Tafiti Search source code available for download
2007-12-20 21:26:00 The source code for www.tafiti.com is available! What is Tafiti? It is a search visualization website which brings a new user experience to researching (searching and storing results). It was originally created by Microsoft to demonstrate Silverlight and the Windows Live Search APIs. Today the Windows Live Platform team announced the release of the Tafiti Search Visualization source code to CodePlex which means any developer can download, modify, and resell the code (see MS-PL License for all the details). Tafiti has been released as a Windows Live Quick Application via CodePlex, which is a set of demos developers can download and use as reference implementations or starter kits for the Windows Live Platform. 2007-12-05 14:12:00 Microsoft Tafiti is a new search site built on their silverlight technology. The user interface looks pretty good it provides a dynamic interface with intuitive graphics. You can search web, Images, news, rss feeds and books. When you enter the search term, search results will open on the center pane and small icons popup on the left side, you can switch between search products using those icons. Search results can be saved on the right sidebar space, and can be emailed or blogged to windows live spaces.But will many people use it? It still uses Microsoft search, which in my opinion is not as relevant as Google or Yahoo. And the site, while pretty, runs comparitively very slow.I think people want fast results served on a clean white page with as little clutter as possible (example). Tafiti, non il solito motore di ricerca
2007-10-24 20:53:00 Salve!!! Oggi voglio presentarvi un buon motore di ricerca, Tafiti. Dopo aver installato Silverlight (che sarà richiesto non appena andrete nel sito), potremo effettuare una ricerca. Tafiti si distingue dai famosi motori di ricerca per grafica. Si forma infatti su tre colonne : nella prima a sinistra vi sarà lo spazio dove inseriamo la parola chiave, nella colonna di mezzo vi saranno i risultati della vostra ricerca e infine nell'ultima potremo "spostare" le pagine che ci interessano di più, tenendo quindi col il tasto sx la pagina e rilasciandolo nell'apposito spazio. Una delle opzioni più simpatiche e sicuramente utile quando ci troviamo di fronte a molti risultati è la "Tree View", in italiano la "vista albero" o "visualizzazione struttura" che ci farà vedere i nostri risultati come dei rami di un albero! It gives a search experience that is unlike other interfaces that are currently available on the Web, and the graphics on the home page have a similar look and feel to that of the GUI of Windows Vista. 2007-08-24 12:25:00 A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/) launched Silverlight (http://silverlight.net/). It had to be the opponent of Adobe Flash (http://www.adobe.com/products/-flash/). I have to admit, I was really curious what this Silverlight could do, if you can really think you can just "bump off" Flash from their number 1 position (http://www.adobe.com/products/-player_census/images/stats.gif)- on the net. I tried Tafiti (http://www.tafiti.com/) (Also from Microsoft) to test this new Silverlight. It's a Silverlight driven search engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-earch_engine). As expected, it really looks beautiful. But is it really that useful? I don't think so.

2007-08-23 05:04:00 Well guys, as you might recall a month or 2 ago Microsoft went and rolled out it's first production Silverlight application with an Xbox360 promotion. Well it seems that Microsoft has been decided to move forward with other Silverlight projects. Windows Live Search with a Silverlight top layer, is presented as the Tafiti website. Tafiti is the Swahili word for "do research", it presents itself as a desktop with the notes and papers, and little 3d effects. It allows you to search across media types and allows you to filter data results down multiple times to drill into the content. Another nifty feature in this early beta is the ability to drag results onto a dock and save them for later. Remember this is only an early beta and the Tafiti team is actively developing and improving it. But all I can say is if this is where search is going count me in! Tafiti looks really nice on the outside, but it’s basically just the same search engine allowing you to search the web, photos, news and more. If you like looks over simplicity, you’ll like Tafiti. Tafiti is slightly slower than just using Live Search. One feature Tafiti provides is saving results. I really need to start saving my results, because I find that I am always looking for something again and again. You are not required to use Internet Explorer, because it works with other browsers, including Firefox as long as you install Silverlight. I found a problem with that though. Silverlight told me there was an update when I went to Tafiti and tried it out, but after I went to sign in, it won’t let me use Tafiti now. 2007-08-21 22:36:00 Microsoft today announced the availability of Tafiti, a Silverlight-based search tool on top of Microsoft's Live Search engine. Tafiti, which means "do research" in Swahili, enhances searching on the web by allowing users to store and share search results across multiple queries and sessions. This is accomplished by using "shelfs" to store one or more search results simply by dragging the search result onto one of five shelf spaces. Shelfs can then be stored for future use, or can be emailed or blogged about with ease. Tafiti includes a carousel to simplify the organization of returned search results. By rotating the carousel, one can access search results from the web, images, news, RSS feeds, or books. Tafiti also supports a Tree View where by search results are placed on the limbs of a tree which can be rotated and zoomed as necessary to visualize the search result.
