If you are trying to lose weight then it is essential that you incorporate some muscle building activities into your training. losing weight is about burning calories. It is about burning fat and one way to do that is to build your muscles. Basically the more muscle you develop the more energy you burn, resulting in weight loss success. Strength training routines will help you do this Strength training routines do not have to be a daily grind of lifting weights in the gym. There are many classes or exercise programs you can follow that will help with building your muscles. Most gyms have classes like total body fitness or group power lifting. Fitness For Older Women - 10 Years Younger With Strength Training
2008-03-12 01:46:00
Strength training has a lot of advantages for women, and particularly for women aged 35 to 40 and older. By the age of 40, women generally begin to lose bone density and muscle mass. One study at Tufts University, designed by the author of 'Strong Women Stay Young', Miriam Nelson PH.D, found that instead of losing bone density and muscle mass, the women were 15 to 20 years younger after one year of weight training. They gained bone density, and their strength tests matched women who were in their 30's and 40's.These women didn't diet, but they did end up looking slimmer. Some lost 1 or 2 dress sizes, and they all replaced fat with muscle. Because muscle weighs more than fat, this is the reason they looked slimmer, though the scales may not have changed much. The women in this study were all post menopausal, and some of their ages were in the 50's and 60's. They made some remarkable changes in their lives as they got stronger. One woman described going rollerblading with her ch...

It's Strength-Training Sunday! + That's Entertainment, Folks!
2008-01-28 05:59:00
Did a strength-training session tonight in my makeshift home gym, but before that happened, I did something rather unorthodox for tonight's pre-lifting warm-up:OK, I'm going to reveal something that few of us are probably brave enough to publicly admit, let alone blog about: Yes, I danced around the room all by myself in my own living room. (In case you were wondering, the blinds were, in fact, closed, thank you very much!) Imagine me breaking out into a dance, perhaps in a scene not altogether unlike the one from Risky Business, except with a very different soundtrack (not exactly a big Bob Seger fan!), and also replace the cool sunglasses & white button-down shirt with workout attire. ;-)I just rocked out & let loose! Danced to some great electronic music with a heavy drums & bass -- It had this really pulsating, driving dance beat! It felt great! As I flew around the house with wild abandon, my cats were eying me in a peculiar, wide-eyed way, which made me laugh...

A Guideline to Strength Training For Women
2007-11-15 00:28:00
It is no surprise that many women are afraid of strength training. Some of you might thing that strength training will bulk you up. Others might feel that it does not burn many calories because of the misconception that only cardio is good for weight loss.   There are many benefits to strength training and have no fear, you will not bulk up and look like a body builder. Strength training increases your muscle mass and your muscle mass helps you to burn calories even when you are not exercising. Most of the time when you are just starting out it is advisable to do two sets of eight to twelve reps. On...
