2007-01-24 09:14:02 This weekend we watched The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Anne Hathaway. This was a very cute movie, especially if you’re a girl. The basis of the story is that a very normal, but intelligent young woman (Andrea) who knows nothing about fashion lands a job “a million girls would kill for” as the assistant of Miranda, the editor for the top fashion magazine in New York City. The movie pokes funs, and perhaps reveals some truth, about the brutality of the fashion industry. Andrea discovers being successful in her job means she has no choice but to give up time with her boyfriend, friends and family. Will Andrea follow in Miranda’s footsteps, with fame, fortune and success as her calling card? Or will Andrea learn that she does have the power to choose what is important in her life? 2006-12-09 03:07:03 This movie in itself does everything a movie, should do for it's audience.. The first time I caught this movie in theatre's I was blown away at how good it was... It's about life, It's about the dream, and It's about wanting to accomplish that dream and staying true to yourself while doing so... Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) has just landed a job " a million girls would die for".. But little does she know that her boss is the "Devil In Disguise". Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is one New Yorks most demanding fashion editors in the city.. and also the scariest person to work for.. But while being thrown numerous task that are impossioble to fulfill, Andy impresses her boss in a way where she become's her all time favorite assistant. It is so happen that here at Melbourne, our cinemas are always behind in terms of releasing movies. Hence, I might seem to be a bit outdated. There are lots of reviews about this movie by Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway already. Most of them are very positive indeed. For that reason, I wouldn?t write another review here. What I will do is select a few thoughts from people at rottentomatoes that fits my impression about this movie.A smashing success as a glimpse of the fashion world and as a depiction of a young woman's introduction to the ethical choices that form character on the job.The movie has a lot going for it: a privileged look inside the world of fashion journalism, a magical interlude in a storybook Paris, bright supporting performances by Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt, the likable presence of Hathaway, and, of course, Streep.Whether you're high on fashion hi-life or simply shopping at ...

The Devil Wears Prada
2006-09-29 00:18:00 I started reading this book knowing that I was going to see the film but gave up halfway through and thought the time invested in finishing was probably not worth it. And I am so glad I did. The movie, and the book for that matter, are great examples of pure escapism which can be just what you need sometimes. It is an easy film to watch and an easy book to read which no doubts accounts for its popularity. The only trouble I had with the transition from book to film is that Meryl Streeps character in the film shows some even tiny signs of humanity under all those designer clothes. That aspect is lacking in the book and so I do think the film sold out a little to make the "Devil's" character a little more palatable. Esperaba ver una crÃtica despiadada al mundo de la moda, pero me equivoqué. La PelÃcula fue dirigida por David Frankel. Meryl Streep encarna a la editora de la fictÃcia revista Runway, “la más exitosa publicación norteamericana de moda” y no sólo vuelve locas a sus secretarias sino que puede levantar la carrera de un diseñador con una sonrisa, o devastarla frunciendo los labios. La protagonista sin embargo es la “periodista en ascenso” (Anne Hathaway) que no tiene vocación por la moda pero piensa que esta puede ser su oportunidad para que se le abran algunas puertas en el mundo de la prensa gráfica y acepta el puesto de asistente de la “Dama Dragón” más malvada del fashion world.
