Sachin Tendulkar - Master Of Test Cricket
2008-10-18 05:38:00
India?s Sachin Tendulkar became the man to score the most runs in test Cricket overtaking Brian Lara of West Indies. Also hitting his 50th test Cricket half century, Sachin Tendulkar and India had two reasons to smile. In the ongoing test series against Australia, When Tendulkar came to bat, he needed 15 runs to beat Brian Lara?s highest runs in test Cricket world record of 11,953 runs. Scoring 88 in 111 balls, Sachin Tendulkar now stands at a whopping 12,027 runs and an average of 54.17.Tendulkar, when asked about his knock and world record said?I?m quite pleased with the knock, when I went in we?d lost three wickets in no time, so it was extremely important to have a partnership. I was disappointed because we had targets and we thought, especially after those crackers went off (on getting his highest runs in test Cricket World Record), we?d have to focus on our game and continue batting for a long time,? Tendulkar said. ?The reverse swing with the old ball was different to the new ...

India rise to second in ICC Test Cricket Rankings
2008-01-28 13:53:00
A draw at the Adelaide was not enough for India to square the four-Test series against Australia, but the effort combined with win at Perth Test has lifted Anil Kumble and co. two places to second place in the latest ICC Test Championship table.   India replaces Sri Lanka at the second spot with 111 points, two more than the South Asian neighbours followed by South Africa.  India had entered the series in fourth place, just behind South Africa and Sri Lanka.   Australia, which started the series on 143 ratings points, is still out in front by a distance despite losing two ratings points over the course of the series.  With just four ratings points separating second-placed India from fifth-placed England and plenty of Test cricket to be played over the next few months, reshuffling of the positions is very much on cards.   England will be the team that will get the first opportunity to take a shot at Anil Kumble's side and can jump...

Test cricket gives me shivers: Yuvraj
2007-12-10 06:32:00
For Yuvraj Singh it was the one opportunity he couldn?t let go so easily. Regarded as India?s best batsman in the one-dayers and Twenty20 cricket, the left-hander has found it really hard to break into the Test team.So when he finally got his chance after nearly 18 months, he made sure he made the most of it. It was Pakistan once again who suffered at the hands of the elegant left-hander as he smashed a magnificent 169 in the third Test in Bangalore on Saturday. The 25-year-old later revealed that he was nervous at the start as he walked in to bat with India in trouble at 61 for 4.?I was very nervous when I went out, I have never been a confident starter in Test cricket because I haven?t played Test cricket,? said the left-hander.?Test cricket does give me the shivers. But I enjoyed the innings very much. I went out with positive thoughts. I have been batting well, and I told myself that I just needed to be confident and back myself,? Yuvraj added. When asked what calmed his nerves, h...

75 years of Indian Test Cricket

It’s 75 years to the day since India made their entry into the Test fold. It was a glorious summer day in 1932 when CK Nayudu walked out to lead a bunch of novices against England at Lord’s. India’s Test debut, at Lord’s on June 25, 1932, started in dramatic fashion when they reduced a ...
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and test cricket
2007-06-08 15:51:00
Mahendra Singh Dhoni-Special, Part 5MS Dhoni and test cricket I have already written 4 posts on Dhoni but all were his praise. But going towards his game in test cricket, it doesn't seem he has the potentiality of gaining it. I know he is a great one-day player but I am sorry to say that Dhoni is a poor test player. This is proved his test records. He has played 17 test matches and has scored 810 runs at an average of 33.75 with a highest score of 148. He has scored 1 century and 4 half centuries. But that hundred was on a lifeless pitch against Pakistan in 2006. Almost all batsman had played brilliant in that match. If we remove the inning then his average is just about 28. With that average how can he be told a good test player. His recent form too is not good in test cricket. India should play two different wicket-keepers in test and ODI. Dinesh Karthik is a good test player. He should play as a keeper in tst matches and Dhoni should be dropped from test. When players like VVS...
Shahid Afridi and test cricket
2007-05-28 07:45:00
Shahid Afridi special, part 3Shahid Afridi and test cricketBeing a very agressive player, one might think that players like Shahid Afridi are useless in test cricket as test is the longer version of cricket. But Shahid Afridi has proved himself to be a important member of Pakistan cricket team not only in ODI cricket but also in test cricket. Afridi doesn't change the style of his game in test cricket but plays same type of game which he plays in ODI due to which his strike rate in test cricket with the bat is 86.13, the highest of any player in test cricket. Afridi made his test debut in October 22,1998 against Australia in Karachi. He has got few opportunities in test cricket compared to ODI but his performance in test cricket seems to be better. Lets see the batting and bowing of Afridi in test cricket.Batting bowling Matches: 26Innings: 46Not out 1Runs :1683Highest score: 156Average : 37.50Strike rate 86.13100's : 5fifties : 8fours : 216sixes : 50Matches:26Runs : 1640Wickets :...
