2008-07-14 00:25:00 Personally I am not a fan of the Gypsy Tart, but my other half is. Wikipedia has the following to say: A gypsy tart is a type of pie made with evaporated milk, muscovado sugar (though some varieties include light brown sugar), and pie crust. It originates from East Kent, Isle of Sheppey in England. The tart is extremely sweet and is, for many people, associated with school dinners. Although most will know the version of gypsy tart made with evaporated milk, it can also be made with condensed milk in place of evaporated milk. This makes a firmer and even sweeter tart, with a darker colour. This is an example of the nice food at The George Inn at Trottiscliffe.

All crispy and crunchy with fresh blackberries scattered around!Well the school year is almost over and I have absolutely no idea where the time has gone. As of Friday my days are no longer my own. Clear Unscented Glycerine Soap1 Tablespoon Liquid Soap1 teaspoon Liquid Glycerine1/2 teaspoon Apple Fragrance Oil**2 Drops Red Food Color1/2 teaspoon Ground CinnamonDirections:- Melt soap in small pan over low heat or in a glass cup in the microwave.- Add Liquid Soap and glycerine and stir gently but well.- Add fragrance, color and cinnamon.- Stir and let stand a couple minutes, just enough to start tot hicken so when you stir again the cinnamon will be more evenly distributed.- Pour into molds. Last night we were out for a bring and share dinner, and this gave me a good oppurtunity to make something a bit more "summery", I decided to make a pudding. As we had some pastry at home I decided I would make a fruit tart. The filling is a mixture of cream cheese, icing sugar, vanilla and gelatine (to make sure it set). For the fruit topping I went to Leicester market to see what looked good and found some nice strawberries and blueberries. So I set to work, first I rolled out the pastry and lined a pastry tart dish, I then blind baked it, left it to cool, spread a thin layer of dark chocolate across the bottom and poured in my filling. The dough is from the same batch as the Blackberry Tart, which is a chocolate version of the Lemon Meringue Pie dough.The original ganache recipe comes from a Fine Chocolate Tart, a decadent dessert from the pages of Tarts. I made the original recipe in the fall, but tweaked it this time to fit my vision.
