Akasaka Sushi
2011-01-01 08:30:00
Akasaka Sushi is located at 2650 Telegraph Avenue (across from Andronico's). The phone number is 510-841-0444.This Japanese restaurant location has in interesting history. Over the last several years, this former I-HOP has been several different restaurants. It makes me wonder if the Feng Shui of this location is bad for a restaurant business. And as I have never eaten at this restaurant in it's current incarnation, the best thing I can say about it is that there is plentiful parking.Check out the Akasaka website for more info. It has lots of great pictures of the food they serve.

Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA
2009-08-01 10:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the midst of running a million errands today, I stopped for a quick lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City. It is located in the mall at the corner of Venice and Overland. You cannot see it from the street however. It is well hidden in a passage way between the Starbucks and Best Buy (generally speaking). I walked in to ask if they had lunch specials, they showed me some combinations that looked good and my mind was made up.Rate and Review : Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA

Adventures in Toronto: Sushi Island
2009-05-24 14:23:00
One late evening, we ventured over to the Little Italy area of Toronto. We were in the mood for sushi and was looking for Sushi Island, located at 571 College St. It was pretty late in the evening and they had stopped offering their All you can eat special (which starts from about $14). Therefore, we were only able to order from their regular menu. Here are some highlights.I think this was a pity salad. This is probably the tiniest salad I've ever seen.Sushi boat platter with 36 piecesDowntown roll (Eel, tobiko, cucumber, and cream cheese)Brown rice sushi (Brown rice with seaweed bits and black sesame seeds)Sushi Island was a pretty good place. The sushi was alright. They were probably close to closing their kitchen when we arrived. That explains the pity salads they offered us, since we were not expecting complimentary salads with our sushi plates. Brown rice sushi is always a neat thing to try. The atmosphere was kind of nice as well. They had these folding panel doors, which gav...

Forever Geisha Sushi - Valencia, CA
2009-02-12 01:33:00
Forever Geisha Sushi in Valencia, California. We went here because they were having a sushi sale. So almost all the sushi was 50% off. I know, I've never heard of a sushi sale. They're probably still doing the sale, if you wanna try it out. We got our sushi to go.The food quality and taste was below average. Spicy tuna looked so weird, like mixed with something else. That was so gross. Even though these were 50% off, it's still not worth the money. Sushi here sucks.Inari $2.50 (reg price $4.50), cucumber roll $3.25 (reg price $5.95)Spicy tuna roll $3.25 (reg price $5.95)Why does this tuna roll have colors of beige, red, pink, orange, etc? Stranger Than Sushi: The Buzz on Japanese Insect Foods

Sushi, Asian Innovation, QQ, And The Digital Silk Road.

Benjamin Joffe of Plus Eight Star has put up his Powerpoint presentation from the recently completed OpenWebAsia08 conference in Seoul. The Powerpoint is entitled, "Collaboration Beyond Culture" and it is on innovation in Asia and the tendency of the West to ignore it, at its own peril. The presentation is quite persuasive, and as a sushi addict, I particularly appreciated Benjamin's inclusion of sushi as one of Asia's top inventions. Check it out.

Sakura Sushi - Panorama City, CA

Sakura Sushi in Panorama City, located in the same shopping center as Seafood City. This place is really tiny and dark, I wasn't sure if the restaurant was open or not by looking from outside, because it was really dark.Prices weren't too bad, combos were between $7 and $10, special rolls were around $10. Food was fine. Nothing amazing, but it's fine. My husband really liked his Hot Hot Hot Roll. Amazing Sushi at Oishii
2008-08-19 14:30:00
They say you can't judge a restaurant from only going there for Restaurant Week. But I think they mean (whoever they are) that if you have a bad meal, it's probably due to the fact that it's Restaurant Week. You often don't get very many options to choose from, meals are sometimes made ahead of time, and the cheaper options are usually the ones available. But what if you have a really amazing meal during Restaurant Week? Does that mean if you go on a non-RW afternoon or evening, your meal will be really, really good?Sara and I decided to go to Oishii in the South End for lunch during Restaurant week because we have always wanted to try it, but generally can't afford the steep prices. Since they only offered lunch for RW, we decided to check it out (thank you to our "alternative work schedules," which allow us such pleasures as lunching together). We started with a perfectly crisp sweet potato tempura and pork gyoza. If you know anything about me, it's that I am a lover of all ...

Kim Kardashian At Shibuya Sushi Restaurant
2008-06-23 02:00:00
Kim Khardashian fans....I saw her Friday night at Shibya, a sushi restaurant a few doors down from her Dash Boutique in Calabasas. I almost didn't recognize her as she was au naturale and and dressed down wearing a black Adidas tracksuit, white t-shirt, black flip flops, and toting around her big patent leather Chanel bag. Kim is a lot more petite in person, maybe 5'3" and yes, she does have a butt and very beautiful. Living in Los Angeles, we all run into celebrities but it's nice to run into them when they are not made up for the cameras. I guess she was in town for her best friend's Allison's bridal shower. And by the way, her Bentley convertible is looking brand new again after the little incident with the motorcycle. There were 2 different groups of people taking photos of her modified car in the parking lot. Who are your celebrity run-ins lately? Do share! My favorite celebrity that I've seen in person is Jennifer Lopez - she's stunning.

Cannibal Banquets: Sushi Isn't Enough For Japanese
2008-06-07 00:38:00
A "Cannibal Banquet" is gross and involves eating a sort of fake human. Now that's what you call playing with your food!! "Here's how the Cannibal Banquet works... a pinata-like "body" is carefully crafted, then stuffed with edible goodies in a red sauce. More "sauce" is somehow embedded into the outside covering - "skin" as it were - of the body so that it will appear to bleed when cut into."Continue: Cannibal Banquets

No Sushi From The English Courtesan!

Whoops! Due to user error and Blogger problems, this blog post appeared and then disappeared again on Saturday. Luckily Blogger and the English Courtesan have got it together now... ;-)The English Courtesan is a little busy this weekend so she thought she'd offer the readers a multiple choice quiz by way of a lazy blog post. This one is based on the doorhanger in the photo, which the English Courtesan purloined from the deliciously twisted NoMonet. Click on the picture to make it bigger! The English Courtesan sees rather a lot of hotel doorhangers these days so she was amused by the geisha girl variation on the 'do not disturb' theme. What better way to frighten off housekeeping than to demonstrate how deeply disturbed you already are?The English Courtesan's best hotel doorhanger find was somewhere in Spain where 'no molestar' was correctly translated as 'do not disturb' but the reverse side had the more interesting translation of 'service me'. For Love of Sushi..
2008-05-07 04:28:00
I'm a sushi girl, BIG TIME. I can eat a ton of it. I once went to an all you can eat sushi buffet and almost killed myself. However, when you're cutting those calories, and watching your carbs, sushi is NOT the way to go. It's more of a reward or a treat. And I wouldn't do it more than once a month when on a diet. So, yesterday, I had my little reward of the most awesome sushi EVER! And the fact that I haven't had it in a long while made it all the better. The sushi chef had to hide his smile as I sat there with my eyes rolling back in my head with every piece I ate. YUM!So, of course I'm calorie sniping right now, so although I enjoyed my sushi unrestrainedly, I figured that getting the goods on sushi calorie content would be a good idea. So, here's the rundown on the calories you consume when you eat sushi, sashimi, and a few other Japanese restaurant delights.SUSHI (1 piece)tuna 60 calssalmon 68 calsyellowtail 54 calseel 90 calsmackerel 93 calscrab 44 calswhite fi...
