Stonewall Jackson
2008-01-12 09:23:00 Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson (January 21, 1824[1] – May 10, 1863) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, and probably the most revered Confederate commander after General Robert E. Lee.[2] He is most famous for his audacious Valley Campaign of 1862 and as a corps commander in the Army of Northern Virginia under Robert E. Lee. His own troops accidentally shot him at the Battle of Chancellorsville, which the general survived, albeit with the loss of an arm to amputation. However, he died of complications of pneumonia several days later.Military historians consider Jackson to be one of the most gifted tactical commanders in United States history. His Valley Campaign and his envelopment of the Union Army right wing at Chancellorsville are studied worldwide even today as examples of innovative and bold leadership. He excelled as well at the First Battle of Bull Run (where he received his famous nickname "Stonewall"), Second Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksbur...

The First Lady Of Stonewall Jackson She's a Rare Woman Coaching Boys
2008-01-11 05:27:00 QUICKSBURG, Va. -- When Sophie Stout opened the e-mail that would change her life and jolt the small town where she lived, she felt an overwhelming sense of purpose. Sitting at the wooden desk in her middle school classroom last March, she didn't immediately consider the ramifications of what it might be like as a woman coaching a high school varsity boys' basketball team. She simply saw an opportunity to fulfill a dream, an avenue to help a struggling program and the many young men who pass through it."You know how sometimes you have something telling you that this would be a good thing?" Stout said. "I had one of those vibes."The e-mail merely announced that the boys' varsity basketball coaching job at Stonewall Jackson High was open; the vibe told Stout the job would be hers. Three months later, the school -- and community -- agreed.Of the 514 public high schools in Virginia, Maryland and the District, Stout is one of two women coaching varsity boys' basketball; the other is ...

Being the perfectionist that she was, she took that thought to heart and began feeling uncomfortable on television because she wasn't secure with her body and how it looked, and I think that led t...

Stonewall Jackson VS. The Opry: Whose Side Are You On?
2007-02-11 11:13:05 More news has popped up on the Stonewall Jackson and Opry lawsuit. The article basically reiterates all the complaints that Jackson had a while back and explains the other side of the story. Jackson’s Accusations Jackson said he approached Fisher on several occasions and was told things like, ‘I don’t want any gray hairs on that stage or in the audience, and before I’m done there won’t be any’ and ‘You’re too old and too country.’ Jackson further alleged in his lawsuit that the reduction in appearances violated the Opry’s union contract with The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He also said it breached a long-standing agreement between the Opry and its stars that in exchange for performing at least 26 times a year _ even during the height of their careers when they could make much more money playing tour dates _ they could always remain an Opry member. ————-212;——... |
