Don’t be fooled by the implication that this is a smutfest. Instead, SWINGTOWN is an examination of evolving — and devolving — friendships, and it’s hard to decide what’s more unexpected: the show’s unexpected but undeniable charm, or its ability to examine changing social and sexual mores in a non-judgemental light. I have to think that if this series wound up anywhere but on CBS, it would have wound up trading sentiment for sleaziness, and that would have been a real shame. The critics were fairly brutal where SWINGTOWN is concerned, and yet I found it — and no one is more surprised than I to have this be the first word which comes to mind — charming. Every moment seemed to offer a new flashback to an era I kinda sorta vaguely remember (having been a pre-teen in 1976). People smoking on planes, the funky fashions, references to The Omen and oh, that glorious, wonderful parade of cheesy songs! Sure, I would have liked a more original story, but vampires are an easy sell. (Um, except where CBS’ MOONLIGHT was concerned. What the heck went wrong there?) I thought this offering was a heck of a lot better than 80 percent of what Showtime’s MASTERS OF HORROR offered up in its lackluster second season. I’ll admit that the scenes for next week’s episode — featuring Eric Roberts as a detective literally haunted by the sins of his past — didn’t do much for me, but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a shot. 2008-05-15 15:41:00 When the 5 peso for 15 minutes surfing promo of Globe Telecoms was launched last month, I thought I would be able to read my emails. However, when I tried to connect to the link for Gmail, an error prompted in my phone’s screen. Then I read the FAQs of Gmail and was instructed to ask the network provider if it allows secure SSL traffic. It took a month before the customer service gave me a feedback. It said “our network does not allow secure SSL traffic for prepaid accounts” I was totally disappointed with the reply. How could they advertise so much and yet they have put limitations and DID NOT INFORM prepaid subscribers of such. I also tried using my phone as a modem and true enough, I could not connect to Gmail of Yahoo mail. Their service really was a disservice. Subscribers were being charged for every connection whether successful or not.
