Jessica Alba Rides The Subway With Her Baby
2008-09-13 00:40:00
I swear to the gossip gods, in the two years I've been blogging, I've never read some girl-next-door behavior shiz like this!Jessica Alba RODE THE SUBWAY from Union Square to Brooklyn with her baby daughter, Honor Marie. Her bodyguard was there to protect her, but it's still odd and ballsy that she didn't get a limo complete with a police escort to transport her.Jess was reportedly in town looking for a new apartment in Brooklyn. I don't think it's safe for her to try to act all common folk like that, especially with her young daughter, but it's still very impressive. :)

New York subway romance
2008-07-29 16:18:00
internet advertisingCANBERRA (Reuters) - A modern-day love story of a man spotting the girl of his dreams across a New York subway train and tracking her down over the Internet has failed to have a fairytale ending with the relationship over. For Web designer Patrick Moberg, then 21, from Brooklyn, it was love at first sight when he spotted a woman on a Manhattan train last November. But he lost her in the crowd so he set up a website with a sketch to find her ? www.nygirlofmydreams.com.Unbeli-evably in a city of 8 million people, it only took Moberg 48 hours to track down the woman, with his phone ringing non-stop and email box overflowing as usually cynical New Yorkers took sympathy on the subway Romeo and joined his hunt. The mysterious brunette was named as Camille Hayton, from Melbourne, Australia, who was working as an intern at the magazine BlackBook and also lived in Brooklyn. One of her friends spotted the sketched picture on the Web site and recognized her.But after finding e...

Beijing Subway 101
2008-07-24 09:47:00
Leave it to CNReviews to come out with a clearly written post on how to get around Beijing using Beijing's subway. The post is entitled, "Beijing Subway Guide: of Tickets and Faregates," and it does an excellent job setting out the dos and don'ts. If I might add one "do" of my own: do use the subway system as it is oftentimes the fastest way to get around: I truly cannot think of another city where I have consistently had to wait so long for a taxi as Beijing.
Subway Continues to Expand
2008-07-23 00:23:00
Advertising Age reports that while Starbucks is closing stores and McDonald’s is focusing its expansion efforts abroad, Subway, by far the largest fast-food chain, with 22,000 U.S. locations, is adding 800 this year. Don Fertman, director-development for the sandwich shops, said there’s now about one Subway for every 13,800 people in the U.S., although some ...
Homeschoolers Invited to Write for Subway
2008-07-11 04:01:00
Y ou may recall about six weeks ago the buzz among homeschoolers was the lack of acceptance by Subway to allow homeschoolers to particiate with writing contest.  I wrote briefly on it here and yesterday I received a comment that Subway has revised this: I wanted to let everyone know that Subway has revamped their Every Sandwich Tells a Story contest, reintroducing it as a Summer Special, running through August 31. They even took out a banner ad with Homeschooling Today magazine. For all those who clamored about Subway excluding homeschoolers, now’s the time to show them that we will indeed participate when they include us. The registration form I saw asks for the Child’s School Name, so homeschoolers should make sure they enter something like Smith Family Homeschool, rather than Smith Academy. Blessings, Jim Bob I also visited the site, and found that it is geared for children ages P-K through 6th grade for those within the USA.    You can read all the details of the cont...

Nagoya Tram and Subway Museum
2008-06-16 04:13:00
I visited the Nagoya Tram and Subway Museum earlier in the week. Its near Akaike subway station on the Tsuramai Line.Theres a wall map at the station. The museum is basically a block behind the station.Turn right as you leave Exit 2.Walk straight down the hill.At the end of the street turn right and head towards the traffic lights and Route 153.At the intersection cross the road and turn right. You should be heading up the hill on Route 153.Theres a big sign indicating the museum over the traffic lanes. There are four old tram and subway cars on display in the Museum. In the middle of the display hall there are a number of computer and interactive displays which proved popular with the noisy throngs of kids present.Another drawcard was the large model railway based loosely on Nagoya. There were model buildings of JR Central Towers and Nagoya TV Tower around which model shinkansen trains circled endlessly. With their noses and fingers pressed firmly against the display glass an employee wa...

Breaking Booze: No More Drinking On Subway
2008-06-04 20:00:00
London officials decided recently that it was no longer legal to drink alcohol while riding the city’s subway system because of the resulting “antisocial behavior” and “minor crime”. I guess my first question would be, why was this OK in the first place? But since it was OK, and then later banned, I ...

Subway Protesters: Please call off the dogs
2008-05-30 06:43:00
Apparently, emotions run high over sandwich shops and their contests. After Subway issued their apology, I thought the matter would be dropped. But I guess the apology wasn’t quite good enough. In my email box sits a message, instructing me to cut, paste and edit it for use with my local Subway ...
Subway & Schoolastic Blocks Out Homeschoolers
2008-05-30 06:01:00
(I wrote this post earlier in the week, saving it to post today. I received several e-mails today regarding the apology Subway has given to HSLDA. You can read it here.) I f you homeschool, you probably have read numerous times about the writing contest Subway & Schoolastic are having.  This is the disclaimer that removes homeschoolers: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted. (emphasis added)  I may not be as irrate as some blogs and e-mails that I have received regarding it.  It certainly is a bummer that homeschoolers are specifically excluded.  However, it may be a lack of knowledge on their side.  The “grand prize” is $5,000 value of sports equipment.  Subway and Schoolastic may not realize what a large community homeschooling is...
The Great Subway Contest Crisis of 2008
2008-05-28 08:30:00
While most Americans were enjoying barbecues and the Hanley family was watching 70 mph winds blow a stream of water up the hill in front of our house, homeschoolers were busy organizing a boycott against Subway and possibly even Scholastic. My email box had more messages related to the boycott than spam, and the ...

A-Rod will miss Subway Series
2008-05-13 15:11:00
The New York Yankees had hoped to get Alex Rodriguez back for this weekend's Subway Series showdown against the New York Mets, but Monday's MRI on the third baseman's strained right quad didn't produce the type of results the team was hoping for. With the Mets series in effect a no-go, the question now becomes this: When will the Bombers have the three-time MVP back in the lineup? Nobody knows for sure, but the Yankees hope to have a clearer picture later today. Dr. Allen Miller, the team's Tampa-based orthopedist who read Rodriguez's MRI results Monday, will compare them to the original films after they arrive from New York. "It's still not where it needs to be," Joe Girardi said. "It just doesn't show it completely healed. I don't see him playing this week."
Cosmetics on Tokyo Subway
2008-05-12 18:23:00
?????I recently came across this sign (below) on the Tokyo subway urging women not to apply their make up on the trains.Women (I have yet to see a man) applying their cosmetics on trains is a common sight in railway carriages up and down the country. It really does prove how smooth the ride is.The Japanese cosmetics market is huge - the world's second largest after the US - with annual sales well over US$4 billion. The giants of the Japanese cosmetics industry, Kanebo, Shiseido and Kose are also engaged in a massive expansion drive in the rest of Asia, especially in China and Thailand.Yahoo Japan Auction ServiceBook a hotel in Japan with BookingsTokyo Serviced ApartmentsBudget accommodation in JapanHappi CoatsJapanese For Busy PeopleTagsJapanese cosmetics Tokyo subway

"Things I Love" Thursdays - Audible Subway Announcements
2008-04-25 04:48:00
Seventy percent of the time, on most subway lines, announcements by conductors are completely inaudible. Twenty-two percent of the time, they're clear and concise or merely decipherable. Five percent of the time, they're bold-faced lies (e.g. "If you cannot fit on this train, there is another one directly behind this one."). And the other 3% of the time, they are surprisingly amusing.*On a downtown no. 1 train for a blogger girls brunch two Sundays ago, the recalled transcript of the best subway conductor in New York City:"I welcome all my weekend customers on my train. But for all of you weekenders who don't take the train during the week, there are rules to follow. First, be advised that this is a train. It consists of separate cars all connected to each other and going to the same place at the same time. There are three doors per car, 10 cars per train, and 30 doors total. Please use all available doors to enter and exit the train."*Percentages are approximate and based solely...

Subway Crush Sadness
2008-04-22 12:44:00
What do you get when you whittle Craigslist down to the Missed Connections and then accept only instances that occurred on the subways of the nation?   SubwayCrush, that's what.   I first read about the site on Average Dudes and was instantly drooling and lusting for the potential embarrassment. We all know that this type of service only really serves to highlight the desperate loneliness of the world's shy subway nerds.   As Average Dudes put it... Subway Crush is a website that revolves around a simple concept: you commute on a train/subway, you see a girl who tickles your fancy but you don’t have the cajones to say anything to her, you log on to Subway Crush and release your innermost thoughts for everyone to see….except the girl from the train, of course. She’s never heard of Subway Crush and she has a boyfriend. Here's a few of my favorites with my own added pictures to better paint the scene for you...   You smelled but thats OK Yo...
