This deal makes Tata motors a company which can mfg. cars for the common man right upto the ultra rich. This has catapulted Tata Steel to the fifth position in terms of mfg. capacity. There have been numerous smaller buyouts by Tata steel. Tata Tea is not behind. Tata Motors: A Bumpy Ride
2008-03-12 16:44:00 By Priya Nigam Over the last 12 months, Tata Motors shares have been acting like my daughter on a sugar high. Jumping up and then sliding down in the blink of an eye. Tata Motors is part of the Tata Group, which is India?s largest private sector conglomerate with companies like Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals and Tata Power under its umbrella. Tata Motors has recently been in the limelight for its Nano. India's largest carmaker unveiled the Nano (also known as ?the people?s car?) at the Auto Expo held in the capital earlier this year and then in Geneva earlier this month. Priced at Rs1 lakh, the car seems to have huge sales potential. On one hand, the car targets the market that would have otherwise purchased a motorcycle. Although a premium motorbike would cost only half as much as the Nano, people may go that extra mile to get into a four wheeler. On the other hand, the four-seater minicar would be an attractive buy for those who would have otherwise bought the Maruti 800 (the cheap...

Have Rs 1,199? You can own a Nano
2008-02-19 05:10:00 As Tata Motors up to launch the world's cheapest car Nano later this year, financing companies, including ICICI Bank, SBI , HDFC Bank and Saraswat Bank, are busy charting out attractive finance schemes to woo the buyers. The Mumbai-based Saraswat Bank is offering a loan of Rs 70,000 at a monthly installment of a mere Rs 1,199 spread comfortably across 84 months or 7 years. The rate of interest is 11-11.5 per cent, which is cheaper than a two wheeler loan. The Nano has already driven these companies to look beyond the two-wheeler market, which has lately shown a huge slowdown. Banking officials say that a sizeable segment of the 6.5 million (sales as of last financial year) strong motorcycle buyers are expected to shift to the Nano. The comparable financing structure for a premium two-wheeler forces you to pay more every month through it is for a shorter period of time. For instance, a Bajaj Pulsar 220 is sold at Rs 92,675 with an equated monthly installment (EMI) of Rs 2200 for a p...

Tata Motors Q3 net dips but beats f'casts
2008-02-02 12:08:00 MUMBAI (Reuters) - Tata Motors Ltd, India's top vehicle maker which this month unveiled the world's cheapest new car, reported a 3 percent drop in quarterly profit as high interest rates dented demand for its trucks and buses. While better roads and tougher emission and safety rules are boosting demand for trucks, high borrowing costs are preying on buyers and rising commodity prices have increased costs for auto makers. India's central bank this week kept rates steady, raising concerns that vehicle loan rates will remain firm. "Margins will be under pressure in the medium term due to overall high commodity prices and competitive pressure," Tata Motors Chief Financial Officer C. Ramakrishnan said. Tata Motors sold 143,979 vehicles in October-December, just 1.7 percent more than a year earlier. Tata, India's third-biggest car maker after Maruti Suzuki and South Korea's Hyundai Motor, was recently picked by Ford Motor as the front-runner to buy its premium Ja...

2008-02-02 12:00:00 MUMBAI (Reuters) - Tata Motors Ltd, India's top vehicle maker which this month unveiled the world's cheapest car, reported a 3 percent drop in quarterly profit as high interest rates dented demand for its trucks and buses. On a consolidated basis, the company's net profit rose nearly 9 percent to 6.55 billion rupees, from 6.02 billion a year ago. Ford Motor Co recently named Tata as the front-runner to buy its premium Jaguar and Land Rover brands. The estimated $1.5-$2 billion deal could be completed early this year.
