2009-07-12 18:24:00 It all started during the rainy season in my first year in Anyang. I was going to take my usual over-the-river shortcut while walking to Beomgye when I found that the entire footpath was submerged under rushing water. The Haguicheon (Hagui River) cuts from east to west around the southern base of Gwanak Mountain and meets the Anyang River, which eventually flows into the Han River and out to the Yellow Sea while taking a dip into North Korea. I used to do a lot of rafting in my teens and early twenties and even took an innertube down some rapids in the Appalachian Mountains. It’s my favorite outdoor sport by far. I’m a water baby. So naturally, I fantasized about taking an innertube and going down the Haguicheon to see where it went. Each year passed, and I postponed it to the next year. Pictured here is one of the two bridges at Istanbul, Turkey. These bridges are the only road (and probably rail) connection between the continents of Europe and Asia. I did mention on my previous post that they are building an underground/water tunnel, but I think that is still some years away from opening.

2008-04-15 00:11:00 Yesterday we were feeling very fine and had cooperative weather. Jeff, Lily and I decided to walk across the Biloxi Bay Bridge. This bridge was destroyed by Katrina and was finally fully functioning again last week, or the week before who knows for sure I was sick and haven't crossed the bridge in awhile. Now that it is complete, it is approx. 2 miles across acording to the odemeter on my car. There is a lovely biking or walking lane. This lane is on the side that allows bicyclists and pedestraians to see out to the open sea. It is a lovely walk. There were a lot of people out yesterday morning and we had a lot of fun.Jeff was concerned that Lily would not be able to walk that far and had me bring the stroller. 2007-08-25 16:40:00 The boat is the MV Cahaba owned by Warrior and Gulf Navigation of Mobile, AL. The pictures were taken by an amateur photgrapher named Barger. This happened in April, 1979 at Demopolis, AL on the Warrior River. Nobody was seriously injured and the boat continued to it's destination with the barges. To my knowledge, the boat is still in service. The bridge has since been replaced.TUGBOAT Do not try this at home. Remember, this is a professional captain.
