Confined to a ’safe house’ somewhere in New Delhi and shut out from the world except for phone calls and emails, Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen will ring in 2008 in a no man’s land of fading hope, despair and crushing loneliness.

The famous infamous-Taslima Nasreen
2007-11-24 09:23:00
This is a story of a doctor from Bangladesh, whose life is much a hell these days, she in India right now, becoming famous is not very tough, because these days, becoming famous means, getting noticed, just go against the stream and people will notice you. No other talent needed. Just tell me, a doctor, who has a 9 to 5 job and gets back to her home and sleeps to wake up for the next day job, writes something awkward again her own religion and gets noticed, do you think it is still tough to be famous ? This woman is listed amongst top authors of the world, this woman is being honoured every single day with an award and some awards are just made to honour her. He banned book Lajja in 1993, gave her a mark in the world of her authors but the fame is not easy, specially such kind of infamous fame. I have read the book just to know if why it got banned, and i really wanted to slap her for her words used in the book. Today, I read the newspaper that govt fears more than her about her bei...
On Kolkata rally and Imam's threat to Taslima Nasreen
2007-08-18 17:45:00
At the rally in Kolkata the Imam of Tipu Sultan mosque reportedly fixed a reward on Taslima Nasreen's head.An Imam asked her to leave the country within a month while another gave her just a fortnight. But the statement of Noor-ur-Rahman Barkati, the Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque, deserves to be condemned. We surely don't need such Imams. Indian democracy gives us ample freedom to stage demonstrations and protests, submit memorandums to the officials and politicians, approach courts and other forums if you feel that somebody has insulted you.The promise of cash reward to a person for executing the death threat is absolutely intolerable. And when it comes from an Imam, it is really unfortunate.Haji Yaqub sought publicity through a similar announcement sometime back. But he was a politician unlike Barkati, who is a religious person. Also, such statements tarnish the image of the community, which is under intense media scrutiny.A section of Muslims appear baffled by the criticism of such...

Lajja: Taslima Nasreen Assaulted In Hyderabad
2007-08-09 22:26:00
Let me say this first: I never have had any genuine interaction with Hyderabadi Muslims till a month ago. I have been friends with Hindus from the city who studied at my University but never a Muslim. So the experience of living and interacting with them in the past month or so has been an ...
MIM protest at Taslima Nasreen's press conference
2007-08-09 18:26:00
The MLAs of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) created ruckus at the press conference of fugitive Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, who had reached Hyderabad for the release of her book.Rather than assault on her, as many reports described the incident, I would call it ruckus. Mercifully she didn't get injured. As far as Majlis is concerned, it has done little good to add to its existing 'reputation'.Worse was the reaction of MIM leaders when they were contacted by news channels as they failed to put their point across (even though their behaviour was not at all justified). The MIM chief Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi kept repeating that the 'attack' was justified but failed to say what exactly was his problem with Taslima's writings. Most of his MLAs, except one, who spoke to channels, were simply irrational and had nothing to say that could in any way justify their rage and express their point of view. At least, the leaders of Shiv Sena (which MIM seems to be emulating to an extent...
