Grilled Teriyaki Chicken (Gluten Free)
2008-04-11 14:08:00
One of Michael's favorite meals is a simple Asian-inspired stir-fry. We usually make this meal fast and frugally using a frozen package of "stir-fry" vegetables, leftover meat from a previous meal, and quick brown rice. We rely on this meal at least twice a month, and for me, it satisfies a craving for foods I used to order at Chinese restaurants in my old gluten filled days. For a new twist on this old favorite of ours, I decided to make a teriyaki marinade for the chicken, which I would later grill instead of adding to the stir-fried vegetables.Grilling the chicken, instead of adding it to the stir-fry, really brought out the flavors of the teriyaki marinade. It also gave the dish a delicious new presentation!I think this marinade would also be excellent on salmon steaks, tofu, or beef!Grilled Teriyaki Chicken2 Tablespoons olive oil2 Tablespoons sesame oil1/4 cup lemon juice1/4 cup gluten free, low sodium soy sauce1 teaspoon ground mustard2 Tablespoons brown sugar1 Tablespoon bl...

Easy Teriyaki Salmon Skewers with Cucumber Salad
2008-02-26 03:45:00
My sister, Rebecca, is crazy for fish. Fresh fish, canned fish, frozen fish—she can’t get enough. I’m looking forward to the day she visits Iceland—I’m sure she’ll return with tasty tales of her encounters with one of their stinky specialties, rotten shark. (I know you’ll read this at some point, Becca, so I also have to make fun of your fondness for canned oysters. To quote your 19-month-old nephew, when he is in need of a diaper change, “P.U!”).By contrast, I began life with a distinct aversion to aquatic edibles. My turnaround was gradual (a fishstick here, a salmon cake there), but my lack of fish affection worried me, especially when I started getting more serious about cooking. This was due, in large part, to my boyfriend of the time, who insisted I would never be a real gourmet unless I learned to love all fish and seafood, from the mundane to the bizarre (fish eyeballs anyone?).My choice was clear. Given that my mother’s “Oriental” tuna casserole still...

We often have Asian nights where I will make 3-4 different dishes I did one last weekend and this was one of the dishes I made. Breaded lamb cutlets, Teriyaki chicken drumsticks, Spicy honey and garlic q
2007-10-01 13:58:00
I like doing what my son calls picky nights where I make a few dishes and put them all on the table and everyone can just help themselves. Sometimes I do quite extravagant nights others very simple. I do everything from Thai nights, to Japanese nights, Tex Mex, others are just a bit of this and that.Last night I just made something that requires very little effort, although there is some marinating time, after that it in can just be thrown in the oven and forgot about until cooked. The only thing that I did extra was I had 4 lamb cutlets left from another meal so I breaded them and cooked them up to use. Anyone of the recipes below can be made as a main meal or as an appetizer except the lamb it is better if you cook this as a main.Teriyaki Chicken DrumsticksThis recipe can also be made with chicken wings which do work better if making as an appetizer.MarinadeChicken Drumsticks1 Cup of teriyaki sauce1 Tablespoon peanut oil11/2 Teaspoon sesame oil3 cloves garlic, crushed1 red chili s...

Teriyaki Turkey Burgers / WHB
2007-07-18 03:23:00
Another nod to ground turkey, could you be any more versatile?! Lately, I don't even have any of those summertime cravings for a real beef burger because I've been getting so much satisfaction from my turkey burgers. I've already gone southwesters with cilantro turkey burgers, Mediterranean with my Greek turkey burgers, and Italian with my pesto turkey burgers. Tonight brings us somewhere into Pacific, perhaps, with teriyaki turkey burgers! All these different herbs going into the turkey burgers also make them a great example for Weekend Herb Blogging, this week hosted by The Chocolate Lady from In Mol Araan. For these turkey burgers, I originally planned on just using cilantro, but seeing my basil plant getting so large and *gasp* neglected, I decided to throw some basil in as well. After all, I have had the pleasure of tasting basil in some Asian-style dishes, and though that usually happens to be Thai basil, I figured that the Italian kind would work ok too. Besides, I could n...

Teriyaki Salmon with Stir Fried Bok Choi
2007-05-29 09:33:00
I tried this recipe Teriyaki Salmon with Stir Fried Bok Choi a few days ago and not only is it protein packed it looks great and tastes delicious and is very low in calories. I get annoyed when people tell me they have to eat foul tasteless food or live on shakes and weight loss nutrition bars to lose weight it simply is not true. The other excuse that I get is I don't have time to cook real food which is why I just grab a burger or a pizza when I get home late from work.
Teriyaki Glazed Pork Cutlets
2007-05-13 16:37:00
Teriyaki sauce is much easier to make than most would think. I do agree, it may come across as rather silly to trouble yourself in making a sauce so easily available in supermarket aisles. "It's as ridiculous as making your own ketchup!", a friend of mine once exclaimed. Nonetheless, I'd like to tell all my dear readers that it's dead simple; it calls for only 4 ingredients (sake, mirin, soy, sugar), and takes at most 30 seconds to make! Some might be put off at the thought of finding sake and mirin althogether, but truth be known, sake can actually be found at your local bottle shop, and mirin at any supermarket. Eureka! Teriyaki sauce goes with anything.. absolutely anything: steaks, chops, fish, prawns, vegs.. Take a minute to make up a little batch of this and it will keep in the fridge for weeks. Whip it out at any time to season grilled meats or spruce up stir fries. See, cooking IS easy when you have versatile sauces like this on hand! Teriyaki SauceBasic ratio:3 tbsps s...

Teriyaki Wraps
2006-10-07 04:39:01
