Ziova intros ClearStream CS615 HD media streamer
2007-12-30 07:53:00
Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment It's been a tick since Ziova cranked out a new media streamer, but its ClearStream CS615 looks pretty promising. Interestingly, this one doesn't feature any built-in wireless capabilities nor a DVD drive, but it seems as if the firm's CEO is aiming this unit at folks who didn't want to go cordless, anyway. You will, however, find USB 2.0 and 10 / 100 Ethernet ports along with a caddy for an internal 3.5-inch HDD, and the support for WAV, H.264, FLAC, OGG, LPCM, WMA, AAC, AC3, DTS, MPEG1/2/3/4, WMV9, QuickTime, JPG, BMP, GIF and PNG files (just to name a few) ain't too shabby, either. Furthermore, there's HDMI (HDCP-compliant), S-Video, composite and component video jacks, support for SMB / FTP and a front-mounted LCD to dish out ID3 tags and other pertinent information. The CS615 is slated to land stateside in March for $329, while Europeans and Aussies can expect it to head their way shortly thereafter. Read | Permalink | ...

Hi Rich, for 1 : the most details about the RTP protocol you can find "RTP Streaming.pdf" , The RTP protocol adds a little header (with a sequence number) to the audio data each network packet. If a packet is lost in the network, then the receiver/Exstreamer can discover that an will play the next incoming frame twice to remain in time sync with the Instreamer. Each network packet contains audio data for 20-30 ms, depending from the encoding frequency. If 1 or 2 packets are lost then the time would be too short to hear it also when the audio content would be completely different! RTP is a unidirectional protocol, that´s perfect also for satellite transmission with longer latencys . for 2 : Yes, the "Start Threshold" or "UDP Start Threshold" defines the audio buffer. There you define how much audio data the Exstreamer must receive before start playing. With this value you can define also delay. The best value depends from here from the used audio...

[exstreamer] Re: Barix Instreamer - Encoding rates

Hi Johannes, The problem I have is that often we are streaming multiple matches from different locations at the same time. They all go to the same IP on different ports to shoutcast servers but I can't run multiple instances of WinAmp on the same server to re-encode more than 1 stream. Also I need a solution that is the least complicated. Cheers, Warwick --- In exstreamer@yahoogroups.com, "Johannes G. Hi Warwick, you should get down to about 40kbps with a lower sample rate, mono, quality 0 ... We are, unfortunately, tied into the combinations/encoding the DSP we use offers, and roundabout 40kbps is the lowest available. But maybe you can build up a "combo" like - using the Instreamer to stream to your server at a reasonable rate, playback via winamp, re-encoding with the DSP plugin to a very low rate and feeding the shoutcast server with that ? Greetings Johannes I am looking for a solution to offer MP3 streams at 28-32kbps. I am currently streaming MP3 32 Khz at a quality of 2 which produces a 64 Kbps stream. I can't set the box to go much lower than this with the lowest quality being the only option to reduce the bit rate by a few Kb. This is the relayed to users via shoutcast server. Our hosting environment is Windows so I am tied to shoutcast. The stream is live match commentary and the quality of the sound is exceptional, however we have buffering issues once the stream gets over 40 to 50 concurrent streams. As many users that follow this sport are on dial-up we are ruling out a large part of our potential audience. Is there a firmware update available which has different/lower MP3 rates available for the Barix Instreamer? Alternatively can anyone recommend a software solution that is suitable for re-encoding a live stream to multiple bit rates? __._,_.___ M...

This new firmware (as well as 8.10) seems to break audio output on my exstreamer wireless. Even SonicIP stops announcing the ip address through the outputs. The update works fine on my exstreamer 100's though. Is it OK to power an instreamer from a 24v power supply instead of the 9v? The unit is co-located to another device that uses the 24v supply. __._,_.___ Messages in this topic (1) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls | Members | Calendar Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! [exstreamer] Re: Help with Barix Instreamer/Exstreamer Devices
2007-10-15 22:04:00
Hi Jeff, all information you need you can find in the Forum´s FILES section !! There you will find: - the Barix Live audio recording solutions guide - Barix & Bellcommander application note - The "What is AudioLogger" - the ABCL firmeware (FTP recording works also on the Instreamer !) You can use between two different solutions : A - Instreamer with standard firmware to gether with Audiologger B - Instreamer with ABCL firmware using the FTP recoding application For both solutions you could use the Bellcommander to schedule start/stop commands to Instreamer. With the standard firmware you could also use the Internet Explorer (scheduled from Windows Task manager) to send CGI command, but this would be only a cheap unprofessional solution. Instead of the Instreamer you could use also a Annuncicom. Other customers are doing this already successfully ! [exstreamer] Help with Barix Instreamer/Exstreamer Devices
2007-10-15 21:29:00
I need some technical expertise in how to best use my my Barix devices. I currently have several Instreamer 100 boxes around my campus. they are attached to the media system in the classroom and I access them via an IP and they sound great. What simple hardware would I need to encode the stream to a file and then store on it a network drive? What about automation solutions to record certain classes at the correct start and stop time? Any help or direction to online resources would be very helpful, thanks. __._,_.___ Messages in this topic (1) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls | Members | Calendar ...

[exstreamer] Periodic restarts of extreamer?
2007-10-05 21:37:00
I have a pair of exstreamers that reset themselves every 60 minutes without fail.  They are both running B1.4b2 (070618).  The weird thing is that I have another player, with the same firmware, that does not do this. They all pull a config from the same source. Thoughts? Thanks!
