Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin win The Amazing Race 12
2008-01-27 08:28:00 "Newly Dating Couple" Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin were revealed to be The Amazing Race's twelfth-season winners during last night's finale broadcast of the CBS reality series."I can't even believe it... I'm really speechless," TK told host Phil Keoghan after he crossed the Finish Line with Rachel. "None of this even seems real. It's kind of freaking me out."Rachel, a 23-year-old florist and business owner, and TK, a 22-year-old substitute teacher -- both of whom reside in Huntington Beach, CA -- were the first team to reach the race's Finish Line in Anchorage, AK and claim the $1 million grand prize."This whole things was such a crazy roller coaster with so many ups and downs," said TK. "To do it with Rachel, I think our relationship has only grown through this whole thing. And for that, that's more important than any of this for me.""Father/Daughter" team Ronald and Christina Hsu finished second."He knows this is a dream for me to be on this amazing adventure," said Chri...

TAR 12.11 recaplette, TK and Rachel win "The Amazing Race 12"
2008-01-21 04:06:00 If nothing else, it's nice to have "Amazing Race" champions who don't have to be spun to make them seem palatable. Completing a revitalized season of the series, new daters TK Erwin and Rachel Rosales won "The Amazing Race 12." The serene team arrived first at Girdwood Airport outside Anchorage, Alaska. The Roadblock task proved key for the victory as Rachel completed the task of gathering the correct combination of ten objects representing the ten previous TAR12 legs ahead of fellow competitors Christina and Nicolas. ----Most of the final episode consisted of competitors attempting to catch father/daughter team Ronald and Christina. On finding out that the team would travel to an outfitters store in Anchorage, Alaska, the pair looked online in advance to discover the outfitters' street address for their eventual taxi driver. The insightful maneuver gave Ronald and Christina a jump on the other teams. The team functioned in almost complete unison, in marked contrast to most of thei...

"The Amazing Race 12" finale tonight!!
2008-01-20 23:52:00 After waiting several months longer than necessary while reruns and the "Viva Laughlin" fiasco played out on CBS, "Amazing Race" fans have had to wait only an additional eleven weeks to determine a winner of the series' twelfth run. Tonight, we will learn if this battle of generations for a shared million dollar prize goes to the redeemed father Ronald with daughter Christina, laid-back younger daters TK and Rachel or the ultimate upset of politicially incorrect grandson and grandfather Nicolas and Donald. ----"The Amazing Race 12" has easily been one of the most successful runs of the reality series. After a lackluster received All-Stars run last spring, this fall and winter's return to new players and new relationship dynamics has revitalized the program. Outside of two holiday weekends, TAR12 ratings have rivaled or exceeded ratings for all other runs except "The Amazing Race 7." Generating the same ratings for tonight could be an extra challenging endeavor against NFC Champion...

"The Amazing Race 12" finale live blog!
2008-01-20 19:32:00 LIVE BLOG!!! REFRESH FOR UPDATES!!!----7:37 p.m.: Welcome to my totally unofficial live blog of "The Amazing Race 12" finale. Accurate spelling is optional. :)CBS is airing rerun "60 Minutes" stories dealing with global warming / climate change under the title "The Age of Warming." This is an old Nielsen ratings trick, Since it's not actually being called "60 Minutes," the ratings hit opposite championship football won't be counted against the show's season average. Cute, huh?If "The Amazing Race 12" takes a ratings hit against championship football though, it will count against the show's season average. Not so cute, huh.----7:41 p.m.: In all seriousness, having a global warming lead-in is a heck of a choice. To my knowledge, TAR has never referenced this issue. It's just as well considering questions would be asked about the carbon footprint left by the global production of the series.---- 7:46 p.m. As a degreed meteorologist myself though, I know just enough to be scared to...

TAR12 ratings downturn to normal levels
2007-11-12 21:18:00 Fast national Nielsen ratings were decidedly more mixed for the second episode of "The Amazing Race 12" as the show was unable to sustain the strong ratings of its season premiere. This week's airing hit a preliminary 3.1 Nielsen demo rating in the 18-49 age group, well down from last week's football-inflated 4.2 but still notable as the top CBS mark for the night. The show's overall audience level was down to a preliminary 10.5 million, well off from last week's record setting season premiere.----One wishes that the TAR12 episode had been able to retain more of its large debut audience. It is somewhat disappointing that the 2nd episode ratings came in closer to TAR: All-Stars levels than last fall's higher rated TAR10.TAR's ratings decreased in a year to year comparsion by about 5 to 10%, not great news but a fair dropoff in comparison to many other programs that have dropped by larger percentages. In that context, the numbers that came in were still likely on the positive sid...

TAR12 audience confirmed as premiere record
2007-11-06 22:36:00 The final Nielsen ratings for "The Amazing Race 12" debut indicates that it achieved the largest audience ever (13.7 million, adjusted downward from 13.8) for a premiere episode of the series. TAR12 also achieved the race's largest premiere demo rating (4.3, adjusted upward from 4.2) among age 18-49 viewers since "The Amazing Race 8" a.k.a. Family Edition."The Amazing Race 12" opener finished in 17th place for overall audience among all prime-time programs this past week, an excellent result.----Obviously, this past Sunday night's ratings are the equivalent of a track and field athlete setting a best ever time with the aid of a strong wind. The Patriots/Colts football supermatch won't be around in subsequent weeks to aid the series. Hopefully though, the positive feedback received thus far though is an indication that a significant portion of the initial audience will stick around for those future episodes. If that happens, a TAR13 would seem assured. Relevant links: CBS via The ...

TAR12 debut draw strong football-aided rating
2007-11-05 20:29:00 "The Amazing Race 12" drew a very strong viewer sampling for its debut, aided in large measure by a massive football spillover. The opening TAR12 debut drew an approximate 4.2 Nielsen demo rating among age 18-49 viewers, above all episodes of All-Stars and the vast majority of TAR10 airings in the Sunday slot. An estimated 13.8 million overall viewers watched last night's delayed telecast, a number beyond any level in recent memory.Even considering the strong lead-in off the football-boosted "60 Minutes" (5.0 demo, 18.8 million viewers), the fact that "The Amazing Race" held as much of the ad-friendly audience that it did is some credit to the program itself. As "Viva Laughlin" itself demonstrated just two-plus weeks ago, even the best lead-ins in the world can't help a program that can't help itself. ----All that said, CBS clearly achieved its objective of using its megahyped battle of undefeated football teams to draw viewers into "The Amazing Race 12." One of the problems with...

TAR 12.1: Ari & Staella eliminated
2007-11-05 04:01:00 My initial recaplette and thoughts for the first episode of "The Amazing Race 12."The usual rush of the race was inspiring as always. What wasn't as inspiring was the apparent one lane exit out of Los Angeles' Playboy Mansion resulting in a vehicular traffic jam before anyone even left the property. FYI, when exactly did the Playboy Mansion become mainstream, anyway? The luck of the race was evident early on as groups of mostly Los Angeles area residents led by daters Lorena and Jason navigated the area freeways to make the first British Airways flight out. A flight delay on arrival though cause the second Air Lingus flight to actually reach destination Shannon, Ireland minutes ahead of the first flight.----Both more experienced dating couples had their struggles. Daters Lorena and Jason briefly led but then Jason drove the team the wrong way to a destination, severely upsetting Lorena. The pair eventually pulled over for instructions which verified Lorena's point. Jason still bla...

"The Amazing Race 12" premieres tonight
2007-11-04 20:14:00 Just weeks after its premiere was still set for 2008, the wait for "The Amazing Race 12" premiere will instead end this night of November 4, 2007. The ludicrous "Viva Laughlin" is left as a shattered memory with CBS now counting on "The Amazing Race" to help restore ratings sanity to its Sunday night lineup.CBS hopes to hook viewers into TAR12 right away with promotional help from the afternoon's megahyped Patriots/Colts NFL matchup, largely expected to draw the largest NFL regular season audience in recent memory.----What "Amazing Race" fans and football fans alike will hopefully find tonight is an edition infused by youth and stripped of extraneous ga-ga. "The Amazing Race" teams will again be new while the frustrating non-elimination legs will be gone. The course for the TAR12 run is promised as tougher and more exotic than any in memory. The ability of "The Amazing Race" to revive its audience for this run and getrenewed for the next one largely depends on the shows' ability t...
