Pewter ?Curlia? platform sandals from the Faith Solo collection by Finsk
2008-04-30 17:30:00 Pewter 'Curlia' platform sandals from the Faith Solo collection by Finsk What does everyone think of the trend for platforms that stop before the end of the shoe, like these ones by Finsk for Faith Solo? Personally, I really like them. I don't own a pair, so I can't say how easy they'd be to walk in (they always tend to look a little bit precarious), but I think the style is interesting, and makes the shoe that bit more unusual. These ones come in pewter or tan, and are £120. The platform is high, but the wide ankle strap should help anchor these firmly enough to your feet. What do you think of them?

Keeping- and being kept by- the faith... [1]
2008-04-09 18:05:00 For those of you who know me personally or who have read my posts on this blog or my previous/other ones, you may grow tired of me returning again and again to some of my favorite muses- some that I’ve never met but would love to, like Frederick Buechner, and others that I have had the privilege of knowing- like Bart Campolo. Still, when inspiration strikes- even if it’s from a reliable, trusted source- sometimes I feel compelled to share, as I am doing now. The following is from Bart’s latest newsletter, which you can get straight from the horse’s mouth here. This is what he had to say: Dear Friends, For as long as I can remember, I’ve ended my letters and emails with the encouragement ‘Keep the faith’. I must have picked that up from my father, since he’s the only person I know who signs off the same way. It might have been more lucrative for me to have picked up ‘It’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming!†instead, but I’ve always prefe...

1/8/07 - Life Journal - Oh, for the faith of Abraham
2008-01-08 19:13:00 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here am I." He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you." So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac.Genesis 22:1-3Abraham seems pretty calm here considering the circumstances. There's a reason he's listed near the beginning of "the faith chapter" of the bible, Hebrews 11. He exercised his faith in the covenant that God made with him like no one in history ever has. He was standing there, knife in the air, ready to strike down his son because he believed what God said. God would provide an alternate sacrifice or raise Isaac from the dead. Abraham had no doubt about this for God had said to him, "I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, y...

2007-12-31 09:27:00 Well Merry Christmas and nearly a Happy New Year ... 2008 is going to bring about huge change for us but our list of things to achieve all sit neatly under the umbrella of getting out of this house, which can at times make things a little tense. We were supposed to sign the Friday before Christmas but it was delayed ... again ... due to Christmas wind down. In one way it's good because the longer we get to stay here, the less time we have to spend living in the Dandy in the colder English weather, but with the constant talk of money and mortgages dominating the news, the sooner we are signed and out - the better. However, being positive is key and as per the title of this post - we continue to do so in our Estate Agent ... or is that an oxymoron? As time draws closer to our plans starting to realistically take shape there are moments when inside it is as if we are consumed with a big GULP. We contemplate what are we doing for a moment, have a brief re-cap of why we are doing it ...

10/17/07 - Life Journal - The Faith of Job
2007-10-18 04:10:00 "Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed by the name of the Lord."Job 1:21Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!" But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good fom God and not accept adversity?"Job 2:9,10Job was "blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil"; plus very well off. Satan basically went before God and said, "Well duh, of course he's so 'wonderful', you've given Him everything." God then gave satan permission (he couldn't do it on his own) to "touch all he has" (children, livestock, land) and Job responded with verse 1:21! Satan regrouped and said, "OK, but he still has his health, anyone would trade anything not to die." So God gave Job over to be afflicted by satan, but not as far as taking his life. The first thing out of his wife's mouth was, "Would you get it over with? Di...

KEEPING THE FAITH
2007-07-29 02:43:00 by Jeremy DeutchmanMy friend, Bren, drank way too much cola. She slurped through the morning and night. It?s a kind of addiction, this cola. But for Bren it made everything right. What could have been wrong with my friend, Bren? Why did she need nurture and care? How could she heal, my friend, Bren? And what gave her such a big scare? Her stories of love lost were legion. Her medical woes stacked up high. It?s not like she had lots of money. And then there?s the thing with the guy. They met at a dive bar called Shooters. Threw darts, talked a lot, shot some pool. And then Bren became slightly daring. She asked him to call her at school. My friend, Bren, taught first graders music. The trumpet; the oboe; the flute. The sound, over time, made your ears hurt. But Bren found it funny; a hoot. And sometimes she?d find someone gifted. A boy or a girl with a flair. With a smile stretched real big and a toss of her head, she?d say, ?Honey, you?re good; something?s there.?This one student named B...

Fulfilling Our Mission :: RE: Christian Apologetics: Defending the Faith
2007-07-16 21:22:00 Author: Eric Subject: Regarding Apologetics, An ApologyPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 3:22 pm (GMT -4) Regarding Apologetics, An Apology Gregory Koukl If we shouldn't use arguments to promote the Gospel--because it's leaning on human wisdom and not God--then what are we to say? I have been challenged a number of times recently on the use of intellectual arguments and rational persuasion in the defense of the gospel. In other words, the whole idea of Christian apologetics is called into question as being unbiblical. Two verses are usually offered as proof texts: --1 Corinthians 2:4-5 "And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God." --2 Timothy 2:24 "And the Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome..." And so with regard to apologetics--making a rational defense for the gospel--let me make a...

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
2007-06-21 00:14:00 Over one hundred German theologians have expressed support for Peter Hünermann?s recent call for an ?intelligent restructuring? of the Vatican?s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Hünermann observes that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ?has preserved the structure of a censor?s office, which it had at the beginning of the modern era.? And he notes: ?Today, it?s necessary to elaborate the ratio fidei in a very complex culture, with its grave social, scientific and human problems. This presents a degree of complexity that a censor?s office according to old models is absolutely not capable of handling, even on an organizational and technical level.? He is, of course, exactly right. In 1968, Ratzinger himself signed the Nijmegen Declaration ? a similar call for reform, which stated that the teaching office of the pope ?cannot and must not supersede, hamper and impede the teaching task of theologians as scholars.?
