David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist, tells NEWSWEEK that the Illinois senator won't let himself be "Swift Boated" like John Kerry in 2004. The canard that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth was a “smear campaign” is so well accepted by Big Media that ABC NEWS feels comfortable in portraying the Swifties’ ad campaign as “slanderous” and “smear ads.”  You don’t usually find THAT many people, going to THAT kind of effort to create a fabrication. John Kerry is the perfect opportunist — his venture into Swift Boat territory, at the time, seemed like just the service he needed to get close to the “action” but not really be IN it. When he volunteered for Swift Boat duty, he fully expected to be crusing along the coastline of Viet Nam until his tour was over. He didn’t think he’d be redirected “up river” on dangerous patrol missions … but that’s where he found himself until he racked up his 3 little flesh wounds that sent him back to the states. |
