Yes it?s true! Tata Nano video!
2008-06-06 07:23:00 Our great Indian connections provided us with and exclusive video showing Tata Nano testing on the road. Thanks to our source. The Tata Nano was launched earlier this year at the Delhi Autoexpo and once again in Geneva for the European audience. The Nano was never photographed testing until now, where a watchful Indian has video taped a test car without any camo. The base model sans the bells and whistles was doing its test runs in the famous Pune-Mumbai express way during the incident. One can get a close look at the car in action from this video. With land disputes at the originally proposed plant location, Tata had taken counter measures to smoothen things out and avoid delays in introducing the car in the market by deciding to manufacture the first batch of cars from another plant. A couple of months back, this plant had set about rolling out test vehicles so that the state and efficiency of the production line could be assessed and necessary changes can be made before the ma...

Production of Tata Nano is supposed to go on sale in October
2008-05-14 07:33:00 Indian carmaker Tata chose a site in Singur, India for the plant that would make the Nano, the world’s cheapest car. Not long afterward, eleven petitions were filed in the Calcutta High Court stating that the purchase of the land for the factory violated the Land Acquisition Act of 1894. It was alleged that the ...
Land dispute could delay production of Tata Nano
2008-05-14 02:53:00 Land dispute could delay production of Tata Nano The $2,500 Tata Nano is supposed to start production later this year, but a land dispute could delay the car's production, a new report finds. India's Supreme Court requested a reply from Tata Motors and the West Bengal government as to why 'fertile multi-crop agricultural land' was being used for the Nano's production plant. The Calcutta High Court allowed Tata and the West Bengal government to acquire the land, but a new petition has been filed requesting the immediate halt of the project. The petition claims the land use goes against the Land Acquisition Act of 1894, according to the Times of India. The facility — which is located in Singur, India — is slated to begin production of the world's cheapest car in October. However, a hearing has been set for July, meaning the Nano project could be delayed, giving other automakers time to catchup with Tata's microcar.
Tata Nano Car: World?s Cheapest Car By Kate Cadbury
2008-05-09 22:55:00 In the world of Automobile, Tata Group’s again set a benchmark by made the car name TATA NANO, The world’s cheapest car of rupees 1 lacs. Indian clock maker to challenge Tata Nano with electric car
2008-04-15 21:57:00 The Tata Nano made headlines as the world's least expensive new car and it's now facing a new challenger that's battery powered. The Ajanta Group is better known for making clocks but they also build electric scooters and bikes. The Gujarat-based Ajanta wants to get into the car business with an electric vehicle that's cheaper than the Nano. Ajanta group director Jaysukh Patel seems to think they can just transfer their electric bike technology to a car and produce 70 percent of the parts in-house, saving money. That seems a little unrealistic - even in India - unless what they are planning is closer to a neighborhood electric vehicle than a real car. For a price under $2,500 the car will almost certainly be relegated to lead acid batteries and very short range. It will be interesting to see how Ajanta's new EV compares to the Reva G-Wiz which is also built in India. Gallery: Tata Nano: The People's Car[Source: Times of India]
GM working on small car to challenge Tata Nano
2008-04-06 23:55:00 We told you recently about a car looking very much like last year's Chevy Beat concept being spotted testing in China. We still don't know if that car was actually a GM prototype or copy from one of the countless Chinese automakers who have no qualms about using the design departments of other, more established automakers to produce their wares. However, earlier this week Automotive news reported that GM is actively working through their Chinese operations to develop a much lower cost car for developing markets. While the Tata Nano is obviously a stimulus to develop a cheap entry level product, GM is apparently unlikely to go quite as cheap as Tata's $2,500 entry price. The current Chevy Spark (the "design" inspiration for the Chery QQ) sells for $5,650 in China right now and engineers at SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co. have been tasked with cutting the production cost of the next generation model by half. That car, built on the same Global minicar platform, as the Beat is expected...
Indian bike makers working on natural gas options in response to Tata Nano
2008-04-01 17:13:00 Motorcycle, scooter and moped manufacturers in India are worried. Since Tata announced their ultra-cheap Nano, the two-wheeled industry is abuzz with worry that the populace will quickly abandon their old single-track vehicles for the safety and convenience of a four-wheeler if the price points get too close. This is a rational concern, and it is exactly why Tata's created the Nano in the first place. In an effort to persuade buyers to stick with their bikes, the major manufacturers in India, including Bajaj, Honda and Kinetic, are all working on natural gas options for their various offerings. According to this article, each of these companies has contacted Energtek, a leader in absorbed natural gas (ANG) technology for help in implementing the conversion process. The advantages to using the ANG lie primarily with price, however there are also eco-benefits to be had, as natural gas burns cleaner than other fossil-fuels. We have to wonder, though, what would stop companies like Tata...

Ready to buy TATA Nano Online???
2008-02-24 15:17:00 Conventional automobile wisdom says that a car dealer is always required to complete the transaction and a web based option can be just an information window. It can never really be an alternative to a ' brick-and-mortar' dealer. But TATA Nano has already broken a similar conventional automobile wisdom by coming out with a car which is priced at 1 lakh Indian rupees ($2500). It may as well break the conventional automobile wisdom once more. As per the recent blog post by TATA Nano team, it is seriously considering online car sales option and is asking the comments from people to help them design the right service. All the market pundits(including me) expected the People's car to be revolutionary not only with regard to its manufacturing but also with regard to its distribution model. But I never expected the e-commerce to be a part of that distribution model. One More Nano-lution. Hats off to TATA Nano Team!

If successful, the Tata Nano will likely push up gas prices
2008-02-06 04:10:00 I'm not quite sure why I put "likely" in the headline to this post. I can't think of any scenario where the ultra-cheap Tata Nano sells millions of units in India and China and other "developing" countries but doesn't have an effect on gas prices in the rest of the world. I mean, if a million more people need to buy gas (or more gas, if they're used to scooters) to get around, that's a lot less gas that's available to the people who use it today, no? This possibility is the subject of a CNN story that quotes oil analyst Peter Beutel as saying that, "We'll get into a situation where we'll have to compete with them for gasoline, $4, $5 a gallon, who knows how high we could go." Beutel's estimate is that $4 or $5 gallons of gasoline could come to the U.S. much sooner than 2015. Considering that the 50+mpg Nano is kind of a gateway car and that larger, thirstier vehicles will be offered to the people who use then outgrow the Nano, then what?Related: VIDEO: Live reveal of the $...

Why blame Tata Nano for impending traffic mess?
2008-01-25 14:24:00 I’m little late to write about Tata’s small car (people’s car) NANO. You’ve seen it already, read about it in detail in newspaper and other media, bloggers have contributed their part by blogging about it. While everyone appreciated Ratan Tata’s efforts in making dream come true for millions of middle class families, they also raised serious concern that soon we’ll run out of space on our roads and a traffic nightmare is unavoidable once Nano hits the road.In this post, I do not aim to write about NANO or traffic jams it may create or about people who are on their toes to buy this car. Instead, I wish to give you a different perspective over the fact that everyone is blaming NANO for impending Traffic nightmares.Argument: When Nano hits road in large numbers there’ll not be any space left to drive or park our vehicles. My perspective: Why are we holding common man and NANO responsible for traffic jams? Buying a car is a lifetime dream for millions of people and I feel ...

2008-01-25 08:30:00 Mr. Ratan Tata?s ?dream project?, the one-lakh rupee car, Nano generated immense interest from eager visitors at the Auto Expo 2008 which was held in the Capital. For many, it was the first halt to see the little Nano bring alive their aspirations of owning a car. The dream vehicle has caused much stir in the Indian automotive market, where it is aimed to rank between high-end motorbikes and the compact car segment. Ever since its launch, the little wonder has hogged the limelight and made prominent headlines. 2008-01-21 21:33:00 The US economy might not be in its best times, but the growth and revolutions in emerging markets like India are breaking all barriers! The latest to hit the ever-growing Asian and European markets is the sensational Tata Nano - the no-fuss, fuel-efficient energy car that has fueled every Indian's dream to own a car.
