After a 10-game road trip, the Tampa Bay Rays may be heading home to a hurricane. Tropical Storm Fay, which could gain momentum Monday and reach hurricane force after passing over Cuba, is expected to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast Tuesday. The Rays wrap up their road trip Sunday night against the Texas Rangers, and are ...

Tampa Bay Hardware Burns
2008-06-09 03:15:00
Tampa Bay Hard Hardware has burned down.According to TBO.com "The roof of Tampa Bay Hardware has collapsed and the one-story barnlike building at 5511 N. Nebraska Ave. is gutted, after having been 85 percent involved in flames,"". . . .six ladder trucks responded to the scene when the fire started shortly after 6 p.m. The store was closed and no one was inside the building, officials said. No injuries have been reported,"What a shame, what a loss to Seminole Heights and Tampa history.
Tampa Bay Hardware
2008-06-09 01:28:00
Today Seminole heights lost a neighborhood institution as a 3 alarm fire claimed Tampa Bay Hardware at 55oo N. Nebraska. The fire closed Nebraska Avenue and 9th Street for several hours. The store property extends from Nebraska to 9th St. bordering the Hampton Terrace Historic District.Tampa Bay Hardware was the oldest continuous hardware store in Tampa. A part of the neighborhood since 1941, the store had continued to operate in a very different environment of big box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. It outlasted some chain stores like Sears hardware that came and went. While not flashy or modern, it was convenient. Over the years, they have been reliable for that quick trip to get a part or two when I just didn't have time to wait in line at Home Depot. The store is totally destroyed, with today's economics, the question will become will they rebuild? If not, what will take its place on the site.

Boston, Beckett Breeze...Red Sox 5 Tampa Bay 1
2008-06-05 11:35:00
Josh Beckett and the Boston bullpen made it look easy Wednesday night at Fenway Park with a 5-1 thumping of the formally first place Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox, with the victory, vaulted into first place ahead of the Florida team. They just refuse to lose at home. Tonight they go for the sweep, with Jon Lester facing James Shields. Beckett, who ran his record to 6-4, breezed through the first six innings although he was not quite as sharp as we're all used to. He slipped during a sixth inning delivery but struck out the batter with the very next pitch after a mini-conference at the mound. We do not need to add to the bulging disabled list, although Coco Crisp injured his thumb trying to slide into a knee-blocked second base. He'll be OK for tonight, we have to hope. Here's what the Captain had to say of his battery partner..."His location is getting better," said Varitek, who attributed Beckett's comparatively slow start this season to missing most of spring training because of...

Sox Overpower Rays...Boston 7 Tampa Bay 4
2008-06-04 11:39:00
The Boston Red Sox just do not seem to lose these days while playing at Fenway Park. After Tuesday night's 7-4 triumph over the first place Tampa Bay Rays, their home record is an AMAZING 22-5. Not bad, not bad at all. It was Justin Masterson who took Matsuzaka's turn in the rotation, and he was good, not as good as his two previous starts but good enough to earn his second victory. He went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits while walking only two. Skipper Terry Francona had this to say about his young star hurler...?I think he enjoys pitching, I don?t think this atmosphere has gotten out ahead of him or anything. He just likes to pitch. I said before the game Masterson?s pitching and we really didn?t give it a second thought, and I meant that as a compliment. He goes up and we expect him to give us a good ballgame, and he did that.? After Justin's 91 pitches took him through that first six, it was the bullpen's turn to shine. First up was Little Manny Delcarmen, who h...

Poison Dart DJ’s Murdered in Tampa Bay area
2008-05-31 05:43:00
Poison Dart DJ’s Antone “Tony Montana”Geargo-Neely (some reports are that he was not part of Poison Dart, but had his own sound system), Michael “Chris Rock” Rottigan, and their friend Kevin “Bumba Blaze” Jordache Webster were murdered last Saturday, in what appears to be a senseless act of retaliation, from an incident which occurred the previous weekend. Around 2:40 am on Saturday, May 24th police were called out to The Thunderbird Bar, where Poison Dart reportedly played every Friday night, due to a noise complaint. Once police arrived on the scene they found Antone Geargo Neely and Kevin Jordache Webster dead on the scene, Michael Rottigan died later at an area hospital, all three men were the victims of gunshot wounds. Police immediately suspected that the three were specifically targeted, because the club had at least 300 patrons and no one else was injured during the brutal crime. Investigators have identified and issued a warrant fo...

Tampa Bay Bucs Receiving Corps as fragile as ever?
2008-05-28 13:00:00
Going into Last Season our Wide Receiving Corps was one of the (if not the) weakest in the league.. Fast forward to present day and that verbage continues to ring true as evidence by the Bucs bringing in not one, not two, but three more Wide Receivers to audition for starting jobs... This is getting ridiculous The Bucs have invited old man Eric Moulds, old man Eddie Kennison, and no-name Bryan Gilmore to become Tampa Bay Buc Wide Receivers... eh. This doesnt bode well for the current guys on the roster. Dexter Jackson will certainly bring some excitement to the table, but who else will show up? Clayton? Stovall? Bryant? At least Galloway and Hilliard will come to play It's insanely early, but bringing in these three guys for looks doesnt exude confidence in one's current corps of Receivers, yikes...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers OTA Nuggets, News, and Rumors
2008-05-22 13:00:00
Former USF WR Amarri Jackson knows special teams is where he can at least catch on with the Bucs, he's also nervous around the veterans That's something you don't hear a whole lot of, professional athletes being nervous amongst their peers. I guess that happens when a player like Derrick Brooks is telling you how to approach the weight room... If a couple receivers don't shine early on, Jackson might have a better shot to bypass special teams than he realizes Earnest Graham continues to miss Voluntary Workout after Voluntary workout. He's supposedly holding out for more money.. Valrico Rick from the Bucs Beat comments section nails Graham's situation on the head. He compares Earnest to Errict Rhett of Bucs lore.. Rhett had even more success than Graham in one season (amassing over 1200 yards), his agent advised him to hold out for more money, in stepped Rookie RB Warrick Dunn and thats all she wrote... Like Rick points out, guess who's back in a Bucs uni?? exactly Amarri Ja...

Tampa Bay Rookie is officially on a Football Card
2008-05-20 04:02:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rookie WR Dexter Jackson has finally made it to the big leagues. This past Saturday, the 2nd Round NFL Draft Pick took time out of his day to do a photo shoot for Donruss and Upper Deck trading card companies (What happened to Topps?). He was among several other NFL Draft Picks: Darren McFadden (Oakland), Matt Ryan (Atlanta), Jake Long (Miami), and DeSean Jackson (Philly) etc etc... For DJax this was a surreal moment: "It's crazy," said Tampa Bay receiver Dexter Jackson. "Just awhile ago we were in college uniforms, now we're in NFL uniforms. We're all happy to be here. It kind of sinks in when we're all together, seeing us all in different uniforms." - Frank Tadych of NFL.com I don't know about you, but I'm happy to see DJax flying diving through the air for football card photos. I know Gruden's happy. Jackson missed a bit of time during the teams Rookie Mini-Camp, but should be raring to go during this weeks continuation of OTAs...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor to get under way
2008-05-18 16:00:00
Back in February I ran a poll on whether this fan base thought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should have a Ring of Honor, 90% of the fans voted yes to the idea. Several of you have clamored to construct our own Ring of Honor? Well let?s do it. I think we should construct it as such: The organization only spans back to 1976, so rather than picking one player every 8 years as previously suggested, let?s pick player(s) from each decade (in other words segment it to the 70?s, 80?s, and so forth). I know a couple of you worried about having a Ring of Honor of over 50 strong, with a overall team record of (196-303-1) I don?t think we?ll have that problem, though I could be wrong. I?m open to criteria for the Ring of Honor as well, but I figured we would just go on statistics and fan recognition. If you want it more sophisticated we can do that. I wanted to preface this task with the fact that I?ve been a fan since 1996 (13 years old). Prior to that I was enamored with the Cowboys and 49er...

Report Card: Handing out Tampa Bay Buccaneer Draft Grades
2008-05-02 13:00:00
I've been dreading grading the Bucs Draft. It almost feels like homework in a way, so let me go ahead and get this out of the way.. Forget the teasers, I'm gonna throw it out there: The Bucs deserve an B+ for last weekends draft results. The Bucs solved their Cornerback question, added speed to the offense, and got guarenteed hog mollies for both sides of the line. First the obvious, Nobody has questioned Talib's ability, just his character and I think the two year drug-less period he's had proves that he has turned the page. Surely theres no guarentees, as we're all human and susceptible to relapses. At any rate, you could argue drafting Mike Jenkins over Talib, but they're almost one in the same and if you had to wager money, I'm sure you would bet Talib has the better athleticism of the two corners... A ton of fans were angered by the Bucs 2nd Round selection, many felt the pick was a reach. I too would have liked to see the Bucs move up to nab a more battle tested Receiv...

RB Kenneth Darby, WR Chad Lucas and OT Dennis Roland will attend the weekends events. The rookies will arrive in Tampa today and get their first look at One Buccaneer Place. No. 20 Presented by Buc'Em Aqib Talib Cornerback Kansas Man what a mind blower... I saw WR Devin Thomas on the cell phone and had his jersey ready to go, then Goodell says Talib and it was on... I'm not going to pretend like i know these guys better than our scouts and Monte Kiffin. If Talib is the guy, obviously he's the guy.. No. 58 Presented by Buc'Em Dexter Jackson Wide Receiver Appalachian State I gotta be honest, with Wide Receiver after Wide Receiver coming off the board, i had my doubts. I was depressed when DJax1 (DeSean Jackson) got taken two picks ahead of us (Damn you Philly). My confidence was restored however when DJax2 (Dexter Jackson) got drafted by the Bucs. He doesnt have that shifty ability most smaller WR's like him have, but he does have blazing speed. If you're not familiar with DJax he played on that same Appalachian State team that beat down the Michigan Wolverines and single handedly knocked Lloyd Carr out of a job (of course he had pretty much sealed his fate prior to that ball game). One of the Videos below is 9 MINUTES LONG, so you may want to grab some popcorn. The Appalachian "Ultimate Highlight" Video is a must-see. It's great to add a competitor like that to this ball club. I think in DJax and Aqib we have two athletes that are hungry. 2008-04-28 01:32:00
No. 83 Presented by Buc'Em Jeremy Zuttah Offensive Guard Rutgers I like the Bucs Pick, its not a pretty pick, but it provides depth on the line and we always need that. Arron Sears missed time at Guard last year and Luke Petitgout missed the entire year at Tackle. Zuttah can play both positions and helped Rutgers RB Ray Rice achieve the individual success he has...Checkout the Hog Mollie below... Are you kidding me!?!I would have liked a Defensive Tackle here, but you cant really argue with adding depth to the offensive line. Especially when you do it with a guy who's as durable as Zuttah. "I'm very physically mature but I'm only 21-years old," Zuttah said. "I'm strong, I'm fast, I think I'm physically ready. It's just how fast I can learn the system. That's also one of my strengths, my intelligence, so I can learn it quickly. I guess the speed of the game will be different, too." - Rick Stroud of the St. Pete Times Jeremy Zuttah, OT, Rutgers, 6'4, 290 A very experi...

With the 115th Pick in the NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select....
2008-04-28 01:32:00
No. 115 Presented by Buc'Em Dre Moore Defensive Tackle Maryland Apparently the Bucs traded their two 5th Round Picks (145 & 158) to the Cowboys for their 5th Round Pick (153) and 6th Round Pick (175)... And of course they swapped 4th Round Picks straight up. Should be interesting as DT Red Bryant just went off the board and we shall see him when we play the Seahawks.Again, its hard to question Monte Kiffin. I was hoping to see them pick up a Red Bryant type as he seems to have more fight in him, but Dre Moore is certainly capable of contributing on the lineDre Moore, DT, Maryland, 6'4, 311 Moore is a quick and powerful defensive tackle who could play inside in a 4-3 or end in a 3-4. Is raw in his development and will likely have to start out in a rotation before transitioning into a starter?s role. Will have to get much nastier. - New Era Scouting
