" He adds, "Believe it! " Here's his overview of the stock."Actually, we’re not ready to give the 'all clear' for financial stocks, but as the sector went from bad to worse in recent months, the wheat did begin to separate from the chaff."And, for now, Morgan Stanley is the strongest of the group. The major reason:  Profits are likely coming back in a big way, beginning in the fi rm’s current fiscal quarter.  (Analysts are expecting $2.50 a share this year and $3.50 next)."Now, we know you’ve probably heard that yarn before, but Morgan’s balance sheet appears far, far cleaner than most infected banks, and with its integration of Smith Barney’s operations (it owns a majority stake), the company’s business looks ...

Stanley Kurtz, If Obama's With "Weather Underground", I Am Too
2008-08-22 11:44:00
National Review Contributing Editor Stanley Kurtz either has little to do, or has taken something which caused his intelligence quotient to fly South for the Summer. He's trying to link Senator Barack Obama to the alledged terrorist group of 1960s Chicago called "The Weather Underground" through the fact that in 2002, Obama and William Ayers, one of its members, were on the same board of directors of a Chicago non-profit.There's one problem. Barack Obama was a kid in the 60s and not even living in Chicago. But I was in Chicago in the 60s and was born there -- proudly. So to look at Kurtz logic, I'm as much if not more a real Weatherman than Obama. In fact, why not count every Black male and kid in Chicago at the time!See how silly Kurtz' argument is? More proof that conservatives are fishing for anything that they think will stick to Senator Obama on his way toward the presidency, even if it's just totally stupid.

Wrong Team Wins Stanley Cup
2008-06-05 14:03:00
There has to be some kind of mistake here.  Gary Bettman, commissioner of the NHL, rigged the entire hockey season just so the Pittsburgh Penguins---his favorite team---would win the Stanley Cup.  Unfortunately, they lost in game 6 and some other team got to take home the trophy. How on Earth are we supposed to have a conspiracy if the wrong team wins? I'm not going to talk much more about this.  Detroit winning the Cup is the finishing touch on a season I'm glad is over.  The quicker we can all put 2007-08 behind us, the better. My advice to you: stay clear of Red Wings blogs and/or fans for a while.  They're going to be pretty intolerable for some time. Pens in 9.
Stanley Cup final: Detroit champion.
2008-06-05 06:18:00
Yesterday, game six of the Stanley Cup final was played at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. After defeating the Detroit Red Wings in game five and avoiding elimination, the Pittsburgh Penguins were back on home ice hoping to extend the series to a seventh game. The Red Wings played much better in this game compared to game five. Early into the contest during a man-advantage, Brian Rafalski opened the score with a wrist shot that got past Marc-André Fleury.Valteri Fillipula doubled the Wings lead into the second period on a rebound given by the Penguins goaltender. But the Penguins refused to give up and Evgeni Malkin finally scored his first goal in this final to cut the Wings lead to a single goal.Into the third period, the Wings regained their two goals lead when a shot from Henrik Zetterberg got thru Marc-André Fleury. After a few seconds of indecision, Fleury pushed the puck inside his own goal while he was looking to cover the loose puck. This goal prooved to be a killer for the ...

Up 3-1 in the series, the Detroit Red Wings had the opportunity to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins one more time and win the championship in front of their fans. The first period was dominated by the Penguins who played with desperation. Marian Hossa opened the score halfway into the period with his 11th goal of the playoffs. Then, Adam Hall doubled Pittsburgh's lead before the end of the first frame. But the Red Wings shifted gears and started to play better as the game went on. Early into the second period, Darren Helm put one past goaltender Marc-André Fleury making it a 2-1 game.Into the third period, Pavel Datsuk tied the game at 2 with his 10th goal of the playoffs during a man-advantage. Stanley Cup final: Detroit, one hand on the trophy.

Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost on home ice for the first time in these playoffs. Stanley Cup final: Penguins still perfect at Mellon Arena.

Yesterday, game three of the Stanley Cup final was played at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Penguins were in a must win situation as they were trailing the Detroit Red Wings 0-2 in the series. Yeah, I'm at work. I don't want to be here, but I am. Let's hope this day goes by quickly, eh? Anyone else feel like the Red Wings totally threw the game last night? That was one intense game and I'm highly disappointed with the ending score, but hey.. it's only one game. I think they purposely lost so that the Stanley Cup will be won here in Detroit. Then all the local restaurants can profit from our victory as well. It's all about the money.

This is just a friendly reminder to take your SCF chit chat over to Pensburgh , where the Penguins die-hards like FrankD and JDunman will be desperately seeking as much moral support as they can get.  Who better to prop up their sagging spirits when facing the Red Wings than Avalanche fans? Head over to Pensburgh and chime in once he gets the thread posted.  Unless of course you're rooting against the Penguins and for the Red Wings.  In that case, you should just find a dark cellar and lock yourself in it.  Forever.
Viet Nam Faces `Currency Crisis,' Morgan Stanley Says

Viet Nam is heading for a ``currency crisis,'' similar to that of Thailand's baht in 1997, because the central bank has kept the dong too strong as inflation soars and the trade deficit widens, said Morgan Stanley. Yesterday, game two of the Stanley Cup final was presented at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Detroit Red Wings, after defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins with ease by the score of 4-0 during game one of the series, played an even better game as they only left bits to their opponents.During the first period, defense-men Brad Stuart scored his first goal of the playoffs as he opened the score for the Wings with a shot on Marc-André Fleury's stick side. Only a few minutes later, after a turnover committed by the Penguins defense, Henrik Zetterberg's shot was partially blocked by the Penguins' goaltender. Tomas Holmstrom pushed the loose puck over the goal line to double the Wings lead.Valteri Fillipula completed the score during the third period with a spectacular individual play.
