MS Office In The Cloud As BlackBerry Teams Up With Microsoft: Boost In Prod
2012-01-31 07:19:00 BlackBerry Makers Research In Motion (RIM) has collaborated with Microsoft to launch a Cloud based Office Productivity Suite. Simply titled Microsoft Office 365, the service will help Users & Admins alike to better manage the corporate data on the Smartphones & Servers. Blackberry who recently recovered from the blackout is in no mood to upset its present customers & is offering this service free of cost! Of course the customers include only who have subscribed to the stand-alone Office 365 suite or the standalone Exchange Online offering. However, the good news is that no matter what the data plan one uses, Consumer (EDGE) or Business (BlackBerry Internet Services [BIS] or BlackBerry Enterprise Services [BES]), one can still purchase this service which is presently not priced. The new cloud-based service will do what iPhone owners have been doing for quite some time. Synching Emails, Documents, Calendar & Organizer data. However, RIM has an ace up it sleeve with Bl...

Rangers Among Teams Interested In Brad Hawpe
2012-01-07 05:10:00 10:10pm: The Rangers are one of the teams interested in Hawpe, reports MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. Hawpe is seen as insurance should current first baseman Mitch Moreland (also a left-handed batter) suffer a setback in his return from wrist surgery. A Rangers contract would represent a homecoming for Hawpe, who was born in Fort Worth. 7:35pm: Brad Hawpe could be close to signing a minor league contract with one of three clubs that have shown interest in the 32-year-old, reports MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. Hawpe underwent Tommy John surgery last summer and says he is healthy and ready to return to the field. Hawpe signed a one-year, $2MM deal with the Padres just over a year ago but struggled badly in 2011, hitting just .231/.301/.344 in 216 plate appearances for the Friars. San Diego unsurprisingly declined its $6MM club option on Hawpe for 2012, instead buying out the contract for $1MM. Hawpe hit .288/.384/.518 with 99 home runs between 2006-2009 as member of the Rockies. He h...

Potential Teams For Remaining Designated Hitters
2012-01-06 18:25:00 Johnny Damon, Vladimir Guerrero, Hideki Matsui, Magglio Ordonez and Luke Scott highlight the list of unsigned designated hitters. Jorge Posada and Manny Ramirez are also out there and Bobby Abreu and Alfonso Soriano could become available in trades. Some would say free agent first baseman Prince Fielder is well on his way to becoming a DH, but he?ll presumably sign as a first baseman. The market for designated hitters tends to favor buyers and this year is no exception. Here's a look at the American League teams with possible DH openings: Rays - When the offseason began, Andrew Friedman spoke about his intention to add offense without sacrificing defense. The Rays have an opening at DH, the one spot in the lineup where defense doesn't matter at all. The Rays will likely add a bat or two before Opening Day, perhaps a DH. Blue Jays - Edwin Encarnacion finished the 2011 season strong and projects as the Blue Jays' DH heading into 2012. Orioles - The Orioles appear ...

NFL 2012 Playoffs: AFC Playoff Teams and their Super Bowl Odds
2012-01-05 07:14:00 The online betting crowd is getting geared up for the playoffs and the price per head sports experts are applying Super Bowl winning odds to each playoff team. While the NFC is considered to be the strong favorite to win it all in February, the AFC has some strong teams that will make this year?s Super Bowl fun to watch. Let?s take a look at the AFC playoff teams and compare their Super Bowl odds to their chances of winning the big game. Baltimore Ravens (6 to 1) What makes the Ravens go is its defense and running back Ray Rice. The problem for the Ravens is that if one person on the defense seems off for a game, then the whole defense has a problem functioning. Baltimore still possesses one of the top defenses in all of football, and the Ravens have won a Super Bowl with a much worse offense than what it has now. The pay per head bookie experts seem to think that the Ravens have an excellent chance to win the Super Bowl this year. If Baltimore can hold together and play as a u...

2012-01-04 15:03:00 If you look at all the managers/coaches that have won championships in Chicago, there’s one characteristic they all had in common. No, it wasn’t that they had superior talent or that they made timely game time decisions that won the ball game… they all had mustaches. The power of the mustache. Chicago is known for... Read more »

Billy Beane getting frustrated with financial gap between teams
2011-08-24 16:37:00 We’ve mentioned Billy Beane as a GM candidate here in the past. The question has always been whether he would leave Oakland, the place where he became an icon and his scrappy, cleverly constructed Oakland teams regularly gave the Yankees all they could handle — with just a fraction of their payroll. An article today... Read more »
Which teams would be hurt most by a lost NBA season?
2011-07-07 09:46:00 With the owners taking a hard lined stance on economic issues, insisting that they flip the entire revenue model on its head, there stands a good chance the NBA will be without basketball this year. If that’s the case, who are the big losers?
White Sox ability to lose to bad teams put in horrifying and unwelcome spot
2011-06-21 08:46:00 (Quick question, do you use the possessive ('s) for Sox? Is it a plural or a singular? Do any rules apply seeing as it's...you know, not a real word?) Any refutation of the Cubs-Sox series having lost all it's luster can start with the capacity (or at least as close as we'll see for a while) crowd, the game leading the night on SportsCenter (thanks for that, Ozzie), and how the events of the single night become fodder for damning statements about the season.

Why do White Sox Handle Good Teams, Get Handled by Bad?
2011-06-02 19:50:00 The Boston Red Sox were everyone's preseason champions, and up until the last few days, one of the hottest teams in major league baseball. It was the 27-31 Chicago White Sox who cooled them off, sweeping the BoSox in Fenway. This makes it seven in a row white over red. Chicago is starting to own Boston in the same manner the Minnesota Twins own them. Or how the New York Yankees own the Twins in the postseason. The White Sox season has now been upgraded from nightmarish train wreck to mediocre with some rays of hope. They've passed up the Kansas City Royals for third place in the AL Central, and are currently within striking distance of reaching .500...

Bulls vs Hawks 7pm on TNT - 6% of teams come back from 0-2
2011-05-04 12:46:00 An 0-2 deficit isn't an impossible hole to climb out of, but it's close enough that Chicago knows they certainly don't want to have to buck the odds. Start throwing around whatever cliches you want to describe the importance of this game, for Chicago, it's true. Losing to Atlanta would be a humiliating way to end an otherwise great season, so Chicago, who's only hit their A game once in the playoffs, better step it up....

Diamond Ruminations: Should MLB Add Two Playoff Teams?
2011-04-25 02:10:00 After years of talk about expanding the playoffs to include more teams, MLB commissioner Bud Selig said last week that the league is seriously considering expanding the playoffs to include two more wild card teams (one in both the American and National Leagues) as early as next season. This move has already been met with a mixture of positive and negative emotions, and it will be interesting to see whether or not the league actually adopts this change. Under the proposed system, the two new wild card teams would play the wild card winner in either a winner-take-all game or in a best-of-three series. The winner of that series of games would more than likely play the top-seeded divisional winner,...

Other teams interested, but for Looper it's Chicago or bust
2011-03-14 14:03:00 The question is -- where does Looper fit? With Wells and Cashner pitching well, they seemed to have taken the lead for the last 2 spots in the rotation...It's uncertain as to whether Looper would settle for a long relief role. Looper is shooting for the rotation but he's keeping his options open for now. He's certainly shown himself capable of playing either role in his career and that works in his favor.
Silva being scouted by other teams
2011-03-13 07:26:00 Bruce Levine says there were as many as three scouts from the Nationals to watch Carlos Silva pitch Saturday. The way Silva has pitched this spring you have to wonder how bad the pitching market is that teams would be interested in the struggling righty. Levine reports the Yankees have also been keeing tabs on Silva and they would be able to easily absorb some the $11 million left on his deal. However, it has also been reported that the Seattle Mariners are still contributing $5.5 million towards this years salary.A NL scout told me they had interest in Silva last season, but he had too much money left on his deal at the time. The scout was impressed with the...
What we know about CIT and CBI teams
2011-03-11 05:32:00 40 teams are going to make the postseason after the NCAA Tournament and NIT select their fields. That's because there are two other small postseason events, the CIT and the CBI. Both are relatively new and both come with some special rules. For instance, the CIT only takes mid-major teams and the Great West Conference receives an automatic bid. The CBI has a three-game championship for the title. It makes for some interesting stuff. Last season I chronicled all the bids as they were announced on Selection Sunday. Well this season things have gotten underway a little bit earlier. So after the jump is everything we know about the 24-team CIT field and the 16-team CBI field according to Twitter...

2011-01-16 21:06:00 The AFC Pro Bowl roster broke in a new member this season. It's the Brandon Lloyd, the NFL leader in receiving yards this past season. You're joking right? The same Brandon Lloyd who used to say what's up to me when we'd pass each other on the quad walking to class at the University of Illinois. The same guy who was the subject of one of my first ever newspaper assignments at the Daily Illini. That Brandon Lloyd?? Bears match up well against all the NFC playoff teams
2011-01-03 06:10:00 Bears fans shouldn't be worried about losing to the Packers. The Packers had to play their absolute best to get into the playoffs. Although the offense didn't do much against the Packers, the defense looked like their got their swagger back against one of the best offenses in the league. The Bears, on the other hand, didn't have to open up their playbook and give their potential playoff opponents something else to game plan around.

Good Teams Bounce-Back, Can The Bears Do The Same?
2010-12-13 22:58:00 Ironically, it was after New England's embarrassing outing against Cleveland that they went on their winning streak which lead to our team's demise yesterday. The bad part about our loss, is that we got ripped in our own house. This is not something you simply don't turn the page from. You take it personal, and do as the Pats did "take-out" on any one in their path. The NY Jets (after getting beat even worst by NE 45-3), have sunk even deeper into the doldrums of despair with another loss yesterday to a lesser opponent - the Miami Dolphins. The Jets lost 10-6, and still showed "no-sign-of-life" on offense. Will the Bears go in the same direction? I've mentioned tests all season...
Bears Named Among The Top 3 Teams In The NFC By Schlereth & Golic

The top teams (in the NFC) are the Atlanta Falcons at 9-2, the Saints at 8-3, and the our Bears at 8-3. Yes Bear Fans, we are now considered to be among the top echelon teams in the NFL. Losing Teams in Bowl Games? How Frighteningly Realistic a Scenario
2010-09-23 22:39:00 Did you think the idea of expanding the NCAA Tournament to 96 teams was backwards and just plain stupid? Worried about having too many mediocre teams undeservedly in the postseason? Well, it looks like that's about to happen, this very bowl season in college football. It's bad enough that 6-6 teams have been getting into bowl games, and getting there by scheduling creampuffs to pad their record. But now it's going to get even worse: we could realistically see a few 5-7 teams in the "postseason." I told you the bowl system has WAY over-expanded, the BCS is a backwards system, and every year we don't have a playoff system, the terrorists win. According to the San Diego Union...
Notre Dame 2010 Position Previews - Special Teams
2010-08-18 10:40:00 Notre Dame Special Teams - an exercise in continual disappointment. Every now and again some uniquely talented position player blesses his talent upon the punt return game, but the passing fancy leaves us feeling more empty than ever before. If only we had waited for a punt returner to prove, and commit himself to the position, we'd enjoy the richness and fullness of a real---aahhh!!! Catholicism is invading the Special Teams preview!
