Bob Barr Urges Congress: No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendm
2008-06-21 12:03:00
Bob Barr Urges Congress: No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendment Protections June 19, 2008 6:33 pm EST Atlanta , GA -- “In asserting his power to conduct warrantless searches of Americans, President George W. Bush has expressed his clear contempt for the Fourth Amendment.  So has Sen. John McCain, despite his reputation as a supposed maverick,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  Now the Democratic-led Congress is preparing to approve a so-called compromise that gives the Bush administration almost everything it wants in order to expand dramatically the power of the federal government to surveil American citizens without court orders.  “ America desperately needs leaders who will stand up for the Bill of Rights,” observes Barr, “not those who flaunt its vital and time-honored protections.” The president already has the power to conduct surveillance of foreign terrorists.  The 30-year old Foreign Intelligence ...

This week Congress moved forward on two important issues affecting the national security of our country.Yesterday the House passed a responsible war funding bill that will provide vital resources to our men and women on the front lines in the war on terror. This legislation gives our troops the funds they need to prevail without tying the hands of our commanders in the field or imposing artificial timetables for withdrawal. The bill also supports our military families by passing an expansion of the GI Bill that ...

In that regard, it can be used by anyone working in an underwater environment such as diving teams or working as lifeguards on a beach. It can be used for both serious situations such a rescue or underwater sports to marvel at the beautiful species that roam the waters. Copyright © 2008 Spy Review. Government May Have Massive Surveillance Program for Use in National Emerge
2008-05-21 19:39:00
AlterNet ?Main Core,? a program that authorizes ?computer searches through massive [unspecified] electronic databases? in order to discover ?potential threats? in the event of a ?national emergency?: According to a senior government official??There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ?enemies of the state? almost instantaneously.? ? One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention. These so-called ?Continuity of Governance? plans, Radar notes, ?are shrouded in extreme secrecy, effectively unregulated by Congress or the courts.? ?Main Core is the table of contents for all th...

CCTV Has Not Cut Crime

Source: Times Online Billions of pounds spent on Britain?s 4.2 million closed-circuit television cameras has not had a significant impact on crime, according to the senior police officer piloting a new database. Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville said it was a ?fiasco? that only 3 per cent of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV. Mr Neville, who heads the Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office (Viido) unit, told the Security Document World Conference that the use of CCTV images as evidence in court has been very poor. read more
Police At Your Door Scenario
2008-05-10 13:48:00
Source: Flex Your Rights In any given police visit to your home, with a few notable exceptions, the below rules will help protect your civil rights and improve your chances of leaving safely?so you don't have to be a legal expert to do the right thing. 1) Keep Your Private Items Out of View This is common sense: Always keep any private items that you don't want others to see out of sight. Legally speaking, police do not need a search warrant in order to confiscate any illegal items that are in plain view. Bear in mind that, without a search warrant, police cannot enter you home under any circumstances. Still, if they see something suspicious in the proximity of your house, they could arrive with a warrant quickly and unexpectedly. 2) Do Not Let Them Enter Exit the house and close the door behind you before greeting the officer. Regardless of what the officer says, there is no reason they need to be allowed into your home. Permitting an officer to enter your home is the equi...

The new touch screen interface will also change how we interact with those systems, creating all new ways to use technology. As an example, traditional surveillance systems use a joystick or mouse to control camera positioning. With the iPhone, the user has the potential of a much more intuitive interface to drag the camera around and zoom in on things by pinching the picture.Read MoreThis blog will tell you how to Unlock Jailbreak Activate and Hack your iPhone and iTouch firmware for FREE

Army Insect Robots (Coming Soon)
2008-05-09 07:40:00
Source: The Register Global military contractor BAE Systems has announced that it will lead a large alliance of American academics in building an army of miniature robots to aid the US military. The effort, known as Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology (MAST), will receive $38m of US Army funding. ?Robotic platforms extend the warfighter's senses and reach, providing operational capabilities that would otherwise be costly, impossible, or deadly to achieve,? said Dr. Joseph Mait, MAST supremo at the US Army Research Lab. The horde of robots scraped the pork barrel clean The idea is that a variety of crawling or flying mini-droids will be produced, able to go into situations where human troops might fear to tread - caves, bunkers, mountains, hostile urban areas etc. The robo-bug army would then spy out targets and intel for human commanders to act upon. Under MAST various enabling technologies will be advanced: "small-scale aeromechanics and ambulation; propulsio...

Border Agents Can Search Laptops Without Cause
2008-04-30 08:01:00
Source: Wired Federal agents at the border do not need any reason to search through travelers' laptops, cell phonesor digital cameras for evidence of crimes, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, extending the government's power to look through belongings like suitcases at the border to electronics. Theunanimous three-judgedecision reverses a lower court finding that digital devices were "an extension of our own memory" and thus too personal to allow the government to search them without cause.Instead, the earlierruling said,Customs agents would need some reasonable and articulable suspicion a crime had occurred in order to search a traveler's laptop. On appeal, the government argued that was too high a standard, infringingupon its right to keep the country safe and enforce laws. Civil rights groups, joined by business traveler groups, weighed in, defending the lower court ruling. The 9thU.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the government, finding th...
Airport Electronics Searches Truly Troubling
2008-04-30 06:53:00
Source: Yahoo Tech A series of events at international airport security checkpoints -- and not just the all-gadgets-out-of-bags issue that Ben reported last week -- are troubling privacy and civil liberties advocates. In the last few months, travelers have found their cell phones and laptops seized by officials, at least temporarily. In at least one case, an engineer was asked to turn on the PC, enter his password, and allow agents to copy a record of all the web sites he had visited on the machine. The laptop was then taken away from him altogether. The Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Asian Law Caucus filed a lawsuit last week to demand that the government disclose border search policies regarding electronic devices. At least two dozen incidents have now been logged, 15 of which involved officers searching records of cell phone calls, files on laptops, and even the contents of MP3 players. Almost all involve "travelers of Muslim, Middle Eastern or South Asian b...

HOWTO Kill an RFID Chip
2008-04-28 06:32:00
Source: BoingBoing The easiest way to kill an RFID, and be sure that it is dead, is to throw it in the microwave for 5 seconds. Doing this will literally melt the chip and antenna making it impossible for the chip to ever be read again. Unfortunately this method has a certain fire risk associated with it. Killing an RFID chip this way will also leave visible evidence that it has been tampered with, making it an unsuitable method for killing the RFID tag in passports. Doing this to a credit card will probably also screw with the magnetic strip on the back making it un-swipeable. The second, slightly more convert and less damaging, way to kill an RFID tag is by piercing the chip with a knife or other sharp object. This can only be done if you know exactly where the chip is located within the tag. This method also leaves visible evidence of intentional damage done to the chip, so it is unsuitable for passports. The third method is cutting the antenna very close to the chip. By doi...

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)Out of Sight, Out of Mind

In February, The House of Representatives failed to follow the Senates lead and vote to pass FISA legislation. Instead, they chose to allow this valuable intelligence collection tool to expire. In so doing, they made the intelligence collection capability of U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies more difficult and time consuming. In this context, time is the enemy of the government and the ally of terrorists. However you assess this situation, it is an impediment to national security. Terrorists...(read more)

Home Depot Now Stocks In-Store The Largest Collection Of Surveillance Camer
2008-04-16 06:44:00
Rating: 0 Posted By: LilPimpster Views: 13 Replies: 0 I was shocked to see the upgraded collection of nearly a dozen different surveillance cameras at Home Depot in their electronics section. They have basic run of mill wired and wireless cameras all the way up to complete systems with hard drives. Sure you can buy surveillance cameras online but I like the option of having a local dealer that will return the camera no questions asked for up to 90 days. When these cameras go on clearance that is when the fun will begin. Now for the fun if you read all this. My Home Depot had their older color wireless cameras on sale for $37, regularly $99. It's a decent camera but remember wireless computer networks and wireless 2.4GHz phones cause interference with the video feed. I had to ditch my 2.4GHz phone and get a 6.0 DECT or whatever they're called. Also, I strongly recommend that you use a program called i-Catcher to monitor your cameras. I have used literally dozens of comme...
CCTVMobile: Video Surveillance Directly to Your Mobile Phone
2008-04-14 01:02:00
Video surveillance systems such as Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) can be a powerful resource to have at your disposal. The ability to fully monitor and record a designated area through a series of cameras and a control system can provide you with a significant amount of flexibility. That is of course, if you are able to get in front of the monitoring unit to view what's happening live or have the time spend viewing the recordings that your CCTV has made. More advanced CCTV systems allow the user to either log in through their computer and view the live video or recordings. While this is definitely an improvement, accessing a WiFi point or using a mobile network to connect with your laptop is not exactly the most discrete option available. Plus, you'll still have to dedicate the same amount of time to monitoring it or reviewing the video. Copyright © 2008 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Surveillance: Local Authorities in UK Spying on Residents
2008-04-12 22:53:00
It seems having CCTV cameras popping up on every street corner is not enough, now councils are being granted permission to spy on people at the individual level. They are being given permission, upon approval, to spy on residents who they believe are causing them problems. The local authorities involved are taking advantage of legislation that allows, at least in some cases, for individuals and households to be monitored over what seems pretty trivial issues such as whether dog owners are picking up waste. They are using a variety of techniques such as spy cameras and binoculars, depending on the situation. Copyright © 2008 Spy Review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. The Emerging Surveillance State, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-07 07:00:00
Last month, the House amended the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to expand the government?s ability to monitor our private communications. This measure, if it becomes law, will result in more warrantless government surveillance of innocent American citizens. Though some opponents claimed that the only controversial part of this legislation was its grant of immunity to telecommunications companies, there is much more to be wary of in the bill. In the House version, Title II, Section 801, extends immunity from prosecution of civil legal action to people and companies including any provider of an electronic communication service, any provider of a remote computing service, ?any other communication service provider who has access to wire or electronic communications,? any ?parent, subsidiary, affiliate, successor, or assignee? of such company, any ?officer, employee, or agent? of any such company, and any ?landlord, custodian, or other person who may be authorized or ...
