2008-06-08 02:34:00
Match Report I'm not impressed. Everyone seems to think that the Czechs are all lively and creative and play good football because 4/6 years ago that was true, but they were flagging badly in the last world cup, their best players have retired and Rosicky (their best remaining) is injured. Koller

EURO 2008: Switzerland vs Czech Republic
2008-06-03 14:31:00
If you can avoid betting on this one, will be great - have a beer and enjoy the opening from your chair. But if you are a kind of a guy, like me, who can not sleep waiting for some crashing betting action, just go for it from the same beginning.I will dare to consider a serious upset for the home hopes to leave a track in this tournament even at that pretty early stage. You think Switzerland will fly high with the frantic support of the fans? I don't think so. The team had a long losing series in the preparation period with Germany crashing them 4:0 in the last serious game. The Swiss produced some nice pieces but still need to gather them and improve as a team, specially when they meet experienced teams like Czech we have here.3 points can be vital for Czech Republic here and they will go for them on full power leaded by their tremendous goal keeper Petr Czech. If the team managed to stop the star Swiss striker Frei everything will be of their control and probably after a close de...
Exploring Zürich, Switzerland on a Budget - Nature, Culinary, Sports, Shopp
2008-05-30 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In Zürich, it does not cost a thing to enjoy the view - whether the view of the Old Town from the Lindenhof, the former Roman customs post; from the Polyterrasse of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology; from the observation tower on the Uetliberg mountain, offering a panoramic view of the city, the region and the snow-covered Alpine peaks on the horizon; or from the Freitag Tower, which gives a view of the trendy Zürich-West quarter with its industrial charm. And anyone wanting to enjoy a view of Zürich's numerous, verdant roof terraces and hidden gardens can pay CHF 2 to visit the Karlsturm tower of the Grossmünster Church - a fair price for such a magnificent view.

Switzerland v Czech Republic - 7th June Preview
2008-05-25 22:14:00
The opening game of the Euro 2008 tournament will be one of the joint hosts: Switzerland against one of the favourites: Czech Republic at the Jakob Park Stadium. Switzerland who are ranked 48th in the world will surely not be able to beat Czech Republic who are ranked 6th? To be honest I wouldn't put any money on it. The interesting thing is that in so many opening games of internation tournaments there are shocks. Does anyone remember August 1993? Well then they were apparently ranked 3rd in the world! Like ow the heck did that happen? Between then and the end of 1998 they slipped down to 83rd in the world and have been, as recently as July 2006, ranked 13th in the world. It was just a bad 2007 that saw then drop quite quickly.Czech Replulic have however, been on an upward trend since 1994 when they were ranked 64th in the world. But in two short years they managed to get up to 4th. They may have come off the pace since 2006 but I doubt they'll fall to the Swiss. But what about t...

Desperate ADL leaders smear Switzerland as ‘financier of terrorism’
2008-05-10 00:20:00
by Michael Gillespie The U.S.-based Anti-Defamation League (ADL) smeared the government of Switzerland as a “financier of terrorism” in early April on the basis of that country’s recent agreement to import natural gas from Iran. Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey traveled to Iran for the signing of the agreement between the Swiss energy trading company EGL and the state-owned National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC). Switzerland siding with Iran
2008-04-29 20:30:00
While the European Union or I should say individual member countries have recently toughened up their stance on Iran, one country is going towards the opposite direction: I am talking about the "neutral" Switzerland. I just wrote an article for the Middle East Times on that topic. You can read it here . Here is an excerpt: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter went to Damascus last week to meet with Hamas' Khaled Meshaal, a man accused of terrorism by the United States, Israel and the European Union....(read more)
BERNER OBERLAND

KLEE AND THE ALPS - OCTOBER 2006My first time in Bern was in 1975, just married! Don't know whether this had any influence, but I think the Bernese Oberland is surely one of the most wonderful regions of Switzerland, which has a lot of them! The snow-capped mountain peaks are stunning and the lush green hills will fascinate anyone around! This time, however, the main reason to visit was a different one!"WHAT IS THIS? Any idea? Looks a bit weird...""THE OTHER SIDE! With a highway just below...""CLOSER LOOK""FINALLY THERE - The Paul Klee Zentrum is a museum dedicated to Klee, featuring about 40 percent of Klee?s pictorial works. In the summer of 1997, Livia Klee-Meyer, Paul Klee's daughter-in-law, donated her inheritance of almost 690 works to the city of Bern. Together with additional works donated and loaned by the family and the Paul-Klee-Foundation as well as with 200 loans from private collections, it makes the largest collection of Paul Klee's works. The museum, designed by I...
