Jay Cutler and Rob Ryan Talking Trash (Video)
2009-11-03 00:13:00 Jay Cutler and Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan exchanged pleasantries with about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter of the Bears 30-6 win over the Browns on Sunday. The Bears failed to cash in on another red zone opportunity and turned it over on downs to the Browns. Cutler and Ryan had the following exchange, courtesy of the NFL (all rights reserved). (H/T to my guy Shea at Blog Down Chicago Bears for the video clip). The quality of the video is not great, so for those who have trouble reading lips, Ryan gives Jay the old "F*CK YOU!" at about the 10 second mark of the video. Tell us how you really feel Rob. Don't hold back....

Pick Six: Talking Big Ten Football With Charissa Thompson
2009-10-16 02:30:00 It's time for another edition of Pick Six, where FBT interviews a nationally recognized Big Ten writer, broadcaster, or football expert to chat about a half-dozen topics. Today's guest is Charissa Thompson of the Big Ten Network. Charissa checked in with FBT from the injured list, as she's currently recovering from a broken foot and ankle. When healthy, her weekly college football duties include hosting Big Ten's Best, contributing to Friday Night Tailgate, and, of course, reporting from the sideline each Saturday for Big Ten football games. With the introductions out of the way, let's jump right into the questions.1. What are some of your favorite Big Ten football coaches or players to interview (maybe a top three) and why? What...
Talking About a Young Italian Knickerbocker
2009-10-15 15:00:00 Danilo Gallinari is going into an important sophomore season. The Rooster's (his nickname, if you didn't know) got to show New York that he's got game enough to make things bearable for them this season. He's got some talent and some tools and I'm eager to see how he does. Hopefully he'll actually play the whole year.He didn't really get his feet wet last season. Playing only 28 games, he showed a very nice shooting touch (Mike D'Antoni called him the best shooter he's seen), solid one on one moves and he still wasn't 100%. He's closer now, though D'Antoni says he's still not in NBA shape. I'd bet that he'll be up to coach's standards a quarter of the way through the season. The issue is probably more about his endurance not measuring up to the demands of D'Antoni's run and gun system yet.I haven't seen much of him in the pre-season yet, but looking at his stats, he's been solid, yet inefficient (seven PPG, on 26% shooting and about four boards a game). I would e...

Pick Six: Talking Big Ten Football With Bruce Feldman
2009-08-31 16:00:00 It's time for another edition of Pick Six, where FBT interviews a nationally recognized writer, broadcaster, or football expert to chat about a half-dozen conference topics. Today's guest is Bruce Feldman, a senior writer at ESPN The Magazine. In addition to his work at the magazine, Bruce Feldman writes a college football blog on ESPN.com (Insider access required) and has published two books. His latest book, Meat Market, gives a behind-the-scenes in-depth look at what the year-round college football recruiting process is really like. Talking Off-Season With Royce of Daily Thunder
2009-07-17 15:37:00 We've been interviewing team bloggers latley. Now we're talking to Royce of Daily Thunder. It's a great site about a really good up and coming team.1. The Thunder played in both the Vegas and Orlando summer leagues. Who impressed you? Obviously Russell Westbrook looked tremendous, but anyone else?In Orlando, Serge Ibaka was an absolute stud. He averaged 13 and four on almost 70 percent shooting and looked NBA ready, but his production has tailed off in Vegas. I think Shaun Livingston has looked almost completely healthy the last few weeks. He's moving extremely well side-to-side and looks like he has a lot of his quickness back. James Harden has lived up to expectation and at times both Kyle Weaver and D.J. White have looked really solid.2. I have also liked what I have seen from James Harden thus far. The only thing that looks really bad from him is his tendency to only go left. Have you seen that and how much of an issue could it be for him in his rookie season? You're absolut...
Talking Off-Season With Kyle of Truth About It
2009-07-16 20:27:00 We got a chance to interview Kyle of Truth About It. Make sure to check out his site to get your Wizards fix. Also follow him on Twitter.1. A while back, the Wizards picked up Randy Foye and Mike Miller for Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila and the fifth pick in the draft (now Ricky Rubio). What were your thoughts on this trade? Does this show the Wizards front office wants to win now rather than later? The Wizards are definitely in 'win-now' mode, or else they would have traded Antawn Jamison at the February '09 trade deadline in exchange for cap room and perhaps a mid-level prospect. Both Cleveland and Portland were said to be very interested. The Miller/Foye trade, which keeps Washington in luxury tax territory, further establishes the immediacy of the situation.Overall, I like the trade. The bench gets deeper. The offense, combined with the new system Flip Saunders will implement, gets much better. However, losing Darius Songaila (Ernie Grunfeld has been on rec...

Talking Off-Season With Drew of Peachtree Hoops
2009-07-08 03:08:00 Drew took some time to talk with us about the Hawks. Make sure you check out Peachtree Hoops. It's a great Hawks blog.1. This is from the Basketball Fiend (also see their blog): Who is a bigger free agent priority? Marvin Williams? Or Mike Bibby (written before he re-signed)?Now that Mike Bibby is signed, I am going with Marvin. Sorry I am a slacker so that this question can be answered..2. Do you think Mike Woodson can be the coach of a title winning Hawks team? I myself haven't loved him as coach and question if he's the right coach to lead them to bigger and better places.Who is asking this question and where can I find their optimism? Just to answer it as a hypothetical makes me feel better about the Hawks. Most people would mock me for even bringing up the idea that the Hawks are only a piece away from contending let alone winning. But in my wildest dreams where I suspend all kinds of reality (like the fact that the Cavs and Lakers exist) not even Mike Woodson can make it int...

Talking Off-Season With Nick of Boston Celtics News Station
2009-07-03 17:52:00 Making the team blogging rounds, we're now talking Celtics. We have Nick Gelso of Boston Celtics News Station. An up and coming C's blog you are going to have check out.1. Lots of elite Eastern conference teams have made big moves recently. The Cavs got Shaq and the Magic got Vince Carter. What if anything do the Celtics need to do to keep up with the other title contending teams in the East?I believe Boston has almost completely slipped under the radar of the media and key opponents. The Cavs acquired Mo Williams last season to combat the Celtics. Though that playoff match up never materialised, Mo Williams was a no factor against the Magic in the EC Finals. This season the Cavs brought in Shaq to combat Dwight Howard. While Cleveland has spent the last two off seasons on the defensive, this year prepping for an Orlando rematch, Boston has been developing their current roster, resting and regrouping for another title run. In my opinion, the Celtics starting line up has the league...
Talking Off-Season with Howlin' T-Wolf
2009-07-03 16:24:00 The Timberwolves have been in the news a ton lately. Maybe you have heard. We got a chance to talk to the Howlin' T-Wolf about his team. Also make sure you check out his site, just a tremendous blog.1. This whole Ricky Rubio stuff is crazy. You take him with the fifth pick in the draft, he doesn't show up to meet the press in Minnesota, he's totally unsure on if he'll play with the Wolves or overseas next year (written before it was reported he will be in Spain for two years). Give us the latest on this whole situation and predict where you think Rubio will be playing next year. The Ricky Rubio situation can only be described as a poker game or a chess match. The latest is that Rubio was said to have flown into town with his dad this past Saturday with a meeting with Kahn. Although there was no official confirmation of this both Timberwolves beat writers as well as a source I have with the organization pointed to this being true. The sounds of silence afterward (no confirmation, ...

Talking Off-Season With Jeff of Project Spurs
2009-06-30 16:46:00 We are talking to lots of team bloggers and getting their takes on what their squads will be doing in the off-season. Now we have Jeff of the great Spurs blog, Project Spurs. Make sure to check them out and stay up to date on everything Spurs.1. Let's first talk about the Spurs big trade. Getting Richard Jefferson for Obricio and some other old guys, how happy did that make you feel? How close were to you writing that the Spurs front office really wasn't doing their job?So happy I packed Oberto's bag, got him a 1-way ticket to Milwaukee and lied to the Dept. of Homeland Security that he is illegally in the USA and needs to be deported immediately to Argentina. Said to Bowen thanks for everything, see you at your jersey retirement party in SA and asked Thomas "Can we get you back instead of Oberto and Bowen?" That's how happy I was. Seriously the Spurs lacked that athletic small forward. It was very apparent in the Mavs series when Howard was having his way with the Spurs. This w...
Talking Off-Season With: A Royal Pain
2009-06-29 21:29:00 We got a chance to talk with Bryan of A Royal Pain. He writes a tremendous Kings blog, so make sure you check it out. Also check out his other site, Kings Forum.1. Looking at your draft review, I see you were one of the guys that wanted the Kings to select Ricky Rubio. Tell us what you do and don't like about what you got and if you'd still deal Kevin Martin for Rubio.I think a lot of people were more shocked than upset at the selection of Tyreke Evans, including myself. I watched Evans at Memphis quite a bit and thought he'd be a really nice player in the league, but, I still think we made a mistake passing on Rubio. The way the Kings roster is built, guys like Spencer Hawes, Jason Thompson, and Kevin Martin all need to be set up for shots and that's something Rubio could have done with ease. Despite what a lot of people are saying, I really don't view Evans as a point guard even with his great ball handling skills but his ability to break down defenders one on one is a welcom...
A View of Talking Together
2009-06-22 18:32:00 I was watching The View this morning (don't judge me.) It's a terrible show that I deliberately watch to drive myself crazy. Besides the nonsensical political parroting of Reality Gameshow Contestant Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Flat-Earther Sherri Smith, the most annoying part of the show is how they all constantly talk over each other. No one waits for someone else to finish their sentence, they just start talking. Even when they think they're being polite ("I just wanted to say..." as a way to interrupt someone) they're not being polite. How do we avoid that in improvisation? Sometimes we don't. People talk over each other and step on each other's timing. Frequently it's just an accident, players don't...

2009-06-02 16:10:00 Click here to listen. The public usually sees LPGA and PGA Tour golfers as an illustrious and highly regarded group, quotable and predictable in their demeanor. You rarely hear about an offensive or derogatory slur and, if you do, it is quietly handled by the powers-that-be (unless John Daly is involved and then it becomes fodder).Michelle Wie, for example, is becoming one of the more quotable golfers on the LPGA Tour. She is highly visible to the media and her public image is full of aplomb. Her most recent stylized excerpt?"You know, like I always say, dream high and stuff, set your goals up high, and I think it's definitely - I'm not saying it's an easy goal to achieve" ...Stanford?That's all well and good but how would Michelle Wie, and the LPGA Tour in general, handle a dose of "trash talk" amongst each other? Does any of that occur on or off the course and would it make the LPGA more interesting?Charles Barkley, during a recent media conference stated, "The best part of spo...

Oh. My. God. Stop Talking Already!
2009-05-25 20:18:00 Milton and his persecution complex in happier times It wasn't easy for me to set aside my issues with you as a person and try to embarce you as a Cub. To be honest, I've always preferred my Cubs more in the Ryne Sandberg vein than Kent Mercker one. But I did it. I even wrote an entire front page diary defending you against the media. But it's getting harder and harder to like you. This has GOT to stop. Bradley believes his strike zone is being widened, forcing him to chase pitches he normally doesn't swing at or risk being called out on strikes. Asked if there have been repercussions from Vanover's fellow umpires since the incident, Bradley didn't mince words. "There always is," he replied. "No matter what, I'm the type of guy [where] I don't care what somebody does to a colleague of mine. I'm not going to treat him any differently. I do things straight up, because I'm a straight-up, honest individual. "Unfortunately, I just think it's a lot of 'Oh, you did this to my co...

Sometimes, when I start talking, I just ramble until I run out of words.
2009-04-06 17:03:00 I am, right now, the sole breadwinner for a our family. That is, Middle and The Boy both work, but they work at the kind of jobs where the primary benefit is not so much the pay as it is the ability to bring home free bagels for me -- something that happens all-too-rarely, if you ask me.But I take my responsibilities as the income earner in our family seriously. I get up and make it to work on time, mostly, at least two or three days per week, and I spend upwards of 25% of my time at the office not surfing the Internet, all to bring home enough money to make sure that when the coffeemaker breaks down, we can take a jaunty trip out to Wal-Mart and get a new one, and throw in a Hershey's Bar for Mr F and Mr Bunches to split on the way home.I'd hate to think that if something happened to me, Sweetie's ability to replace coffee makers (and toilet seats, and couch cushions) at will, with a bonus candy bar thrown in, would be hampered, and I'd hate to think that she and the kids would...
