Strikeforce Does the Right Thing for Local Fighters Miller and Davis
2009-11-12 18:20:00
As most of you know, this past Saturday on CBS Strikeforce put on a great card offering over 11,000 fans at the Sears Center and the 5.46 millions at home, the chance to be part of a great MMA event that was not under the puppet strings of Dana White. To White's dismay, Strikeforce's M-1 Global's CBS broadcast out-rated ABC's regionalized prime-time college football with men 18-34 years old and essentially game the rest of college football and run for their money. Whether you are a hard core fan and watched the under card write ups online as they happened to see how several Midwestern fighters made out, fans at home and at the arena found out how DeRay Davis and...
Strikeforce Using Clever Marketing Tactics for Fedor Fight on Nov. 7 in Chi
2009-11-01 19:39:00
It is rumored that Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers will both appear at the Chicago Bears game against the Cleveland Browns today.  Their presence will be a clever cross-promotional tactic to lure football fans to watch next Saturday's MMA event on CBS.  There has been a fair amount of advertising that has been executed to help compete against other Saturday night programming. To their benefit the UFC does not have a card scheduled for that night (their next is one on November 14th).  Strikeforce and M-1 Global needs a triumph to gain momentum to keep in the black and avoid the perils that  brought down Affliction and other MMA organizations.  ...

Frank Shamrock vs. Phil Baroni Strikeforce + Full Analysis
2008-05-01 09:21:00
One of my favorite fights from last year, Frank Shamrock vs. Phil "The New York Badass" Baroni (video)http://www.youtube.com/v-/e4QekTB6DCo&fmt=18Somethin-g I don't do very often for fight videos here on the blog- a round by round analysis of the fight:Round 1Baroni tried to end it quick, but Shamrock played it smart and avoided getting clipped hard, even showing a little flair with his head movement. Shamrock even nearly ended the fight there in the first with a punch that took Baroni's knees out from under him. Unfortunately for Shamrock, he decides to punch Baroni in the head, which get him stood up, with a point deducted.Baroni keeps at it, and takes Frank down, but takes some damage on the way. I have to say that sadly enough for Baroni, Shamrock actually out punched him from closed guard, which i find just hilarious. After getting the fight back on the feet, Baroni tries to single leg Shamrock, which just ends with Shamrock nearly taking the back and getting some good grou...

Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le - Strikeforce 10by moltisanti87http://www.dailymot-ion.com/video/x4w9i0_frank-sham-rock-vs-cung-le-strikefor_sport-My comments:-I hope your arm gets better Frank.-Cung Le needs to train more actual MMA to hit harder. I love Sanshou and all, but the fact that Le couldn't knock out Shamrock with solid strikes worries me a little. At this point, most UFC middleweights could probably run right over both Le and Shamrock.-Le did a good job tightening up his kicks after Round 1-Shamrock needs to take this more seriously at his age. He can be Mr. Showboat anymore.-Regardless of his inability to knock out Shamrock, Le definitely impressed me.Watch it!-y

Strikeforce: Cung Le vs Frank Shamrock Betting Odds
2008-03-27 17:04:00
This is the most serious opponent Shamrock has seen in since Tito Ortiz in 1999. Strikeforce gave Shamrock a window for his big comeback to MMA in 2006 and he's been handed some pretty easy competition in his three fights back. His one loss in those three fights was due to an illegal knee, but up until that he looked pretty good...lol...not! Baroni was a test of his chin and patience but that's about it. Shamrock has great cardio so pace is not going to be his problem. His problem will be avoiding a mule kicking the shit out of him.Cung Le is new to MMA...kind of. Record wise he's 5-0 and two years into his new career, but previously he fought in San Shou and compiled a 17-0 record with 12 KO's. He also trained with Shamrock in the past and according to Josh ?The Punk? Thompson, Cung "used to throw Frank around like a rag doll, like his little sister." Top that all off with the most impressive arsenal of kicks in MMA and you've got Shamrock in serious danger. Here's how I see i...

Bodog Champ Betting On Himself To Win Strikeforce Tournament - 06 Nov 2007
2007-11-06 21:40:00
Bodog Fight Middleweight Champion, Trevor Prangley, has something to prove at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on Friday, November 16. "I've been telling everyone that I'm one of the best 185-pound fighters in the world, and winning this competition will show people I'm not just talking sh*t." The competition the confident South African is referring to is the four-man, single-elimination middleweight tournament that will headline Strikeforce: Four Men Enter, One Man Survives, presented by Bodog Fight. The winner of the first-ever sanctioned mixed martial arts tournament in the state of California will potentially be awarded the opportunity to challenge Strikeforce World Middleweight Champion, Frank Shamrock. That very well could be Prangley, who trains at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and is sure to be buoyed by the pro-AKA crowd. "Of course, I hope they cheer for me, although I usually only hear the crowd when I walk out," s...

Trevor Prangley Talks Strikeforce Middleweight Tournament - 31 Oct 2007 10:
2007-10-31 23:23:00
By Collin Welsh Trevor Prangley (16-4) will enter Strikeforce's first ever middleweight tournament on a five fight win streak. In his quest to become the best middleweight in the world, the South African fighter will be competing for the crown against Yuki Sasaki, Falaniko Vitale, and Jorge Santiago. Pangley is considered by many to be the heavy favorite, but he does not agree with such a statement. "This is a good tournament, definitely not going to be a walk over...it's up for grabs," says the current Bodog Fight middleweight champ. Sasaki, Vitale, and Santiago are all coming off of submission wins and will be looking to keep their respective win streaks alive. Jorge Santiago was especially impressive in his last bout, earning himself a major win over Jeremy Horn. "My training has been going excellent, I've been training hard to take my cardio to a new level," says Prangley. "I feel that my cardio has been an issue in the past, and that is w...
Strikeforce Updates - 30 Oct 2007 12:27:46pm
2007-10-30 13:27:00
The 9/29 show at the Playboy Mansion drew a crowd of 500 at $1,000 a ticket for a $500,000 gate. The event was considered a huge success. For 2008 they are planning two major shows in San Jose, another show at the Playboy Mansion, and expansion into several new markets including Honolulu and Seattle. The San Jose shows are slated to feature Frank Shamrock v. Renzo Graice in April and Shamrock v. Cung Le later in the year. Both events would be co-promoted with EliteXC and Showtime as pay-per-view events, even though EXC and Strikeforce aren't on the best of terms. The promotion is making a strong play for Bob Sapp, planning to build towards Sapp v. Daniel Pruder in Hawaii where there is no athletic commission to stop the fight due to the weight difference. Outside of the UFC, every other major promotion in the country has interest in Sapp, including EXC who has discussed Sapp v. Butterbean, but the EXC offer is not as lucrative as Strikeforce's offer. The...

2007-10-29 07:41:00
By Keith Mills On November 16th it is UFC vet vs. Pride vet for the vacant Strikeforce Heavyweight title as AKA?s Paul Buentello faces Golden Glory?s Alistair Overeem. In the ADCC News archives are several updates with Paul throughout his career including his time as KOTC Champion and his run in UFC culminating in a title shot against then-champion Andre Arlovski. Since his run in the UFC Paul has gone 3-0 in Strikeforce, most recently a TKO at 0:10 of round 2 in Strikeforce/EliteXC in June. KM: How is training going? PB: Training is going really well. I came out to Albuquerque, New Mexico to get some high altitude training. Right now I?m at Greg Jackson?s camp training with Rashad Evans, Greg Jackson, and Keith Jardine. I have been here one week already and today we ran sprints. We ran five miles at 11,000 feet and then seven flights of stairs at 11,000 feet. It was a long day today. STRIKEFORCE World Title To Be Contested At San Jose, CA Event - 24 Oct 2007
2007-10-24 09:10:00
By Mike Johnson BUENTELLO BATTLES OVEREEM FOR WORLD TITLE October 23, 2007; San Jose, CA?.Heavyweight superstars Paul ?The Headhunter? Buentello (23-9) and Alistair ?The Demolition Man? Overeem (25-11) will battle to become the first Strikeforce World Heavyweight Mixed Martial Arts Champion in history during the star-studded Strikeforce mega-event at San Jose?s HP Pavilion on Friday, November 16th. ?I just gotta come at him and get in his grill,? said the 33-year-old Buentello, who toppled former K-1 North America champion Carter Williams during Strikeforce?s ?Shamrock vs. Baroni? live SHOWTIME PPV card on June 22nd. After a relatively competitive first round, Buentello exploded in the early seconds of the second, sending Williams to the canvas with a pair of right uppercuts. ?It?s really the same strategy as I used with Carter Williams. Close the distance and don?t let him hit me from the outside. Then attack on the inside.? Both seasoned strikers, Buentello and Overeem a...
?Head Hunter' To Face Overeem for Strikeforce Belt - 21 Oct 2007 11:29:45pm
2007-10-22 01:29:00
Veteran Paul Buentello announced that he will face Dutch striker Alistair Overeem for the vacant Strikeforce heavyweight title on Nov. 16 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Buentello, 33, has claimed four consecutive wins since being stopped in the first round by Andrei Arlovski at UFC 55 in Oct. of 2005. With a mixed marital arts career that spans more than a decade, the Amarillo, Texas, native has claimed 16 knockouts while racking up a record of 23-9-0. "Yes, it's going to be another striking war, but that's fine with me," Buentello declared in a video newsletter. "All I got to do is hit him before he hits me." Overeem, 25-11-0, recently suffered a disappointing technical knockout at the hands of Russian Sergei Kharitonov for the K-1 HERO's promotion on Sep. 17. It has been on a rough stretch of late for the veteran, dropping four of his last five bouts. The 27-year-old has had his best success at 205 pounds, but has competed at heavyw...
STRIKEFORCE 4-Man Tournament In California - 20 Oct 2007 01:42:25pm
2007-10-20 15:42:00
Strikeforce announced that its Nov. 16 event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. will feature the state?s first-ever sanctioned mixed martial arts tournament. The tournament is a four-man, single-elimination format in the middleweight (185-pound limit) division. It will be completed over the course of the 10-bout fight card with the winner potentially receiving a shot at current middleweight champion Frank Shamrock. ?We?re very grateful that the athletic commission has given us the opportunity to produce a tournament format fight for our fans,? said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. ?This will be the first step in our efforts to produce more tournaments which, historically, have been a great way to challenge world class athletes and to determine who the best competitor is on any given day.? According to Strikeforce, the first competitor selected for the tournament is 33-year-old Hawaiian Falaniko Vitale. He is coming off of a 3:02 TKO stoppage of Ron Fields at the promotion?s Sept....
Joe Riggs Pulls Out Of Strikeforce 4-Man Tournament - 19 Oct 2007 06:14:29a
2007-10-19 08:14:00
By Loretta Hunt Joe Riggs will not be one of the four contestants to compete in California?s first regulated four-man tournament scheduled for Nov. 16?s Strikeforce ?Four Man Enter, One Man Survives? event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Yahoo! Sports had reported that Riggs and Falaniko Vitale were the first two fighters selected to pull double duty for one night in the cage. Riggs declined the slot, however, and will seek a single fight on the card instead. Riggs (27-9) and Falaniko Vitale (24-7) both turned in dominating first-round victories at Strikeforce?s ?Strikeforce at the Mansion? event on Sept. 29 at the Playboy Mansion, in Beverly Hills, Calif. Riggs stifled fellow heavy hitter Eugene Jackson (15-8-1) with a barrage of merciless punches on that mat. ?It?s a timing thing,? said Riggs? manager Scott Lewis. ?He just fought two weeks ago and he doesn?t want to step into the cage two times in one night. We?re speaking with Scott Coker [Strikeforce?s promoter] to se...

Babalu Signs with Strikeforce
2007-10-01 00:00:00
After being kicked out of the UFC for holding a choke too long against David Heath, Renato Sobral has already signed with another organization, Strikeforce. This is huge for Strikeforce. Babalu adds to a pretty esteamed list of fighters at Strikeforce which includes Frank Shamrock, Phil Baroni, Cung Le, and the undefeated Gilbert Melendez. However, this is horrible for the UFC. I'm still not sure why they let Sobral go. B.J. Penn held a longer choke on Jens Pulver in their most recent fight. I was recently talking to Jens about this, and he said that he didn't think that either B.J. or Renato needed to be punished. I'll let Jens say it:"It doesn?t matter to me, I didn?t see what BJ did as being wrong and I didn?t see what Renato did as being wrong. I was the one who got caught in the rear naked choke.""When you?re in the cage and you?re fighting somebody, especially when you don?t like the person you?re fighting?like truly dislike the person, when you get that hold and you squeeze ...
