Pretty Pineapple Tarts
2009-10-04 06:39:00
As much as I love blogging, I do think sometimes that I have TOO many blogs! LOL!! I sometimes forgot which blog I need to update and how long ago it was that I updated this blog for instance. I also sometimes forgot which blogs I have optimized for traffic and SEO. That is why any tools that makes my easy like free traffic generator or free seo software is always welcome. Take away the hassle of thinking too much for sure.. lol! That being said.. perhaps more food pictures like this pretty pineapple tarts would bring the traffic in and perhaps even put me on the front page of google search? Lol!! Pineapple Tarts.Aren't they the pretties thing!? Yummy too!!Cheerio...First Two Commenters Gets FCSB Point from LadyJava..Thanks for all your commentsDebbieMariuca
Chocolate Truffle Tarts
2009-09-07 07:04:00
Hanging out on Twitter late at night when I can't seem to figure out where sleep went has very very good outcomes. I get to talk to my favorite people as if they were just a few feet away and beside geeking out with Jen, ZenChef and Mark, I also get to talk gluten free with Shauna of Gluten Free Girl . I love the way she is gently coaxing me to push my own boundaries. These Chocolate Truffle Tarts for example are the pure result of an idea that Shauna unkowingly planted in my head one late night. When we are having large gatherings of friends and family like this weekend, I always try to accomodate everyone's needs, especially when it comes to gluten free and low salt recipes since they directly affect me too. After weeks spent reading about my diagnosis last year and ways to eleviate the symptoms, I realized that a gluten free diet could help a lot with genetic diseases and there was not much around as far as treatments were concerned. Our diet is 90% gf to start with except when ...
Goat Cheese And Fresh Berries Tarts
2009-08-10 06:14:00
Bill says that he is over the whole "birthday week" idea and that he's been feeling that way since his last 30th birthday. Good thing I am not because as it gives me the opportunity to post about these Goat Cheese and Berries Tarts that were part of his dessert table a couple of weeks ago. Actually, I made these on three separate occasions prior to his birthday. Each time they disappeared as fast as the donuts. They are good. They are pretty. They are a breeze to make. Simple pleasure. Sexy too. Indeed, as soon as I put these on the table the other day, our dear friend T. exclaimed "sexy tarts for SPOC!" And this is where I have to backtrack a little and explained why the entire room bursted out laughing, except Bill.A couple of years ago, my dear husband was voted "SPOC", short for Sexiest Professor On Campus, by the College newspaper. (makes me wonder if the writers of Star Trek had something else in mind). That evening, Bill walked through the door furiously waving the paper in t...

Ginger Fig Streusel Tarts With Honey Lavender Ice Cream
2009-07-14 07:32:00
Thank you guys for toasting Barbara with us in my last post. I know it meant a lot to her and it did to me. (And yes, those were my feet!). It's been a tough journey for her and I often told Bill I'd give my last shirt to get on a plane and try to be of some help (laundry, groceries, you know the drill), crack up some stupids joke or just hold someone's hand. He understands. He also adds that he doesn't like when I travel, saying that I always prepare some good dinners for him to eat while I am gone, I rarely leave dessert. Wrong. Cookies, I always make cookies. This past weekend however, when I went to Veronica's in Virginia to teach what we now call a Pastry Bootcamp (a nice one), leaving four of these Ginger Fig Streusel Tarts with some Lavender Honey Ice Cream. He ate the coffee-chicory macarons. Go figure. He actually did it (unknowingly) right as we had plenty of the tarts to celebrate our 11th anniversary. Still feels like we are within the first 5 years. Very much loving...

English Tea, Bakewell tarts and chocolate muffins
2008-04-14 18:06:00
I have just read an article from the BBC that a new guide states that in England afternoon tea is "enacted daily" apparently at 4:00 we all stop, get out the tea pot, delicate sandwiches and fruit cake!I'm sure anyone who is English will find this amusing, as obviously the author of this guide has never been to England, or at least not in the last century. As an Englishman I would like to make it clear that this is nonsense, I and no one I have ever met does this. However last Saturday for the first time ever we had tea...A traditional English tea refers to a meal rather than the drink, although a proper tea pot is essential. It traditionally involves delicate finger food such as cucumber, salmon or ham sandwiches, small cakes often feature as do larger cakes such as Victoria sponge or a fruit cake. Scones are also very popular and are usually served with jam and clotted cream. Although very unusual in homes now, afternoon tea is still a feature in grand hotels such as The Ritz.For...

Prune Filling (Lekvar) for Cookies, Tarts, or Homentashn (Hamentashen)
2008-03-23 19:28:00
Plum illustration from Knoop's Pomologia, Nuremburg, 1766, reproduced from Pomona's Harvest by H. Frederic Janson, 1996For this filling, I specifically bought prunes with the pits in, because I recall reading or hearing that you get more flavor if you cook stone fruits with the stones. I can?t really tell if this is true or not without doing two batches of prunes side by side (perhaps this is a good project for peysekh, the joyous holiday currently hurtling towards us like a barn owl who has just spotted a dormouse). In order to give the correct measurement for pitted prunes, I weighed the pits after I removed them. I would only do this for you. Prune Filling (Lekvar) 12 ounces (about 2 cups) prunes with pits (or 10 ounces pitted prunes) 1 bay leaf (optional) grated orange and lemon zest (optional) part of a vanilla bean (optional) 1 tablespoon slivovitz (optional, but really nice) to 1 cup honey or agave put the prunes in a saucepan with 3 cups of water and the ba...

First of all, please accept my apology. If you all you like is pictures, feel free to stop reading. But, if you like me and you trust me, and you like mint and chocolate and cheesecake, I suspect you'll keep reading! Forgive me, dear fans, for I have committed a sin in the blogging world. The following recipe has no picture. I'd like to think that's because this dessert is just so darn good that each one was gobbled up before it had a chance for a photo shoot. Seriously, just take my word. And make your friends and family happy next time you have a party to go to :)Crust:1/4 cup butter, softened1/4 cup sugar1 egg3/4 cup flour1/3 cup cocoa powderCream butter and sugar together in food processor. Pop Tarts: Oops! Britney Hits Hollywood Without Her Underwear While Her Dog
2008-02-21 20:40:00
Pop Tarts: Oops! Britney Hits Hollywood Without Her Underwear While Her Dogs Run Amok in HotelLOS ANGELES — Britney Spears is proving yet again that she can't help but show off her private parts to the public. AP The songstress stepped out of her Cadillac Escalade en route to the B2V Borrelli-Vo Salon in West Hollywood on Tuesday evening, willfully displaying her uncovered crotch to the packs of paparazzi. "She didn't care at all," a pap on the scene told Pop Tarts. "People were warning her to pull her dress down, but she just ignored them and made her way inside the salon." (Hey, maybe she was getting a Brazilian wax and it was just easier this way...) Spears' panty-free fetish first hit the headlines in December 2006, when she was photographed out and about with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan without underpants. However, this isn't the only deja vu regarding Brit's behavior. The pop princess seems to h...

Hemp Seed Filling for Tarts, pastries, and Homentashn (Hamentashen)
2008-02-17 19:50:00
Well, of course I am beginning to think of poppy seed fillings, even if we have (blessedly) an extra month to think about them this year, and it seemed to me that the qualities of richness, mild bitterness, and just general seedlikeness (seediness?) that makes mon, or poppy, such an ideal pastry filling all work in favor of hemp seeds too, maybe even more so. My very first hemp seed filling is so delicious that I will be making many more, possibly a hemp and poppy mosaic sometime. Erin from The Skinny Gourmet will be hosting Kalyn?s Weekend Herb Blogging, where you will find all manner of plant-based sweetness. Hemp Seed Filling for Tarts, pastries, and Homentashn (Hamentashen) 2 cups hulled hemp seeds 1 cup milk (in this recipe, you can easily substitute soymilk or coconut milk) cup agave (or honey) 4 cardamom pods 2 pinches salt Zest from one largish lemon, grated or microplaned Toast the hempseeds in an iron skillet to a light golden brown, stirring constantly. Do n...

Tarts renege on deal with Premier League shagger
2008-01-27 21:13:00
The world of professional football was plunged into chaos today after two harlots defied paid contracts to keep quiet about their casual sex with international swordsman Ashley Cole. ?It really has shocked players all over the country. They are used to big money contracts, and they expect these slags to honour their deals and keep quiet,? said a spokesman for the Professional Footballer's Association. ?What worries our members even more is the inevitable tabloid puns about their unimpressive tackle.? Egg Tarts
2007-12-07 03:33:00
Egg tarts! Egg tarts! I didn't know there are so many people who like egg tarts. Don't be shock on what I'm going to say. I have never try one in my (going to be) 36 years of my life. Hmm ... maybe just the crust. It's one of my husband's favourite so I had to try to do it since he did get me the oven after all. He is forever saying that how the crust and the egg custard must be like. I had no idea. I just followed the recipe that comes with the oven. The day he arrived home from work when I made the egg tarts, I showed him one and asked him to try. He didn't look impressed with the outlook. He commented that the egg custard looked too pale (because there's no custard powder here) and then he sunk his teeth into it and chewed. I asked, "So?" No answer. More bites and chewing and still no answer. Now that the whole tart is gone and still no answer. Hmmm ...After he cleared his mouth, he said, "It's very good! Not the best but good enough." Aww ... Cranberry Nut Caramel Tarts
2007-11-22 01:13:00
Instead of pumpkin or pecan pie this Thanksgiving, we are going to have these little beauties: Cranberry Nut Caramel Tarts....Oh Yeah!!! Cranberries, pistachios, almonds all stirred in a creamy caramel and baked in little shortbread tart shells. Not that we do not like a little pumpkin or a little pecan here and there, but these we could have over and over and more...Not only are we going to enjoy warm out of the oven, but I am also bringing them to Jeanne, who is hosting this month Waiter There Is Something In My....Tart!I made these for the first time years ago at the restaurant a few days before Thanksgiving. I had to make the usual required pies for T-Day but I was really itching for a change. Everybody was getting in the holiday mood and I thought a little cranberry dessert would be a good idea. For some reason, our produce guy had misunderstood our order and we got twice the amount of cranberries we needed. The chefs dropped off a box by my pastry kitchen with a little "Have F...

These seem just right for the season, with the warm flavours of cinnamon with walnuts; complement Fall beautifully! Very nice as a gift, and great with tea. You can use pecans too if preferred, which is what the original recipe uses. I believe that Moravian tarts belong to the Pennsylvania Dutch bouquet of recipes. Cobbler-ish Blue Bran Peach Tarts?
2007-10-11 05:04:00
Alight, so I have no idea what to call this but it sure was good! I used fresh peaches (left the skin on) but I like them to stay firm. If you want a “mushier” more cooked peach, you may want to blanch them or use canned. 1 package VitaMix™ Muffin Mix BlueBran (click here to purchase) 4 fresh peaches (canned would work too) 2 egg whites 1 ½ cup of water

Well, here it is! The long anticipated (hehe) roundup of this month’s installment of Hay Hay it’s Donna Day. This was my first time at hosting a food event and I really have to thank Barbara (this event’s creator, and resident cook at Winos and Foodies) for holding my hand throughout the process. I really ...
Lemon Almond Blueberry Tarts

" Chaos"... that's the word that comes to my mind when I think about these little tarts. They are not difficult to make, although they will take you some time if you make everything from scratch, but the results are really worth the effort. What I meant by "chaos" is all the noise, movements, tribulations that took place around them while they were getting their shiny coats and lemon dots.I decided to make my tarts for Hay Hay It's Donna Day, created by Barbara of Winos and Foodies and hosted this month by Sarina of TriniGourmet this past tuesday. My day was pretty skimpy on training appointments so I figured I would have ample time to make these and a couple of other pastries for orders. I started with the dough right before I left for work, inspired by one that did the rounds of the French bloggsophere last year. A sort of easy and fast mock puff pastry, which originaly calls for "petits suisses" as a moisture source but I'll say "hot dang!" (because I love them) the day I find...
