My Sweet Pea
2008-11-10 05:47:00 Everytime I want to get the kids, especially ??, to eat veggies, I had to resort to 'tricks'.The other day, I sliced some sweet peas (like sticks) and add them to her favourite bean sprout. Of course, she was able to spot them and didn't want them but I told her they are nice and are like bean sprout; only the colour is different I told her. :P She ate them and like them. *phew*I had to show her the 'original' other she might thought sweet peas looked like bean sprout! So after her dinner, I showed her the actually sweet peas and let her open up the pod to uncover the peas inside. She had so much fun with them and ask for a few more. And she is really good with choosing those that will have big and fat peas. ;)Poor me had to cook and eat those after she had enough with them. :P At least, it's one more veggie that she will eat. :)

But hey, the muffins are great (Jon vouches for this) and the veggies and fruits get naturally sweeter as they cook.2 organic carrots, grated1/2 c. red cabbage, grated1 can peas, drained (or frozen)1/4 c. raisins3/4 c. shredded organic coconutcinnamon to taste1 c. organic buckwheat flour1/2 c. organic brown rice flour1/2 c. ground flax1/2 c. natural brown sugar*3/4 c. waterMix all ingredients in a large bowl until smooth. 2007-06-29 16:33:00 This afternoon I have been trying to get the sweetpeas under control - the strong winds had tangled up a lot of the stems, blowing them off the frame and the miserable weather had made me put off doing anything about them. The result was a whole load of flapping stems at funny angles and hoop shaped stems. Today has been sunny though and it is good to have a job to do that isn't muddy so that I can still serve in the shop.So I have cut off most of the old leaves and the tendrils - the former so that the plant's energy goes into making long stems rather than supporting the leaves and the latter so that the stems don't get caught and bent by the tendrils clinging on. It is a tedious job really and the sweet pea vine looks much worse afterwards - a gangly mass of awkward stems - but hopefully by the middle of next week it will be covered in flowers again.The sweet pea bouquet was put together for a man who ordered our whole sweet pea crop (120 stems) today for his wife - how ro...

2007-05-08 12:07:00 I suspect that this flower is a bit of a fluke - I wouldn't expect the plants to flower until the end of May - but nevertheless, there it is, the first sweet pea of the year - a 3 flowered bloom on a Matucana plant.This year Euan has built me 2 sweet pea supports out of alder branches he chopped in the wood (guess who got a chainsaw for his Christmas???). The supports are very beautiful - even without the sweet peas growing on them and give a height to the garden which is otherwise lacking at the moment. They are much, much better than the cane structures I usually make which have a tendency to fall down in the September winds. I am hoping that these will stay for a good long while.

Great for the autumnonic weather we're having in Sydney at the moment. I also loved the little black and white ballet flats this girl was wearing, with the little black ribbons on the top. Sorry about the picture quality though. Like me, the camera phone isn't big on being out too late at night.
