In an era when American foreign policy has reached the pinnacle of unilateralism by invading other countries pre-emptively, threatening others with nuclear annihilation, and abrogating in doing so many decades if not more than a century of international law development, Marda Dunsky’s book Pens and Swords presents a very strong, well-referenced argument illuminating the bias within American media reports on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. That bias develops under two main themes – a lack of historical context, and a lack of recognition of the effects of U.S. foreign policy. Along with those two major themes, are the related ideas of weaknesses in analysing and criticizing sources, and in not providing references for what discussion there is as the arguments already fit the generally accepted ‘Washington’ consensus...

Dragon Quest Swords Bumped Up In a surprising, but completely logical move, Dragon Quest Swords joins the extremely limited ranks of titles whose release dates have actually been bumped up instead of delayed. Although, to be fair, the title has been out since last summer in Japan, while we’ve been patiently twiddling our thumbs for the localized version. Square-Enix has announced that the title has been bumped up a week to be released on February 19th. And why is this move not that surprising? Square-Enix is a smart company, and since this isn’t shovelware that they would actually like to reap from sales from, distancing themselves as far away from Smash Bros. as possible is certainly their best option. The British government said Wednesday it would ban the sale of samurai swords because the weapons had been used in a number of serious, high-profile attacks. The Home Office said the swords would be added to the Offensive Weapons Order from April next year, meaning they could not be imported, sold or hired. However collectors of genuine Japanese swords and those used by martial arts enthusiasts would be exempt from the ban. "In the wrong hands, samurai swords are dangerous weapons," Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker said. "We recognize it is the cheap, easily available samurai swords which are being used in crime and not the genuine more expensive samurai swords which are of interest to collectors and martial arts enthusiasts."
