My Surreal Life: I Had Lunch With Jessica Alba Today
2008-04-04 08:59:00 I spent five hours at Kira's middle school today. It was their Open House, and for two hours before classroom visits they had a World's Fair with food booths, games, jugglers and live music. I had volunteered to set up and work the PTA bake sale, so there I was in our makeshift booth made out of lunch benches, with my frosting-smeared shirt and plastic gloves hustling brownies and cupcakes for

The Surreal Life, Country Edition - Or, how I learned to give up Lattes and
2008-02-01 17:21:00 Last night I dropped in at our local grocery to grab a few groceries, and was almost run over by a chain smoking, wig wearing Ruth Gordon clone driving a mini van. This isn’t as unusual as it would seem, since the average age in my tiny little town seems to be about 101. Seniors who can barely see over the steering wheel of their cadillacs regularly veer into traffic without signaling (or even noticing other drivers), and parking spaces are considered to be suggestions more than hard and fast rules. The busiest joint in Durham is the Legion (that’s Canada’s version of a VFW hall), and the crossing guard by the local school seems to escort more old guys in rascal scooters across the road than she does school children. Drive through Durham, and your initial impression is of a typical small town in rural Ontario - not a lot of money, slightly down at the heels, and with a rapidly aging population. You need to look closer to see the changes that are taking place here....

A surreal life
2007-12-03 12:01:00 Our trip to Africa is an opportunity to see a different part of the world, but it is definitely a weird perspective that we get in many ways. We are living on UCC campus in the lecturers village. Our chalets are on the edge of a sprawling residential area where comfortably sized and well-spaced bungalows ...
The Surreal Life
2007-08-29 22:42:00 We explore the world and learn information through our senses; this, along with our brain's processing of this information, forms the basis for how we perceive the world. Living in the world day after day, we learn to accept certain processes, occurrences, and events as commonplace. Through this repetition, we learn what is real in the world.Exploration of the dreamworld and other altered states of consciousness provide a unique perspective on this perception of reality, though. This is not to say that the world is unreal, but rather that our perception of the world is strictly limited by our sensory input devices. The dreamworld is just as real to our minds as waking life, since dreams contain the same type of visual, auditory, and tactile sensations to our minds.Dream experiences are generally considered "less real" than waking experiences, perhaps because in waking life others can corroborate and share our experiences, thus confirming the reality. Yet it is difficult to argue fo...

Surreal Life Finale: Ron Jeremy Had a Bad Day
2007-03-26 08:30:00 Ron Jeremy Had a Bad DayIt went bad for Ron all around when the Surreal Life Fame Games reached its conclusion tonight. It started with a challenge for the four remaining contestants to create a 30 second commercial for the show's sponsor, Golden Palace.net. While Rob, aka Vanilla Ice, did an excellent job with rave reviews from the focus group, it was Tracy Bingham who won it. Ron Jeremy and Peppa were forced to listen in to the focus group insult them which couldn't have done much for the confidence. The three losers were told they would decide via secret voting who would be the one to leave the Surreal House next and return back to reality. Ron was upset at the prospect of stabbing one of his comrades in the back and decided he'd promise both Peppa and Rob (even on his mother's grave) to vote for the other but would actually vote for himself forcing a three way tie. However, at voting time he found he had no choice but to choose between Rob and Peppa after all. He quickly deci...
Dear Vanilla Ice on the Surreal Life,
2007-03-21 19:13:00 I was really pulling for you in the beginning. On your season of the Surreal Life, it touched me to watch you come to terms with who you are and forgive yourself for being Vanilla Ice. I thought you really let go of the hate.Starting out this season you appeared to be the voice of reason in the house and you were focused, winning challenges effortlessly. When they offered you a part in a movie I was glad for you.But now, it seems you are back to your old ways and tantrums. You misinterpret what is said to you (God, did I ever feel Peppa's frustration) and you throw things like a child. It's really stupid on your part. I mean, you B list celebs are there for exposure, who's going to want to work with a guy who can have a fit at the drop of a hat?I'm 31 years old and I was in junior high when you released Ice Ice Baby so you are definitely older than me. Watching someone over 30 throwing tantrums and destroying sets over virtually nothing is just plain embarrassing. I guess what I...
Austin Green saved from 'Surreal Life' and 'Dancing with the Stars' fate?
2007-02-23 23:42:01 Brian Austin Green will reportedly star in a new pilot from "Will & Grace" creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, in which the former "90210" star will play a gay man. Hmm...a white thirtysomething gay man leading a sitcom. Nice to see you're branching out, KoMut! Additionally, Jessica Capshaw (who appeared and then just sort of disappeared on this season "The L Word") and another actress, Vanessa Lengies, are slated to co-star in the untitled CBS project. Here's just hoping that neither plays a pill-popping booze hound named Sharon Falker! Brian Austin Green gay for CBS sitcom [Reuters]
