2012-02-01 09:32:00 Apple iPad dominated the buzz about tablets on social media in India, according to a survey conducted by NMIncite, a Nielsen McKinsey company. iPad managed to garner more share in online conversations ahead of Android tablets, reports Times Of India. iPad had 55% buzz online, while Android tablets managed to capture 40% share. The survey tracked all online mediums from India for second half of the year 2011. Samsung Galaxy Tab was the highest buzz-getter in Android tablets, while Motorola Xoom, Reliance Tab and ultra-cost Aakash also featured on the list. “Even though Apple has not made a big push to promote and sell the iPad in India, it has already generated tremendous buzz online,” said Farshad Family, managing director, Nielsen Media- India. The survey also studied the category of smartphones. Android was the clear leader in this category. Android-based smartphones managed to garner 41% buzz, compared to iPhone’s 27% and BlackBerry’s 14%. But, this was a...

Survey suggests family history of psychiatric disorders shapes intellectual
2012-01-27 08:18:00 A hallmark of the individual is the cultivation of personal interests, but for some people, their intellectual pursuits might actually be genetically predetermined. Survey results published by Princeton University researchers in the journal PLoS ONE suggest that a family history of psychiatric conditions such as autism and depression could influence the subjects a person finds engaging. Although preliminary, the findings provide a new look at the oft-studied link between psychiatric conditions and aptitude in the arts or sciences. While previous studies have explored this link by focusing on highly creative individuals or a person?s occupation, the Princeton research indicates that the influence of familial neuropsychiatric traits on personal interests is apparently independent of a person?s talent or career path, and could help form a person?s basic preferences and personality. Princeton researchers surveyed nearly 1,100 students from the University?s Class of 2014 early in the...

Survey Says?
2011-11-26 20:11:00 Periodic ennui and occasional cynicism about the state of the ?Art World? overtakes me now and again, especially when Real World crises and EU ultimatums render our quaint preoccupation with simulacra, irony and context negligible. Moreover, the range of disparity in ?our? World reeks as much of artifice and chicanery as the shenanigans down on Wall Street. It goes without saying as well, that the Occupy movement, though deflated and adrift, clearly without well-defined ?demands,? still has a core sense of moral certitude and social consciousness, desires and goals perhaps all but forgotten among the denizens of said ?Art World.? $61 million dollars for a Clyfford Still? $21 million for a Gerhard Richter abstract? How do we justify such auction prices, clearly the machinations of that ?1%? that control all things, and that the young, old and intransigent Bohos protest against down at Zuccotti Park. With such rambling thoughts as backdrop, I took in a couple of major New York ?sur...

Indian Professionals Are Happy With Their Jobs, Reveals A Survey Conducted
2011-11-22 07:04:00 LinkedIn is the perfect place to conduct work-related surveys! They are the biggest professional network in the world with some 135 million members worldwide and they recently opened a R&D section in Bangalore. They have done a survey of 12000 professionals worldwide and arrived at a conclusion that 63 % of the people are very satisfied with their current jobs. With economic trouble brewing in many countries, you really cannot predict what will happen in the next few years. This unpredictability is making people find solace in the fact that they have job in the first place. That is simple psychology. Nicole Williams, LinkedIn’s Connection Director concurs with me on this point. She says, “A tough economy can make professionals appreciate facets of their job they might otherwise overlook when business is booming”. Professionals are currently being optimistic about the fact that if they work hard enough they will become invaluable assets to the company. Some 67% of Indian ...

Samsung Inches Dangerously Close To Nokia In The Mobile Indian Survey
2011-11-10 13:29:00 The Mobile Indian comes out with a monthly list of the top mobile phones in the country based on the searches that people make on the site. The results are very interesting and give a lot of insights into the mobile industry in India. For starters, Nokia has topped this list for the sixth time in a row due to its solid and affordable new phones from the C series. The Nokia C5-03 has topped the list and is thus the most searched for phone on the website. This phone has occupied the top spot since the last four months. Nokia’s strategy of making feature phones and smartphones affordable with its C series has worked out in its favor but Samsung is not far behind. Out of the 25 top phones selected, 9 are Samsung phones. Compare this with Nokia which 10 phones on the top and you will realize how cutthroat the competition is. Samsung with its mix of Android and Bada based phones and added services has been making waves in the Indian mobile scene. Sreekant Khandekar, director, The...

Social Networking Sites Lowering Productivity, Says A New Survey
2011-10-12 14:15:00 Facebook, Orkut, Twitter, MySpace & many others have long been part of our lives. However a new survey conducted by Ponemon Institute has revealed a rather disturbing “fact”: Low employee productivity and reduced information technology (IT) bandwidth are the biggest reasons for the rise in the use of social media at work. The “Survey” comprising of only IT & IT security practitioners across 12 countries including US, UK, France, Germany, India and Brazil “confirmed” in large majority of 90% that use of social media at work hits the productivity of employees, while 73% said it resulted in lowering the available IT bandwidth. The reasons supporting these allegations were lack of IT policies, especially for Social Networking Sites. About 39% of organizations surveyed, did not have a policy that informed employees clearly about the acceptable use of social media at workplace and in the ones that did, only 49% respondents said the policy was actually enforced. There Are 851.7 Million Mobile Phones In India, Reveals a Survey
2011-08-10 11:08:00 Every day we read and hear from various sources on how India has a large base of mobile phone users. Well, the fact is proven now as according to a recent official data released on Monday, India with 1.2 billion people, now has 851.7 million mobile phone subscribers, with 11.41 million connections added in June itself. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the wireless user base grew 1.36 percent, from 840.28 million in May. The data revealed that the broadband subscriber base grew 1.64 percent from 12.12 million in May to 12.32 million in June 2011. Therefore the total number of telephone subscriber base touched 885.99 million, registering a substantial growth of 1.29 percent. “However, of the total 851.70 million wireless subscribers in March, only 594.77 million were active subscribers on the date of peak visitor location register (VLR). VLR is an impermanent database of the subscribers who have roamed into the particular area which it serves. Each bas...

Social Networking More Important To Indians Than Money: Survey
2011-06-13 13:59:00 You read that right, nearly 75% of Indians are more concerned about their social networking account getting hacked as opposed to their personal information getting stolen or their credit card being misused. A survey conducted by Microsoft India on their Windows And Me Facebook page with over 2,07,000 fans revealed this information. The survey was aimed at understanding the online security needs of Indian consumers. Other findings of the survey were one fourth of Indians had been a victim of cyber crime over 90 per cent Indians realize the importance of Anti-viruses 62 percent of Indians feel that their job is done once they install an anti-virus on their PC The very low figure of just 5% of Indians being worried about their credit card info being stolen indicates that even though ecommerce sites are flooding the Indian internet market, very few Indians actually use their credit cards online. What would you be more concerned valuable to you, your social networking account, you...

Vaughan slips in Best Places to Live Survey
2011-04-02 15:04:00 MoneySense Magazine has once again released its “Best Places to Live” survey for 2011. The survey measures 180 cities (up from 179 last year). To come up with the ranking, information is gathered on Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomeration areas that had a population of 10,000 or greater (and for which the required data was available). The following is a comparative for the City of Vaughan for 2011 and 2010. As you can see, Vaughan dropped 13 spots.Keep in mind that this survey, as with any, are subject to subjective methodologies (see below for detailed description). Certainly, the fact that Vaughan was given credit for a Hospital and a College in and of itself raises questions. Nonetheless, it’s a often quoted survey in the press and one that I thought might be of interest…just take it with a grain of salt.A few categories where Vaughan did well was in Average Household and Discretionary Income Measures. Survey: What do you think about seating on new Series 5000 rail cars?
2011-02-22 14:15:00 Today I reprinted the letter that a regular Tattler reader wrote to the CTA, pleading that they change the seating arrangement on the Series 5000 rail cars.Photo by Ben MeyersonWhy? Because he's fat and can't comfortably sit down in the seats. And I agree with him. The CTA should change the seating configuration. Right now, nearly all the seats are place "longitudinally" along the windows, with riders facing each other across a wider aisle. The wider aisle will allow more people to board, and make it easier for people enter and exit the train.I get that, and I support that seating concept. What I don't like is that the CTA is using the same molded plastic seats we currently have on...

2011-01-05 15:00:00 A survey conducted by Accenture suggests that 2011 will be a good year for 3DTVs and Tablets. It spanned 8000 consumers across 8 countries – Brazil, China, India, Russia, France, Germany, Japan and the U.S for 19 consumer technologies. Among other things it also suggested that there would be decline in the purchase of Computers and Mobile Phones (smartphones were categorized separately). Before I come to the India specific part lets take a general look at the survey. Purchase rates for PCs and feature phones will drop by 39% and 56% respectively. It also revealed that several simple tasks were being performed on devices like tablets instead of PCs. In BRIC countries where the sample was said representative of the urban and semi-urban populations were found to have a greater appetite for consumer technology compared to the other 4 more mature markets – where 40% said they would not buy products this year. Popular Articles Do Not Bring In Ad Clicks, Revenue – Survey
2010-10-19 06:40:00 Digital advertising is undoubtedly the future of advertising. Google recently made some predictions in the field in the years to come. Google itself has online advertising to thank for the tremendous success it saw in Q3 this year, one of its best quarters. Advertising is all about ad placement, and you would think it makes sense for an advertiser to place an ad next to a popular article like Katy Perry’s wedding in India, or Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra breakup. However, a recent survey has proved that popular articles are not necessarily best for revenue but ads relevant to the article are. The survey The survey conducted by Perfect Market took into account revenue generated from 15 million articles in over 21 news website. The conclusion was that low mortgage ads next to an article on the mortgage rates in today’s times, or employment ads next to articles on increasing unemployment are most likely to generate revenue rather than putting ads with no relevance nex...

Those figures listed above summarize the view of Illinois home sellers and real estate agents, according to the 2010 second quarter home prices survey from HomeGain. It's not surprising that homeowners aren't quite as pessimistic about the value of their homes. It's called wishful thinking; homeowners understand that their neighbors' home values have fallen. Global Mobile Survey Conducted By Initiative: The Age of Mobile Phones?
2010-06-23 11:15:00 As global technology advances at a frenetic pace and analysts, techies and businessmen take pains to fathom what the future might have in store for us, it is not too difficult to wonder if the next era will belong to mobile phones. Mobile phones are already ubiquitous devices and the statistics in the report reveal that 49% percent of smartphone users across the world use their phones to handle data which is more than voice calls (37%). Why You Blog - Survey
2009-10-19 16:42:00 The blogging phenomenon has combined three major activities - communicating, sharing and social networking - on the internet. Why do you blog? I asked bloggers this question.
