Patriot Acts...Strategic Planning - Part Two
2008-12-26 07:20:00 At the crowning of every American Head of State there is undoubtedly great anticipation melanged with a fair measure trepidation. This person, just like all the others, had considered themselves, perhaps not worthy, yet somehow still deserving of the honor. Will this man or woman fulfill their word, for which both believers and the haphazard had already cast their approval? It is not always the man or woman who can say that they actually produced the moral and fearless resolve to remain strong in the face of adversity, which surely awaits each and every successive leader of both the strongest and somehow increasingly impotent nation that seems to have dangerously lost its edge on too many levels. In Part one of Patriot Acts - Strategic Planning you saw the inner-workings of an infant administration callously and mercilessly thrust into a crisis that, if enacted, would cause the memory of September 11, 2001 shrink into obscurity, except for the true guardians of freedom.I hope you...
Patriot Acts...Strategic Planning - Part One
2008-12-23 19:57:00 Patriot Acts...Strategic Planning - Part OneWhat Do You Think...? There are some stark days ahead for the United States its efforts to stop the Islamic Republic of Iran from developing nuclear weapons. There is an intrinsic need to deal with Iran which is in the process of building a nuclear reactor and enriching uranium that it says would be used for its energy needs. Now we see that this nation has been thrust upon the world stage and is now at the center of international debate regarding its nuclear ambitions. Therefore, it is only logical that we should take a look at whether this fanatical Shiite State should be allowed to possess such technology. Does a land that is sitting on a sea of oil really have energy needs that could not be met by its massive reserve of crude? Would it be wise to trust the nation that launched the present wave of terror through out the world in 1979 with a nuclear arsenal? Can we continue to work closely with any nation, such as Russia, that would he...

Strategic Spot Starting - Week Edition
2008-06-09 11:26:00 We had some good picks last week and some not so good, but we are still performing better than chance. Looking ahead through Thursday? Monday: Mike Mussina against KC and Jesse Litsch against Seattle are both good matchups. Litsch actually has pretty poor career numbers against the team but I'm writing the 8+ ERA off as small sample size.Tuesday: Greg Maddux against the Dodgers is a solid spot start. He has a sub-3.00 ERA against the team and shut them out earlier this season. Aaron Cook against San Francisco would be better if it weren't at Colorado, and for that reason doesn't warrant the pick up. Tim Redding dominated the Pirates in their last meeting and is a solid option in deeper leagues despite his recent struggles. Millwood, like Cook, looks to have a good matchup but the career numbers against Kansas City suggest otherwise. I would start Eveland against New York, but I'm not sure I'd pick him up to do it.Wednesday: Jimenez also faces SF at home, but he shut them out in...

Strategic Spot Starters: Week Edition
2008-06-02 12:42:00 I've expanded my list of worthy starters this week, since I think it's about this point in the year that some "name recognition" players are finally dropped when they should have been for weeks (ex. Joe Blanton). Let's look at the Mon-thru-Thurs. Monday: Despite the addition of new names, not many pitchers go today beyond Tim Wakefield. Wakefield was great in his last start against Seattle, which can be attributed to above-average control. I like the start since he hasn't faced Baltimore this year, meaning the slew of imports are relatively unfamiliar with his knuckler.Tuesday: I don't like Garza at Boston, but I do like Boston's starter, Justin Masterson. He's given up one run and no more than three hits in his only two starts this year, holding apponents to a .128 BAA. His control is bad, but the Rays are free swingers. Dana Eveland at home is always a decent start, even against the Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde of Detroit's offense. Padilla has surprised me in the past, but his...

Strategic Spot Starting: Weekend Edition
2008-05-29 12:56:00 Here we are on Thursday, so let's look at some positive matchups for over the weekend. Kershaw will pitch again, so there's going to be a lot of hype (of course, he isn't a free agent and won't be any time soon). As a side note, the way I do this is by "Watch Listing" marginal pitchers I consider spot start worthy, and checking their opponents. The flaw is that I may miss a pitcher who I don't think of as particularly viable, so if you have such a pitcher in mind, let me know and I'll add him into the data. Friday: Todd Wellemeyer goes against Pittsburgh, which is always a good matchup and Wellemeyer has been solid against the Pirates this season, though not amazing. Greg Maddux at San Francisco is a great matchup, as he's given up only one run in fourteen innings against the team this year. If neither of the former are available and you really want to start someone, Mike Mussina has great career numbers against Minnesota, and his recent struggles could be corrected against t...

Strategic Spot Starting - Week Edition
2008-05-26 13:11:00 Here we go again. I actually like this tool, but mostly because my favorite leagues are head-to-head weekly leagues, which I encourage you to try. As a side note, how do FA pickups work in auction leagues? Monday: Arizona has averaged seven runs over the first three games of their Atlanta series, so Jair Jurrjens matchup isn't as intriguing as it might be. Still, the attractive home ERA and Arizona's declining May offense suggest a pickup is worthy, simply because Jurrjens should be owned either way. Darrell Rasner hasn't played at Camden Yards, but shutout the O's last time they faced earlier this year. He should be good for the win at least.Tuesday: Greg Smith should be owned, but in shallow leagues he may still be a FA worth adding against the Blue Jays at home. Vicente Padilla, Nick Blackburn, and Shawn Hill all have what look to be favorable matchups (@TB, @ KC, @SD) but Padilla has been rocked by the Rays in the past and I can't see that changing with an improved offense....

Strategic Spot Starting - Weekend Edition
2008-05-22 02:23:00 Let's continue our first tool here at Rotonomics. I would appreciate any feedback on the topic, since this is really our first stray from Editorials and with a limited amount of time, it'd be good to know this research is useful. Also, if you have any ideas for what you think could help fantasy leaguers, let us know in the comments. But alas!Friday: Tim Wakefield at Oakland isn't a terrible matchup, and the veteran is always a favorite of mine for spot starting. This is especially true in interleague play when the NL-team isn't accustomed to his knuckler. Matt Garza at home against Baltimore is another decent start if he isn't owned in your league, but even if he performs well keep in mind he's still too inconsistent to provide reliable fantasy outings.Saturday: Saturday looks to be a big day for aces, as few free agents are scheduled for the start. Justin Duchscherer plays Boston, a team he's had a lot of success against (2.66 ERA, 23 Ks in 20 innings of relief). Still, Bost...

Strategic Spot Starting - Week Edition
2008-05-19 10:45:00 As our viewership increased, I realized that many reader's might actually come to Rotonomics for more than the editorials. This is good, but I don't think we've been providing the overall assistance such a circumstance demands. Hence, this is our version of "Waiver Wired"--but focusing on spot starters over the course of a week. Unfortunately, I didn't think of this until today, but in the future it will be up Sunday for those of you in weekly leagues. MondayDon't be fooled by Wilfredo Ledezma's ridiculous name or low ERA, his WHIP and walk rate paint an entirely different pitcher. I don't mind the home matchup, but at this point in the week there is no use being desperate. Jon Lester is a subpar start against the Royals, despite the latter representing the worst offense in baseball. If you're desperate, he's your man, but I wouldn't take the risk.TuesdayThere are a lot of options on the second day of the week. Justin Masterson is spot starting for the BoSox and is must ad...

Strategic Analysis Best Practice 7 - Diverse Models

In order to successfully deal with this challenge, decision-makers need the support of people and tools to help them distill large quantities of data, recognize important business trends, discount temporary fads, and translate their findings into meaningful organizational activities. Because no one analysis perspective will adequately account for all of the important nuances associated with a complex problem, multidiscipline teams and diverse tools should be employed to establish a complete picture organizational performance and environmental conditions. Use of a diverse set of models during the strategic analysis process helps create this needed picture.* As discussed in Strategic Analysis Best Practice 5 - The Use of Models, organizational leaders benefit ...

Strategic Analysis Best Practice 6 - Multidiscipline Teams
2008-04-25 04:32:00 Today’s businesses operate in complex, multidimensional environments and often execute highly dynamic and interrelated processes. Evaluating these circumstances collectively requires a breadth and depth of knowledge not likely to be possessed by a single individual. In order to apply the range of knowledge and experience necessary to perform a complete strategic analysis subsequently requires the use of a multidiscipline team. Multidiscipline teams help ensure the full range of needed knowledge and experience resources are brought to bear when evaluating, in aggregate, the interrelationships and interactions of the complex business environment with the execution of the organization’s programs, processes, and procedures. Having enough knowledge and experience resources occurs when the strategic analysis team includes individuals that together possess the background necessary to recognize significant beneficial and adverse performance drivers given the business’s operating situa...

Strategic Asset Allocation Strategy
2008-04-23 12:34:00 Strategic asset allocation strategy is a portfolio management strategy, which includes periodical adjustments of investments with respect to the long-term goal. The basic idea is to diversify the investments and limit the portfolio volatility. But strategic asset allocation strategy does not include over-investing in either high-profit or low-risk securities. In general, strategic asset allocation strategies do not consider the short-term performances of allocated assets. They only look for long-term performances, which is often positive to almost all investments. For example if stocks grow at 10% and bonds at 5% annually, then with a 50-50 asset allocation 7.5% yield is predicted, and the portfolio manager adjusts asset allocation to meet this yield.Strategic asset allocation strategy requires long-term anticipation and forecasting. Portfolio managers consider various economic indicators and industry performances when readjusting the investments. If higher inflation rate is expected...

How to Choose Right Strategic Partners?
2008-04-21 15:01:00 Strategic partnerships often become very important to businesses. Your strategic partners offer you services to keep you survive and outrun your competition and in return they expect usually the same thing from you. For long-term success and growth of a company strategic partnerships help a lot. Here are some tips for choosing the right partners.First thing, make sure you need partnerships for enhancing your functionality.
