Local population key in Iraqi, Coalition forces steady progress
2007-05-13 18:40:00 When people say we can't win the war in Iraq militarily, they're correct (no matter how bone-headed they are about the specifics). If our goal were to subjugate Iraq and steal their oil, then no, we don't need Iraqi cooperation and yes, a brutal military would be all we need. But, our goal is to have a free, successful, peaceful, and friendly Iraq. And, for that, the Iraqis have to be on board. Thursday, 10 May 2007 U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, the Multi-National Force-Iraq spokesman, and U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. David Edgington, director of the Air Component Coordination Element provided an update on security operations and discussed the contribution of air support to Coalition forces Wednesday at the Combined Press Information Center. ?The future of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq,? said Caldwell. ?They are the key to the leadership of this country.? ?Iraqi partners must take responsibility for their own security, governance and economics,? he added. Try My Plan Instead - It's Called "GTFO"
2007-05-07 18:30:00 As long as Fred Kagan talked about alphabetized plans for ?the surge? yesterday in the New York Times (discussing his Plan A, then brushing off Plan B a la Condi here ? Repugs and their acolytes are always on the same page with ?the message? in good times and bad, though I can never recall when times were good), I?d like to introduce my own for our people (the expurgated long term would be Get The Frack Out).Kagan starts off by shooting himself in the foot, as it were, in typically arrogant Bushco fashion? In fact, the debate shows only how little the critics of the war understand about military operations. As one of the initial proponents of the surge, I argue that there is no Plan B because there cannot be one. The idea that there can be a single alternative strategy, developed now, just at the beginning of the surge, is antithetical to the dynamic nature of war. At this early stage, there are only possible general responses to various contingencies, which will become more focused ...

Brazil: 'Steady as a rock'
2007-05-07 06:00:00 “Brazil is like a rock, a steady democratic economy expanding under the rule of law,” notes Richard Lehmann. Here’s an recent pick from his Forbes/Lehmann ETF Investor. “The U.S. looks at Brazil’s pledge to end its dependence on foreign oil and sees that they accomplished that goal. The U.S. on the other hand has only paid lip service to and talked about energy independence for the past 30 years, while watching our dependency only deepen. “The strength of the Brazilian economy is in raw materials, specifically metals and mining. Fortunately, worldwide demand for their products has been strong.“The iShares MSCI Brazil Index (ASE: EWZ) was initially recommended in our February 2006 newsletter at a price of $40.26. The shares are now trading at $52.80 a nice 31.15% gain insomewhat over a year“With no other suitable Brazil-oriented funds that we would recommend, the iShares Brazil fund is the only game in town so the relatively high .074...

Progs Says To Hell With the Cardinals Series and Instead Grades the Season
2007-04-23 02:56:00 At this point my friends, if the way this team has played so far is any indication of how the rest of the season will unfold, we can say with confidence that the alleged "spending spree" Hendry embarked upon for the Trib's last hurrah will amount to little more than the above photograph. Folks, this is not a very good baseball team. Compared to last season of course, the 2007 version of Losers Inc. is markedly better, quite possibly to the tune of 75-80 wins. But when your stated goal is to win and win often, and when your roster is built for short-term dividends at the cost of long-term gain, making a couple of strides forward over the previous year's disaster simply doesn't cut the mustard. For Hendry's plan to work, this team has to take a giant leap. And assuming what we currently see is what we will continue to get (with some room for the inevitible reversion to the mean for both hitting and pitching), then this grand illusion, that of this team trying to buy their way out...

The Autism Market - Let's Learn How to Prevent Autism Instead of Growing a
2007-04-21 03:08:00 By LIDIA WASOWICZUPI Senior Science WriterSAN FRANCISCO April 20 (UPI) -- An estimated one-third of youngsters with autism are prescribed psychotropic drugs to control their behavior and outlook, scientists report. The more common pharmaceutical aids include anti-depressants like Prozac for anxiety and depression, stimulants like Ritalin for hyperactivity and impulsivity, anti-convulsants for seizures and anti-psychotic drugs, usually reserved for schizophrenia, for aggression. In certain cases, these medications can quell such behavioral offshoots of autism as self-injury and severe tantrums, but they do not alter the underlying condition and can wreak havoc with some children's moods and pose other potential risks, doctors say. "There is no great drug for autism," said Texas psychologist Steven Gutstein, developer of a behavioral treatment called relationship development intervention. "Children with autism can have other problems that require medication like attentional problems ...
All inclusive resort vacation instead?
2007-04-20 16:12:00 Ya, I'm back to talking about my upcoming trip back to the US, but I decided i'm not really into the whole country lodge style, I want to indulge myself, I haven't been on a vacation in what seems like forever, and in reality it has been nearly 5 years. But you see I still want to say somewhat budget conscious, so it's great that I recently came across Vacations.net which offers high-end all inclusive resort vacation but at budget pricing, when I saw some of the images of their locations and their wicked low pricing it really got me a bit excited :) I'd never even thought of taking an all inclusive resort vacation before because I always thought it would unbelieveably expensive, what's even better they offer their packages in even more amazing locations, specializing in the sunny resort styles like Port St. Lucie florida, one of my favorite places in florida. But if your the oppositive of me as most people seem to be you can also get them to book you the all inclusive ...

DOUG BECKSTEAD - A TEXTBOOK CASE OF CYBERPATHY
2007-04-18 02:46:00 At their core - most Cyberpaths are Narcissistic types. Here's some input from other victims who posted to WikiAnswers on Narcissistic types - see how much fits our Predator of the Month: Doug Beckstead! (as always EOPC's comments are in purple)* They are the biggest liars you've ever seen. They will look you right in your eyes, swear on a stack of bibles and tell you the biggest lie you've ever heard. They will say they're not going to do something, while plotting to do just what they say they wouldn't do. They're very out of touch with their feelings. They talk just to hear themselves talk - while not believing anything they're trying to convince you of. * It will become obvious very soon: an over-inflated ego. Astonishing lies. * A narcissist is, at first glance, a friendly, real person. This is the narcissist's bait. The person lures people in, only to control them, in any shape or form. You will not recognize this, but as time progresses, you will feel guilty. The m...

Close-End Funds: A Steady Income Vehicle

Why would someone invest in them ? Let us find out. What are Close-End FundsClose-End funds are usually sponsored by a fund management company, which will control how the money pooled-in by the investors will be invested. Fund managers create a portfolio for the fund depending on the type of fund. Some funds invest in stocks, others in bonds, others in emerging market, and some in very specific things. Investors choose to place their assets in closed-end funds in the hope that the fund managers will use their management skills and deliver better returns. The fund management company will issue a fixed number of shares to the investors in form of an IPO.
