2008-05-09 00:51:00 GM agrees to pay American Axle $200 million to end UAW strike The UAW's strike at American Axle has slowed or idled at least 30 General Motors plants — including the automaker's most profitable truck and SUV plants — and it looks as though the U.S.' largest automaker has had enough. GM announced on Thursday that it has agreed to pay American Axle $200 million to cover its UAW buyouts. In a filing released today, GM said the deal is "predicated upon an expedited resolution to the ongoing strike called by the International UAW against American Axle," according to Automotive News. The UAW strike at American Axle has now lasted about 10 weeks a cost GM at least 15,000 sales. The strike has also forced GM to stop orders on certain full-size trucks and SUVs.

I did update anything since the morning till I reached because I did not find anything worth for posting at least till 12 AM when the news of Mahalla began to come. This was a normal work day for the Egyptians in the capital , I do not know about the universities or the other Governates but in Giza and Cairo , it was a normal. The UAW is fighting proposed wage and benefit cuts proposed by American Axle, as the company aims to make operations competitive with similar businesses. The latest deal would see two of five North American Axle factories shut down, while workers' pay would be reduced from nearly $28 per hour to $17. We had a thunder storm here (fairly rare, I might add) and so I went out, like I did during our last lightning storm, in the cold and wet, to get some lightning photos. The noise of this particular strike nearly deafened me! It struck less than 1km away, so the thunder came almost instantaneously.I took this picture on "B" shutter mode with about a 20-second exposure at F6.4. The lightning you see in the picture is actually the result of two strikes - one huge lightning strike (the large ball of white lightning on the left), and another smaller one almost directly after.Because of the long exposure, and the brightness of the lightning, I had to use the GIMP to adjust the saturation curve for this image to make the lightning bolts visible.
