Crackery Tableware
2008-03-05 18:03:00 by Doug Black A sad fate awaits cracked china. With no real value on the secondhand market, most is relegated to the garbage. That is, unless Brazilian/Israeli designer Joana Meroz gets a hold of it. Based in the Netherlands, Meroz reclaims broken cups and dishes, which she transforms into her Crackery TablewareCrackery Tableware line for the Ornamented Life. Instead of trashing them, she chooses to "celebrate their imperfections" by glazing the with gold luster and adding a flower to the terminus. The finished product makes any imperfections seem almost deliberate. Tons of damaged dishes rejoice. You can contact Joana through her website for pricing and ordering information.

Warn of Melamine Tableware
2007-11-25 10:19:00 They may look good on the dining table, but the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP)- Malaysia - has warned the public against using melamine tableware. CAP president S. M. Mohamed Idris said studies conducted abroad revealed that melamine tableware contained substances that were hazardous to health. ?Many are not aware that melamine melts when exposed to high temperatures, causing parts of the substance to enter our body along with the food. ?Regular ingestion of melamine can lead to cancer, skin allergies and blindness,? he said at a press conference here. Melamine, also known as thermo set plastic, is made of urea, an organic compound, and formaldehyde, a chemical widely used to manufacture household products. Mohamed Idris said melamine tableware was popular and commonly used to serve hot food in households, restaurants and food stalls. ?We are calling on consumers to refrain from using melamine tableware and use safer tableware made from glass or ceramic,? he said. Diana Carmichael ? Contemporary luxury tableware at it?s most creative
2007-05-25 14:25:00 Two weeks ago I got an invitation to dine with one of the most influential men in the Internet world. He invited me and my girlfriend to dine in his lush penthouse apartment in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. His wife is a former model who also happens to be one of the most gracious hosts I?ve ever met. The night was definitely going to be memorable.I was dressed in my usual Dunhill suit and Hugo Boss tie and dished a small fortune to buy my girlfriend a new dress for the occasion. I needed this night to be perfect: A lot of money was riding on this deal.John and Cathy (not their real names) greeted us at the door and invited us into their beautifully furnished house. The penthouse is decorated in a wave of earthy tones with a dash of dark red ever so often. The dining room is spectacular: A dark mahogany table with the most interesting contemporary chairs. You could see they entertain quite regularly. We sat down for dinner at the table and I saw the one thing that was by far the...

Choosing Tableware For Your Gift List
1969-12-31 19:00:00 Tableware has long been a priority on wedding gifts/ lists. Rather than running the risk of a mismatch of individual guest’s tastes, the safest plan is to be precise on actual pieces as well as designs. There is such a wide choice on offer today with both glassware and accessories available from leading brands to ensure your table is dressed with confidence and without fuss. Tableware ranges now offer dishes to cover every occasion from fine dining with pieces such as gourmet plates and bowls to recreate the restaurant ambience to contemporary rice bowls and noodle bowls - but don’t forget the everyday essential dining pieces of plates, cereal bowls and mugs. Bowls are really versatile pieces but there are so many bowls to choose from: pasta, cereal, dipping and rimmed bowls - think about the foods you cook and what you need from your items. Do you want jugs to fit in the fridge? Some ranges now incorporate buffet saucers which hold cups or rice bowls - great for a... |
