Working Out in Tampa Bay
2009-05-27 18:17:00 I’ve been working out mostly in Tampa Bay for the past couple of years. I think it’s a great place to get in shape while getting a nice tan.

Tampa Bay Has Sunshine - and Syphilis
2009-02-15 18:05:00 STD rates are rising in Hillsborough County and the Florida Catholic Conference wants an abstinence-only curriculum “arguing that children who learn about contraceptives in school are more sexually active.” Kids get bored and have sex. If they have condoms on them, they are more likely to use them. If they know how to use them properly, STDs (and unplanned pregnancies) can be avoided. Thousands of women become infertile each year because of untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea infections, said John M. Douglas Jr., director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention. Okay, this part doesn’t bother me. That’s right. I’m okay with poor and/or uneducated women *not* breeding. I’d prefer they *choose* not to have children, though. So let’s get condoms in the classrooms. Pee-ronto.

Tampa Bay Takes World Series Game Two Over Philadelphia...Sox To Pursue Fre
2008-10-24 11:22:00 There is much on our Friday plate on this cold, still dark morning. I'll start with game two of the World Series. Tampa Bay, behind "Big Game" James Shields, defeated the visiting Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4-2. They ran, they hit and run and scratched out just what that they needed. The game was littered with Philadelphia lost chances and squandered opportunities, and I'm sure that team from Pennsylvania wants to forget game two and move on, at home, on Saturday. But the weather forecast might have the last word on that one. There is a good chance of heavy rain developing early Saturday down there, but it might not rain all night. The game is again scheduled for an 8:35pm EDT first pitch and I'll know more about the specific chances for wetness and I'll pass it on to you tomorrow. My original prediction came exactly true -- Philadelphia won game one behind their lefty wunderkind Hamels and Shields made it 1-1 with a gutsy performance in game two. It'll be Matt Garza ...
WHEN THE MUSIC'S OVER...Tampa Bay Defeats Boston And Goes To The World Seri
2008-10-20 11:23:00 The 2008 baseball season ended for the Boston Red Sox Sunday night as the American League pennant winning Tampa Bay Rays defeated them by a score of 3-1. Tampa Bay went from a 2007 season in which they had the worst record in baseball all the way to the upcoming World Series, and it was Matt Garza, last night's starter and series MVP, who helped them get there. He was simply stunningly effective last night, going seven innings and allowing a first inning home run to Dustin Pedroia and only one other hit. The Sox had the bases loaded in the eighth inning but rookie reliever David Price struck out JD Drew to end the last Boston threat of 2008. I think Pedey put my feelings in a nutshell with his postgame comments, and here they are, followed by Sox manager Terry Francona's take on his team... "We played as hard as we could," said Dustin Pedroia, whose homer accounted for the Red Sox run. "I guess we ran out of magic. I'm proud of everybody. We played as hard as we could all year lo...
Congratulations To The Tampa Bay Rays
2008-10-20 06:45:00 Everyone out there always says that the Boston Red Sox fans aren’t gracious in defeat but I will buck the trend by wishing my heartfelt congratulations to the Tampa Bay Rays on winning the American League Championship Series and earning your first ever World Series berth. Go out there and make the American League proud and ...

***BOSTON RED SOX DEFEAT TAMPA BAY RAYS TO FORCE A GAME SEVEN***
2008-10-19 11:13:00 ***LAST CHANCE TEXACO GAME THREE SUNDAY NIGHT AT 8:07pm EDT On TBS & TBS HD***__________________________-_____________________________Wo-nder of wonders, miracle of miracles, the Boston Red Sox took game two of the three "Last Chance Texaco" baseball games by defeating the bedeviled and totally spooked Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 4-2. Josh Beckett started for the defending world champions and relied heavily on his curveball. He was able to control his 92 MPH fastballs too, and he threw 'em where Tampa Bay couldn't hit 'em. He knows how to pitch and he showed that to the world last night in a game that was blacked out for the first 19 minutes on TBS because of a shutdown of a master router, which feeds the signal to we the people. I listened to that 19 minutes on radio and was happy to hear that the Sox tied the game at one and went ahead 2-1 in the second inning. Beckett settled down magnificently after an Upton first inning solo tater and pitched five full, allowing two runs on f...
Last Chance Texaco Game # 2...Boston Red Sox At Tampa Bay Rays
2008-10-18 10:48:00 Here we are - it's very early Saturday morning, a Saturday that might be the last day of the 2008 Boston Red Sox season or a day of celebration and anticipation of a game seven tomorrow night in St. Petersburg, Florida. It'll be Josh "Baseball" Beckett facing Tampa Bay ace James Shields, who is pitching with one extra day of rest. Manager Terry Francona has stated again and again that Beckett will be his game # 6 starter and, if needed (please!), Jon Lester will toe the rubber for game seven. But the troubling question that surrounds us all still lingers - is Beckett hurt? Can he still pitch effectively with a fastball that tops out at 92 MPH? His usual is 95-96 MPH, so there is less room for error if his fastball location is a little off, which it has been for his starts against the Angels and these Rays. All questions will be answered tonight, starting at 8:07pm EDT. You can see the game(s) on TBS and TBSHD, much to their delight. Were it not for the amazing Sox comeback, 2008 b...
***BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE FENWAY*** Tampa Bay Rays 13 Boston Red Sox 4
2008-10-15 11:03:00 The Boston Red Sox are in deep, DEEP trouble. Last night at Fenway Park, the Tampa Bays Rays demolished the home team by a score of 13-4. It was never close. Tim Wakefield, in his last start of 2008, allowed five runs in only 2 2/3 innings before being pulled by manager Terry Francona. Since their game one victory, a 2-0 win, Red Sox starting pitching has been horrendous and their hitting extremely woeful. Here's what Pedey Pedroia and catcher Keven Cash, who had a meaningless home run, had to say after the humiliation was over..."We're down, 3-1, and if we lose, we're going home," Dustin Pedroia said. "Hit the panic button. You've got to play better. That's it. That's all I've got for you guys. Play better, we win.""It's very deflating, frustrating, whatever word you want to use," said Kevin Cash, author of that home run. "We've got to regroup. We were down in this situation last year. That's a huge factor. Everybody in here still believes that we're going to go out and ...
Lester Pummeled As Tampa Bay Tilts The Red Sox 9-1
2008-10-14 10:51:00 After a tremendous pitching effort in game one, the Boston Red Sox have seen two terrible outings. One, of course, was from the injured and hurting Josh Beckett. And the second was from Mr. Dependable, dependable until yesterday. Jon Lester gave up five runs in only 5 2/3 innings as the Red Sox went down to Tampa Bay by a score of 9-1. It was 5-0 after Tampa Bay's top half of the third, and I'm sorry to say, against Matt Garza, it was over. Finished. Gone. Garza worked six full, giving up only one earned run on six hits, walking three but striking out five. That's a far cry from Lester's numbers, and Paul Byrd in relief was no better, although he did save the Boston bullpen from unneeded work...here's what manager Tito Francona & Jon Lester had to say after the important defeat, thoughts of Lester and Matt Garza...?I didn?t stay away from the big inning,? Lester said in a quiet Red Sox clubhouse. ?You can?t give them momentum like that.??It certainly wasn?t his sharpest outing,...
Game Three - Boston Red Sox & Tampa Bay Rays...JON LESTER IS IN THE BUILDI
2008-10-13 11:35:00 Boston Red Sox baseball returns to Fenway Park today, Monday, October 13th. Happy Coumbus Day to every one of you. The weather will be downright perfect with sunny skies and temperatures in the very low to mid 70s for those of you lucky enough to be holding onto tickets for the important contest. The Red Sox have their best pitcher going. Jon Lester will face the sometimes tough Matt Garza in front of 38,000 plus of the Fenway Faithful. The shadows will affect those players in the batting box, which has to give a slim advantage to the lefty Lester. But he's been lights out this year day or night. The game will start at 4:37pm EDT and the winner will have a 2-1 series lead with two more games coming up at Fenway tomorrow and Thursday. If needed, the last two games will be Saturday and Sunday down at the Trop. But first things first...what happened to Josh Beckett? Here is what he and manager Terry "Tito" Francona had to say on that very subject..."I can understand it," Beckett said ...
Beckett Battered, Busted And Bruised...Tampa Bay 9 Red Sox 8 (11)
2008-10-12 11:07:00 Only seven pitchers in playoff history had given up 8 runs or more in only 4 1/3 innings...until last night at the Trop Dome. Make it eight as Josh Beckett, the recipient of a pain injection earlier in the week, was battered bloody by the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston wasted 12 hits and 4 home runs in a losing cause. The final score was 9-8 Rays, and Red Sox Nation is very worried about their ace. Will he pitch again in 2008? Right now, we don't know, but things sure look bad for him. A shallow sacrifice fly to right by Upton scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Timlin had come in to pitch because Sox manager Terry "Tito" Francona was literally down to his last man on the pitching staff, namely Mike Timlin, who should hang up his cleats when the season ends, a post season quite possibly shortened by the ineffectiveness of the Boston ace, Josh Beckett. What a shame. Here are some thoughts from Tito, pitching coach John Farrell, who was ejected for arguing a strike/ball...
DAISUKE DOMINATION...Boston 2 Tampa Bay 0
2008-10-11 11:04:00 Seven innings pitched. ZERO runs on four hits and two walks. That was Daisuke Matsuzaka's pitching line for Friday's Tampa Bay Rays/Boston Red Sox game. The Red Sox won the game by a score of 2-0, taking a 1-0 series lead. Josh Beckett will face the Ray's erratic at times Scott Kazmir tonight at 8pm EDT on TBS and TBSHD. But last night, it was all the escape artist known as Daisuke Matsuzaka. He didn't allow a hit until the bottom of the seventh, but there were a few bumps in the road. Right off the bat (no pun intended), Matsuzaka was in a jam with the bases full of Rays. After 27 pitches, the inning was over with no runners coming anywhere near the plate. Cliff Floyd grounded out to end it. Yet again, the Red Sox starter had wriggled out of it, much as he's done all season long in amassing 19 wins. He did not give up a hit until the seventh inning, an inning he got through unscathed and unscored upon. And then it was the 'pen's turn, and they shined just as brightly. Okajim...
FOUR AND NO MORE...A Red Sox-Tampa Bay Matchup Preview
2008-10-10 11:08:00 The Boston Globe today (Friday) ran a Nick Carfado Red Sox-Tampa Bay matchup synopsis. Just click on the title of this post and go through the pages (with pics) one by one...fielding, hitting, pitching etc. After each section, it will allow you to vote, but bear in mind that the voters are almost all exclusively Sox fans. But I found it an entertaining and informative way to spend 10 minutes. I hope you can try it!So just click on the title...that's it! Tonight, it's Daisuke Matsuzaka and James Shields who are ready to go at it on the mound. The Phillies defeated the Dodgers on Thursday in a well pitched game by a score of 3-2. Manny had a couple hits, but he's been doing that almost every game for LA. Don't we wish he was a little (read..A LOT) more motivated to play for the Red Sox? What he did was unforgivably, unprofessionally hideous. No ifs, ands or buts. HE QUIT ON HIS TEAM...f*ck him. The Phillies and the artful Dodgers will play game two in the late afternoon, and then ...
Home Run City! Boston 13 Tampa Bay 5
2008-09-16 11:18:00 The Boston Red Sox had their home run bats swinging freely Monday night in Florida as they bashed the Devil Rays by a score of 13-5. A four run first inning, including a three run shot by Big Papi David Ortiz, launched the Red Sox into a share of first place but they are one game back in the loss column. This is what Mike Lowell had to say after the convincing victory...?It helps in the first inning when David hits a three-run home run, that?s a good feeling starting the game off,? said Mike Lowell, who added a solo home run two batters later. ?I think we did a good job of keeping the intensity and keep scoring runs because these are all-important games for us. They?re very important because it?s an important series. It?s a good statement game for us. We haven?t won a game in this park this year. We swung the bats real well today. We hit the long ball a lot better than we have all year; that?s a good sign.?Josh Beckett will take the mound tonight as Boston goes for sole position of ...

An Extra Inning Red Sox Loss...A September 11th Rememberance...Tampa Bay 4
2008-09-11 10:56:00 Wednesday night's game between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays was filled with good and bad tidings for the home team. The good...realizing that staff ace Josh Beckett is back in form and will be ready to help the club when October play begins. In fact, the entire Boston bullpen, which held the Rays scoreless for 6 1/3 innings until Mike Timlin entered in the 14th inning and gave up a three run bomb which effectively ended the game, was superb. And you all know that the bad is the fact that the Red Sox lost the game. They are now 2 1/2 games out of first place but they have a firm grasp on the Wild Card slot. Only a complete and utter September collapse would prevent Boston from making it to the postseason. And that ain't going to happen. Loser Mike Timlin had this to say on what one loss means to his team...?It?s not like it puts us out of the race, by any means,? Timlin said. ?We just drop back one more game. We?re still in it. We?re not hanging our heads. Yeah, they b...
A Blown Opportunity For First Place...Tampa Bay 5 Boston 4
2008-09-10 11:30:00 This one was tough to take in the ninth inning. Jason Bay had hit a two run tie-breaking home run in the eighth inning to make the score 4-3 Red Sox. But Jonathon Papelbon, who had only four blown saves in his last 40 chances, added one BS to that total. Pitching for the third consecutive day, his fastball, the pitch he relied on yesterday, lacked movement of any kind, making each one that found the strike zone eminently hittable. And the Rays hit 'em. A home run and two one out doubles plated two runs and the Red Sox couldn't do anything in the bottom of the ninth. It was a well deserved loss for Paps and put his team 1 1/2 games in back of the frontrunners. Here's what he had to say after his embarassing outing...?There?s a human factor involved, and we are all human and we are going to make mistakes,? Papelbon said. ?I am human and I didn?t make my pitches where I wanted to tonight. For me, it was just mislocated fastballs and fastballs that weren?t crisp at home plate and did...

Brett Favre To Tampa Bay Buccaneers - NFL Network
2008-08-06 10:02:00 Brett Favre To Tampa Bay Buccaneers - NFL Network According to NFL Network, there's a good chance that Green Bay Packers quarterback Bret Farve is going to be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers within 24 hours. So Mark September 28th, 2008 as a day for the Bret Farve Day Against Green Bay. What a story, especially if he wins and wins big.
Favre traded to Tampa Bay?
2008-08-06 00:59:00 The site SaveBrett.net is reporting that Brett Favre has been traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the moment, their so-called breaking news is already over two hours old and no one else has reported it yet. The biased site has less credibility than most blogs, but anyway ...Of course, I'm not saying that it's not true, because it's certainly within the realm of believability. The Packers are likely trying to get the best deal possible for Favre.Speaking of unreliability, when are people going to start to distrust unnamed and anonymous sources? Favre, himself, was upset with the untruths that have come out in the media. Things like the so-called team-issued cell phone.I'd like to think whoever reported that first reconsiders using that "source" as a person with inside information.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.

Tampa Bay Hardware Burns
2008-06-09 03:15:00 Tampa Bay Hard Hardware has burned down.According to TBO.com "The roof of Tampa Bay Hardware has collapsed and the one-story barnlike building at 5511 N. Nebraska Ave. is gutted, after having been 85 percent involved in flames,"". . . .six ladder trucks responded to the scene when the fire started shortly after 6 p.m. The store was closed and no one was inside the building, officials said. No injuries have been reported,"What a shame, what a loss to Seminole Heights and Tampa history.
Tampa Bay Hardware
2008-06-09 01:28:00 Today Seminole heights lost a neighborhood institution as a 3 alarm fire claimed Tampa Bay Hardware at 55oo N. Nebraska. The fire closed Nebraska Avenue and 9th Street for several hours. The store property extends from Nebraska to 9th St. bordering the Hampton Terrace Historic District.Tampa Bay Hardware was the oldest continuous hardware store in Tampa. A part of the neighborhood since 1941, the store had continued to operate in a very different environment of big box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. It outlasted some chain stores like Sears hardware that came and went. While not flashy or modern, it was convenient. Over the years, they have been reliable for that quick trip to get a part or two when I just didn't have time to wait in line at Home Depot. The store is totally destroyed, with today's economics, the question will become will they rebuild? If not, what will take its place on the site.

Boston, Beckett Breeze...Red Sox 5 Tampa Bay 1
2008-06-05 11:35:00 Josh Beckett and the Boston bullpen made it look easy Wednesday night at Fenway Park with a 5-1 thumping of the formally first place Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox, with the victory, vaulted into first place ahead of the Florida team. They just refuse to lose at home. Tonight they go for the sweep, with Jon Lester facing James Shields. Beckett, who ran his record to 6-4, breezed through the first six innings although he was not quite as sharp as we're all used to. He slipped during a sixth inning delivery but struck out the batter with the very next pitch after a mini-conference at the mound. We do not need to add to the bulging disabled list, although Coco Crisp injured his thumb trying to slide into a knee-blocked second base. He'll be OK for tonight, we have to hope. Here's what the Captain had to say of his battery partner..."His location is getting better," said Varitek, who attributed Beckett's comparatively slow start this season to missing most of spring training because of...

Sox Overpower Rays...Boston 7 Tampa Bay 4
2008-06-04 11:39:00 The Boston Red Sox just do not seem to lose these days while playing at Fenway Park. After Tuesday night's 7-4 triumph over the first place Tampa Bay Rays, their home record is an AMAZING 22-5. Not bad, not bad at all. It was Justin Masterson who took Matsuzaka's turn in the rotation, and he was good, not as good as his two previous starts but good enough to earn his second victory. He went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits while walking only two. Skipper Terry Francona had this to say about his young star hurler...?I think he enjoys pitching, I don?t think this atmosphere has gotten out ahead of him or anything. He just likes to pitch. I said before the game Masterson?s pitching and we really didn?t give it a second thought, and I meant that as a compliment. He goes up and we expect him to give us a good ballgame, and he did that.? After Justin's 91 pitches took him through that first six, it was the bullpen's turn to shine. First up was Little Manny Delcarmen, who h...

Poison Dart DJ’s Murdered in Tampa Bay area
2008-05-31 05:43:00 Poison Dart DJ’s Antone “Tony Montana”Geargo-Neely (some reports are that he was not part of Poison Dart, but had his own sound system), Michael “Chris Rock” Rottigan, and their friend Kevin “Bumba Blaze” Jordache Webster were murdered last Saturday, in what appears to be a senseless act of retaliation, from an incident which occurred the previous weekend. Around 2:40 am on Saturday, May 24th police were called out to The Thunderbird Bar, where Poison Dart reportedly played every Friday night, due to a noise complaint. Once police arrived on the scene they found Antone Geargo Neely and Kevin Jordache Webster dead on the scene, Michael Rottigan died later at an area hospital, all three men were the victims of gunshot wounds. Police immediately suspected that the three were specifically targeted, because the club had at least 300 patrons and no one else was injured during the brutal crime. Investigators have identified and issued a warrant fo...

Tampa Bay Bucs Receiving Corps as fragile as ever?
2008-05-28 13:00:00 Going into Last Season our Wide Receiving Corps was one of the (if not the) weakest in the league.. Fast forward to present day and that verbage continues to ring true as evidence by the Bucs bringing in not one, not two, but three more Wide Receivers to audition for starting jobs... This is getting ridiculous The Bucs have invited old man Eric Moulds, old man Eddie Kennison, and no-name Bryan Gilmore to become Tampa Bay Buc Wide Receivers... eh. This doesnt bode well for the current guys on the roster. Dexter Jackson will certainly bring some excitement to the table, but who else will show up? Clayton? Stovall? Bryant? At least Galloway and Hilliard will come to play It's insanely early, but bringing in these three guys for looks doesnt exude confidence in one's current corps of Receivers, yikes...
