Ohio State Loses, Ted Ginn Jr. Emerges Unscathed
2008-01-08 07:13:00 Last night LSU finally put an end to a college football season everybody would like to forget (well, everybody except LSU, Appalachian St., and that guy from Missouri who finally felt the sweet touch of a woman after the Tigers beat Kansas.) Les Miles’ team played very well, and in doing so they erased the memory of some poor performances and left people with a good feeling about the recipient of the National Championship trophy. I am thankful for this because it means the college football chatter will finally give way to less hackneyed topics (such as college basketball). Here are three other things I’m extremely thankful for: –The highlight of the game: Chris Rose asking Les Miles “It’s been an amazing year…what did you learn about your kids that you didn’t know about them back in August?” and having Miles respond “nothing.” Rose had been working on that question for five weeks. After careful consideration those were the words he chose to pref...

In His Own Words: Ted Ginn Jr.
2007-09-13 23:27:00 In the latest issue of Sports Illustrated, Ted Ginn Jr gives a brief interview with SI's Andrew Lawrence. The interview is short, but it's still interesting nonetheless, and is part of an SI feature called "A Rookie's Tale." Here are some highlights: (On spraining his ankle, being forced from the game, and seeing Ohio State fall 41-14) I'm a grown man, and what happened happened. You move on. I could have come in [to the NFL] as a national champ, but it means nothing. You're back to being a freshman, a rookie. (On Dolphins fans booing when he was drafted at number 9) I've been booed before, and I've gone through way bigger things than being booed. The team has been great to me. I've known Cam for many years. I've known receivers coach Robiskie for years too. I've known Chris Chambers damn near my whole life. I don't see having this type of family, this type of support, anywhere else. (On his academic difficulties...

Draft Fallout - Ted Ginn Jr.
2007-05-12 17:16:00 "And with the ninth pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Ted Ginn Jr." With those words, tens of thousands of Dolphins fans across the country yelled at their televisions. Ha! The selection of Ted Ginn with the #9 pick was probably the shock of the entire draft. Even putting aside the Dolphins' other needs, Ginn was hardly considered the second best WR in the draft. He's extremely fast and agile but slender and fairly light at 180 lbs. Scouts doubt if he has the build and the mental toughness to be a top notch NFL receiver. He's able to outrun most defenders and can make the difficult catch, but he's not going to be making the tough catch in traffic or in the end zone. What do the Dolphins know that we don't?: Dolphins WR Ted Ginn His quarterback is either Daunte Culpepper or rookie John Beck or possibly Cleo Lemon, nobody knows right now. He also finds himself at #3 on the depth chart, behind Chris Chambers and Marty Booker so i...

Ted Ginn Jr.
2007-04-29 01:36:00 Here is a scouting report that Sean of Around the Oval, SB Nation's Ohio State blog, wrote for me back in February: Strengths Speed, speed, and more speed. Ted Ginn was the fastest person on the field every time he stepped on it. He was a state track champion in high school, and there was talk of him training in hopes of trying to qualify for the Olympics when he came to Ohio State. That may have been so much hyperbole, but Ginn is without question one of the fastest players in football. He accelerates quickly enough to get great separation from corners and to render initial pursuit angles useless on kick returns, and when he hits top speed, he is virtually impossible to catch. He has not shown incredible agility, but he can certainly make guys miss, and with his speed, that may be all he needs. In short, he's the stereotypical "threat to score every time he touches the ball." His work ethic should also be noted, I feel. He came to Ohio State as a cornerback, and practiced at t...

Ted Ginn Jr. -- Reader Review
2007-04-10 17:00:00 Would Ginn Look Good in Orange and Blue? Plain and simple, what would your reaction be if Denver ended up selecting Ted Ginn in the first round? The consensus I get at other boards is hardly positive, but I'm wondering what ya'll think (didn't want to hijack K TempesT's thread too much). Basically, I would not be opposed to Ginn at all, especially if Branch, Moss, etc. were either unavailable or no longer necessary (Jenkins, Rogers, etc.). I really like what he brings to this team, both as a returner and as a receiver. PRO'S: 1. "Speed at receiver." Ginn would bring a new skillset to the receiving corps. Marshall, Walker, Rod, and Stokely are all strong intermediate and short-route runners. While both Walker and Marshall are capable of making the deep reception, they are often contested because they don't have the true long-speed necessary to separate. Ginn would give us a true field-stretcher and open up a lot of other options, on the f...

Professor's NFL Draft Pick #7 possibility (Part I): Ted Ginn Jr.
2007-02-28 22:36:01 The latest ESPN mock draft has the Minnesota Vikings selecting Ted Ginn Jr. from Ohio State with the 7th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. If this projection is true, here is what we will be getting:Ginn is an early entry this year. He is 21 years old and is ranked by Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN as the second best receiver, after Calvin Johnson who won't drop past pick #3, and is ranked #8 on Mel's famous "Big Board." Here is what Mel has to say about Ted Ginn Jr.: "Takes a backseat to no one in the speed department, brings a big-play dimension to the wide receiver position and also the return game. Here is the Scouts Inc profile for Ginn:Ted Ginn Jr.WR | (6'0", 180, 4.35) | OHIO STATEScouts Grade: 96Flags: (B: BULK/SIZE) Lacks size/bulk for positionStrengths: Possesses world-class speed.
