from Shelby to Dusty to American Music Club to The Carpenters
2009-03-13 13:21:00 World's Greatest Music writes...Your Lies and Leavin' should have been huge hits for Shelby Lynne when she was first signed to Mercury. She was kind of Norah Jones meets Duffy.Shelby's last record was a covers album of songs immortalised by Dusty Springfield, plus one new composition. You can hear tracks on Shelby's rather neglected MySpace site. One Dusty classic Shelby doesn't cover is No Easy Way Down, perhaps because Norah Jones also covered it recently. If you don't own any Dusty albums then get Dusty In Memphis - it's as good as everyone says.American Music Club also covered There Is No Easy Way Down, which gives me an excuse to post my favourite AMC track Johnny Mathis' Feet. In some ways AMC were a pre-cursor to the emo and Americana-tinged sound that is so prevalent in North American alternative music today (Arcade Fire etc).Come to think of it, American Music Club have great taste in covers - they also covered my favourite Carpenters song Goodbye To Love.Shelby Lynn...

2008-01-04 04:52:00 Your Lies and Leavin' should have been huge hits for Shelby Lynne when she was first signed to Mercury. She was kind of Norah Jones meets Duffy.Shelby's new album could be her most successful yet. It's a covers album of songs immortalised by Dusty Springfield, plus one new composition. You can hear tracks on Shelby's rather neglected MySpace site. One Dusty classic Shelby doesn't cover is No Easy Way Down, perhaps because Norah Jones also covered it recently. If you don't own any Dusty albums then get Dusty In Memphis - it's as good as everyone says (I guess it has been deleted in advance of being reissued as it's only available second hand on Amazon at present).American Music Club also covered No Easy Way Down, which gives me an excuse to post my favourite AMC track Johnny Mathis' Feet. The Carpenters at Christmas
2007-12-24 17:39:00 Forgive me a little cheesy nostalgic Christmas indulgence. Amongst my immediate family’s family traditions is the shamelessly white bread Carpenters Christmas Portrait album of 1978. We have heard this tape on a loop so many times that my brother and sisters have alternative lyrics (”It looks like snow and smells like snow”), profound questions (Is there a subversive message in the lyrics “Fill the bowl and roll out the barrel, have ourselves a fling”) and even a little choreography. This is not just a series of Christmas songs. It’s a complete album that sounds like a variety show of the ’70s variety with a little added Lawrence Welk white guys in red turtlenecks and black pants doing jazz hands. And seriously, Richard Carpenter is a talented music arranger. We heard rumor here and there that there actually was a Carpenters Christmas special with the songs on it. Well, thanks to the Internet, I have found that there indeed was one. And...
The Carpenters join the cabinet in the hunt for lost HMRC CDs
2007-11-25 23:01:00 I thought it was so kind of the carpenters to help the cabinet look for the lost CDs.

The Carpenters - (They long to be) Close to you
2007-07-10 07:26:00 The Carpenters - (They long to be) Close to youClose to you es una de las baladas más hermosas que haya escuchado. The Carpenters - (They long to be) Close to youWhy do birdssuddenly appear,Everytimeyou are near?Just like me,they long to be,Close to you.Why do starsfall down from the sky,Everytimeyou walk by?Just like me,they long to be,Close to you.On the day that you were born the angels got together,And decided to create a dream come true,So they sprinkled moondust in your hair of goldAnd starlight in your eyes of blue. That is whyall the girls in townFollow you,all around,Just like me,they long to beClose to you....

I Found The Carpenters Through Webbyman
2007-05-10 04:46:00 "Hey Webbyman, how are you today?". Today I visiting one of my friends. Really miss them to know how are they doing now. Browsing on his page looking for something interesting on the 70s Retrophilia pages. If you really notice, this man is very smart putting his advertising on his page. Good job my friend!Humm, there is no search box on his page (But I can really understand why there isn't any, really smart). So I try to remember what's the 70s groups or singer I love. The Beatles? Yes they are, but not today I guess. What else, something easy listening. O, I remember! My oldie favorite duo, The Carpenters. I love almost their songs. It's easy listening and quite cool enough to make my day better. They were blessed with a voice that will still be listened to. It is a gorgeous, expressive, warm, clear and timeless voice. There will never be another like them.Actually I was fell in love with this duo about 10 years ago, when my best friend brought me a compilation of a tribute to t... |
