Binayak Sen Maoist links - Tehelka’s Half Truths
2008-03-03 23:41:00
Well we didnt have to look far on who is batting for the Maoists when this story from Tehelka surfaced in conversations, courtesy fellow bloggers on the Indian National Interest. The story is about Dr. Binayak Sen from Raipur Chattisgarh who has been languishing in jails since May 2007 after being repeatedly denied bail from courts all the way up to the Supreme Court on charges of aiding Maoist Terrorists. While the ethics of the extended detention are open debate the legality it must be assumed is on sound grounds with even the Supreme Court denying bail as recently as Dec 2007. This post is not about Binayak Sen or the ethics of his detention, will leave that subject to fellow bloggers to address. This post is about Tehelka’s Half Truths in the story on Binayak Sen which goes to expose how Tehelka is one of many above the ground close communist outfits that have been batting for the Maoists. The story of Binayak Sen hinges on the arrest of one Narayan Sanyal who also goes by...

Tehelka, Journalists Lead Indians to Redeem Their values
2007-11-03 23:10:00
Tehelka, the intrepid news magazine did what the Indian government should have done in the past five years. The nation owes a debt of gratitude to the editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal and reporter Ashish Khetan who took enormous risk to procure evidence on video tapes about the planning of the genocide perpetrated by the Gujarat state government in February – March 2002. The tapes also record admissions of suppression of evidence and bribery by the public prosecutors to protect the guilty. The culpable Gujarat state government (still in power), got away with it, because at the time their party (BJP) was also in power at the center in Delhi. In 2004 elections for the central Parliament, the Indian electorate exhibited maturity by defeating the repressive sectarian coalition in favor of a secular coalition dominated by the Congress party. However the Congress has been reticent to bring the Gujarat government to the bar of justice. It is afraid of being falsely tarred by the fascists,...

Terrorism is no '-ism' of any Religion | Tehelka and Gujarat Violence in th
2007-10-29 22:20:00
"Last night a friend from Baroda called. Weeping. It took her fifteen minutes to tell me what the matter was. It wasn't very complicated. Only that Sayeeda, a friend of hers, had been caught by a mob. Only that her stomach had been ripped open and stuffed with burning rags. Only that after she died, someone carved 'OM' on her forehead. Precisely which Hindu scripture preaches this?" - asks Booker prize winner novelist, Arundhati Roy in her article, Democracy: Who is she when she's at home?NO, none of the Scriptures of Hindu Religion, one of the most tolerant and inclusive religion on the face of earth preach violence and killing thy Neighbor. Yet those who fuel their violence and hate, use religion over and over again to claim their own agenda."The post-Godhra Gujarat riots in 2002 has been considered as one of the grisliest communal strifes of post-Independence India. This religious strife was labeled thus because of alleged collusion of the administration that literally gave a...
Tehelka Expose: The Political Context
2007-10-29 07:18:00
Guest Post by Bhupinder Singh Despite the hoopla surrounding the Tehelka expose of Narendra Modi?s role in the Gujarat pogrom of 2002, it is unlikely to have a negative fallout on Mr Modi?s immediate electoral prospects- indeed it is likely that it will on the contrary provide a surge in favour of Modi, unless there is ...
" Jai Shri Ram" the password to kill
2007-10-27 22:04:00
Name: Narendra D?modard?s Mod? Age: 50 something Nationality: Indian, Gujarat Claim to fame: The engineer to 2002?s Gujarat massacre February 2002, allegedly an angry Muslim mob torched a train which resulted in the killing of 58 innocent Hindu passengers which gave birth to what they call; ?the worst Hindu Muslim clash? in the history of India. According to the official statistics; 254 Hindus and 790 Muslims were killed, with 223 more missing. Thousands of cases are still pending in the Indian courts and state inquiry committees which are related to these riots. Their is nothing new about Hindu Muslim riots; these riots are tactfully created by any one of the two extreme parties to meet their political and social desires. But this incident is quite different from past incidents that involved the clash of the two religions. First of all the tragic scale of the devastation is monstrously huge and it puts a big question mark on the secular claims of the biggest democracy in...

Tehelka expose on Gujarat Riots - Media Manufactured Sensationalism
2007-10-25 19:45:00
Tarun Tejpal and his pack of “sting meisters” are at it again. This time in a brazen attempt at queering the pitch ahead of the Gujarat Polls. It is clear that the stakes in Gujarat are very high and there is a vast left wing conspiracy to do to Narendra Modi in 2007 what they ...

2007-10-25 19:16:00
A shocked nation watched in disbelief the revelations about Gujarat riots on Television, it is time Modi is charged with conspiracy and murders.Leaders, and if not leaders, then individuals and NGOs must get case registered against him, if not through police, then through private complaint in the courts, in form of PILs and must get these bloodthirsty killers pay for their sins against humanity. So that never again any group of politicians could dare to plot such killings.1. Narendra Modi had given free hand for three days to VHP, Bajrang Dal activists to kill Muslims across Gujarat.2. Babu Bajrangi, Madan Dhanraj Chawal killing tens of Muslims in cold blood in Ahmedabad including a pregnant woman. Such hate just because she was a Muslim!3. After cutting MP Ehsan Jafri's hands and feet they then phoned Home Minister Govardhan Zadaphia, We have done it, now manage the rest and save us'.4. Arvind Pandya says Modi is hero of Hindutva and talks of bombing Muslim residentialities. Dyn...
Let a Diamond Cut My Soul - Tehelka
2007-07-04 07:05:00
Tehelka, The People's Paper mentions Sommelier India in an article talking about the proliferation of high end magazines in India. To quote, "Examine the impact of just one category of these heralds of hyper consumerism. In the last five years, no lifestyle magazine has produced an issue without at least one column imploring you not to get those wines wrong when serving mutton curry (What, no ortolan?) Now we even have Sommelier India, a magazine devoted to wine. Is it surprising that wine sales have grown at 25 percent per year since 1998?"
