2008-03-07 15:32:00 I was interested to read Ben Limberg's article on the BBC News web site this morning about how stressful email is becoming. It highlighted for me that spam continues to grow and it reminded me of my earlier article on this blog about the need to start tackling the phenomenon rather than hiding it. The BBC article suggests that around two million emails are sent every minute in the United Kingdom. The majority of reports I read suggest that spam currently accounts for around 95% of all email in circulation, so the BBC statement implies that an amazing 1,900,000 junk emails are sent every minute in Britain! Certainly, my own consulting practice's email logs have doubled in the last six months and I am pretty confident we are not getting that much more real email. 2008-02-06 02:38:00 Even though the date on this post is 2/5/08, I didn't actually post it until 2/18/07, due to my illness.The basic facts I can recall is that I ran with my friend for 25 minutes around 6:30 pm or so. It was 57 degrees or so (but with wind chill factor felt much, much colder!) & rainy. Hadn't been feeling good all day, so I skipped my solo run but decided that I could probably stick it out & run with my friend. A very bad idea, looking back on it. This record is by no means bad, or even boring, but if you're into the whole early Napalm Death sound, you should know exactly what to expect. There's a little bit of a punk rock edge to some of cool riffage and even some melody to some of the guitar work ("Gargantua" is a great example of both), but mostly this record is fast and faster. They remind me of the Hombrinus Dudes with a little more interesting guitar work. They especially remind me of the Hombrinus Dudes, though, because it sounds like they have split vocals (one being a deep growler and one that's more of a high-pitched shriek), but they only credit one vocalist, so I guess he's going back and forth, which helps keep this stuff interesting. Apple and EMI have announced that EMI is dropping DRM from its digital catalog, and offering higher quality to boot (256 kbps AAC vs. 128 kbps). It'll cost you 30 cents more per track (to $1.29) for DRM-less tracks on the iTunes store, but that's a price I'll gladly pay. It sounds like you will even be able to upgrade previously purchased tracks for the aforementioned 30 cents, and full albums will automatically come without DRM (with no price increase). I don't think I need to go into how huge this is. Full press release here. DRM-free tracks should start appearing in May.
