David Gilmour releasing Syd Barrett tribute
2006-12-02 16:13:17 Pink Floyd's David Gilmour is to release three new tracks in tribute to former band member and friend Syd Barrett, he has announced.Gilmour confirmed details of his "Arnold Layne" single on his official website, dedicating the release to Barrett, who died this summer of pancreatic cancer.The material consists of an acoustic take on "Dark Globe" plus two versions of Pink Floyd's first-ever single, "Arnold Layne," all recorded at Gilmour's shows earlier this year at London's Royal Albert Hall.One features David Bowie on vocals and the other Richard Wright from Pink Floyd. Both tracks were initially written by Barrett.The songs will all be available to download from Christmas Day but will also be released to shops in December.Meanwhile, it was revealed last week that Barrett left around 1.2 million to his family in his will.
