So without further ado here's my choice - EmEditor. This editor does the four things I demand in an editor. It opens very large files quickly Does not cutoff long lines Supports Unicode fully Scrolls quickly no matter line length or file size I have found very few text editors that can do all four things. For instance, the text editor in Visual Studio 2008 does not meet these requirements (it cuts off long lines). Others like NoteTab Plus and PS Pad come close but fail on one or more points. Of course EmEditor does much more like syntax highlighting, clickable URLs and regular expressions, but those are all nice to haves. However, this is a long and complicated job that nobody will pay me to do. As a result, I’m going to keep a list of the problems that cause me to switch away from a certain editor. This at least will stop me switching back and forwards between editors – not because they’ve improved, but because I’ve forgotten why they were bad. The first entry goes to PSPad, which treats underscores and dashes as word-separators, so when selecting text, ‘ab-sol_utely’ looks like three words.

Whether the Tiny MCE buttons (bold, italic, link, block quote) were missing or the visual editor itself doesn?t show up. Most of the time, the problem occurred after upgrading to Wordpress 2.1 or later versions. I wasn?t really concerned since I don?t use the visual text editor. When I upgraded to Wordpress 2.1.2, I tried enabling the visual text editor, to check if it works. I found out that the Tiny MCE buttons were missing and even though the visual and code tabs were present, nothing happens when you click on either tab. It was weird and never happened to me before.
