The Art of Flash Animation: Creative Cartooning
2007-10-03 18:29:00
# Publisher: Wordware Publishing, Inc. (March 25, 2007)# Language: English# ISBN-10: 1598220268# ISBN-13: 978-1598220261Book DescriptionThere are a number of manuals available on Flash, but too many of them get bogged down in details about ActionScript or interactivity. Frustrated with wading through such information in other Flash manuals, author/illustrator Mark Stephen Smith set out to make the book he wished he had when he started learning Flash. This book is both a practical primer in the fundamentals of classical, hand-drawn 2D screen animation and a basic introduction to Flash's expert handling of recyclable symbols that make independent, web, and television animation both more affordable and more efficient. It is conveniently divided into two parts. Part I is for those who are new to the terms and techniques of hand-drawn animation, character design, and storyboards. Part II covers scanning and digitizing artwork into Flash, as well as setting up scenes and symbols.Only reg...
The art of Nicole Eisenman
2007-10-02 08:33:00
Nicole Eisenman's exhibitions have taken the shape of installations of paintings, drawings, collages, assemblages, found objects and murals. Piles and spills, wall-bound works on paper and canvas, and things hanging from ceilings are there to make her subject matter and form enjoyable to the viewer. Her installations seem to be transported from the room of a very talented teenager whose moods shift effortlessly from nice to nasty.

Yoga meditation is the art and science
2007-09-30 18:50:00
Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India thousands of years ago. The Sanskrit meaning of Yoga is union which can be extended to imply union with God or Atman. Or in other words, it is the union between a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. Yoga encompasses the entire body, mind and spirit. The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. The ancient Indian scriptures perceived the physical body as a vehicle with the mind as driver and the soul as man's true identity. The physical body perishes in due course of time, the materialistic pleasures of the world are momentary but the human soul is permanent, it never dies. Yoga aims at integration with the soul which is the ultimate reality. The scriptures say that the goal envisaged by Yoga can be reached through four different ways - Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Karma Yoga. All the different forms have their own advantages and characteristics.Bhakti Yoga is the path o...

The Art Of Negotiation (Part 2): Dealing With Difficult Clients
2007-09-16 21:21:00
Clients are your golden tickets to attain success in your business or company, especially when they recurrently turn to you for business dealings. On the contrary, they can also be one of your greatest hurdles. This is more so when they project a hard-to-please attitude and get very demanding towards you. Your job right now is to cross this hurdle!Below are the seven steps to take when dealing with difficult clients:Step 1:Pay careful attention to your clients? criticisms and keep your cool when asking them questions. By doing so, you can easily determine the likes and dislikes of your clients and think of what you can do to meet their needs.Step 2:Do not intervene when your clients are talking, unless they become a little out of hand with their words. It pays to listen to them to the fullest. If they get quite harsh, courteously ask them to keep their cool and speak in a more calmly manner.Step 3:Note down the discussions you had with difficult clients and the measures you have unde...

9-11 Sculpture and The Art of Sculpturing Ourselves
2007-09-14 02:32:00
©2007: Vics MagsaysayDate: September 11, 2001. I woke up early that morning to finish the sculpture I was working on for almost two months. I was so excited the sculpture would be erected that day. All it needed was a coat of paint for the four pillars. It was around 8:30 in the morning when the first dab of paint was applied to one of the pillars. The color I chose? It was a dark gray. More than an hour later, I went inside the house for a glass of water. To my amazement, the TV’s volume in the living room was unusually loud. My mom and sister were shocked by the news: One of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York was burning. Soon after, another plane hit the second tower. It was a sight we could not forget—people plunging to their deaths to escape the burning building. Later on, the whole mass of the two towers crumbled from within spewing tons and tons of dust and debris. It’s unbelievable to see the icon of America’s financial might disappear in su...

#1 Hitchhiking - The Art of the Game
2007-09-13 02:39:00
Hitchhiking, or also known as “good old thumbing”, “hitching”, “autostop” (a term mainly used in Eastern Europe) or “thumbing up a ride” (a term I did not know before), is a great way of travelling around. I believe this mode of transportation to be so kool that I have decided to write a short tutorial about it (I could have written a whole book, believe me!).If you have been following my blog (click here for old posts), you would have noticed that I already have quite some hitchhiking experiences. I have been hitchhiking all across Europe, both East, West and Central Europe. I also hitched in England, Ireland, Russia, China and Mongolia. In retrospect, I would have loved if somebody would have introduced me to some of the fundamentals behind hitching when I started. It would have saved me a few days waiting on the side of the road with my proudly self-made signs. Unfortunately, there was not a lot on the Web and I did not know any hitchers, so I had to all figure a...

Learning the Art of Dodging and Burning
2007-09-11 12:29:00
There's a good tutorial written by Steve Paxton on how to use the Dodge and Burn tools in Photoshop to add some dramatic lighting effects to your nature & landscape images. Some may look at this as making a "fake" photograph, but in reality it's no different than what would have been done in a master printmaker's darkroom back in the days of film. I recently had an extended debate with some friends on this point; many who feel that an image is "fake" if its not "straight out of the camera". That's silly (though they're entitled to their opinions)! My take on it is that you need to accomplish as much in the camera as possible: set yourself up for success. Pay attention to your backgrounds, get your composition right, achieve proper exposure, and above all - capture the moment. But even after all of that, you can go from good to great by learning how to work in the digital darkroom of today: Adobe Photoshop. PS sometimes gets a bad rap, but just because PS is involved doesn...

Perfect The Art Of Small Talk
2007-09-08 16:45:00
Perfect The Art Of Small TalkLearn to leave a lasting impression...by Jennifer Good What is small talk? Some define it as meaningless conversation used to fill empty silences. I prefer to view it as an opportunity to make a lasting impression with the person you are talking with. If you're in a social situation where you need to make small talk, instead of dreading the useless chatter that usually goes on, strive to make dating contacts with interesting conversation instead! Rules of Engagement: First, avoid the typical conversational drivel that everyone else uses. Comments about the weather and such are a clear sign you have run out of things to talk about. Make yourself appear to be an interesting conversationalist by choosing topics that are of interest to you and the person you're talking to. Second, make yourself confrontable. People will be more receptive to having a conversation with you if you approach them with a smile and an easy manner. Above all things, be yours...
