The Fly Catching Machine
2007-10-27 00:00:00 You will see no fly in his house. A retired technician from China has invented a fly-catching machine. It is based on principle of how frogs catch flies. The machine uses a vacuum to trap them and the bait is just a piece of raw fish. The machine is being ...

The Fly: Movie Review, DVD Review, Blu-ray disc Review (2007)
2007-10-26 17:37:00 "The Fly"Kafka would have loved it. This remake of the 1958 original is essentially a horror romance. It’s one of David Cronenberg’s best films, with Jeff Goldblum’s inventor-scientist Seth Brundle joining Geena Davis’ Ronnie in creating a heart-felt, B-movie gross-out. What the film creates in Seth’s unflattering transformation from human being to human-fly is grotesque, but unlike so many of today's horror movies, none of it is served with a trace of humor. Cronenberg and company are dead serious about their cautionary ideas about the abuse of science and technology. As Seth deteriorates into a mess of ticks, mandibles and twitches, the movie comes down to the nuances of Goldblum’s spot-on performance and the horror of what some will do with a loaded rifle in the name of love.Rated PG-13. Kimi Raikkonen The Flying Finn
2007-10-22 22:29:00 *Image: http://tibinews.files.wordpress-.com/2007/03/raikonen.jpg * *Rikknen had a long line of success in karting from the age of ten. His first race outside his home country was in Monaco when he was 15 years old. His steering wheel broke during the race and he informed his mechanic about the problem by waving the steering wheel in the air on the home straight. Rikknen's next Monaco race was also memorable as he was thrown on the wrong side of the safety fence in a first lap collision, but continued driving there until running out of road and lifting his kart back on the race track. His mechanic thought Rikknen had retired, but he eventually caught up with the other competitors and finished third. In 1999, Rikknen placed second in the European Formula Super A championship. He also competed that year in the Formula Ford Euro Cup, and by the age of twenty, he had won the British Formula Renault Winter series, winning the first four races of the year. In 2000, he won seven o...

Beirut: The Flying Club Cup
2007-10-12 23:18:00 Beirut: The Flying Club Cup21-year-old Santa Fe native Zach Condon is back with Beirut's second full length album. Zach has garnered a lot of attention considering his relatively young age.But why not? Condon represents everything snooty bloggers love. He combines the scholastic minds of Colin Meloy (of the Decemberists) and Jeff Mangum (of Neutral Milk Hotel) and the instrumentation of a gypsie circus. Instruments used on the album include cello, accordian, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, drums, violin, organ, tambourine, baritone sax, glockenspiel, trumpet, and euphonium. Sound like enough instruments for you? God knows it sounds like enough for me.There are so many things I don't like about Beirut. First and foremost, unlike Meloy or Mangum there is almost nothing poppy about Beirut. His song writing is slow and plodding with only the unique instrumentation to keep your focus. Even the instrumentation can't get me to listen to a whole song. There is something about Condon...

Convert Web Page URLs to PDFs on the fly
2007-10-02 09:57:00 LOOP is a unique extension for Firefox that converts the web browser into a proper PDF writer that can do some amazing things sometime not possible in other free PDF conversion software.First and foremost, as you are browsing the web, click the Add URL button and that webpage will be converted to PDF almost immediately - the entire process requires a single click. You can continue browsing and keep adding more URLs to the PDF queue - all the PDF conversions will happen in the background with interrupting your work.If you have any local documents (like Word, Powerpoint, Excel or Images), LOOP for Firefox will convert those as well to PDF files - click the "add file" button. And finally, there's a "Combine All" button which will merge all the PDFs that you added to the queue and will create one PDF file out of them. You can also reorder the pages in the Combined PDF with the "move up" or "move down" buttons.Pretty innovative and useful extension. Requires you to create a quick account...
Women’s Accessories Fall/Winter 2007/2008 Italian Shoes – The Flying We
2007-09-28 18:58:00 We have seen the sexy boots and the Retro Peter Pan boots for the Women’s Fall/Winter 2007/2008 scene. The Décolleté fills the largest segment of the market. The 70s theme finds its way into this year’s design. The platform, or wedge, is the protagonist. These shoes are more comfortable than spikes and women who cannot walk on high, elevated heels... The Spider And The Fly
2007-09-26 22:41:00 Grade 1-6; Most people are familiar with Howitt’s poem, but DiTerlizzi’s art raises this hackneyed classic to a new level. Rendered in black-and-white gouache and pencil, then reproduced in silver-and-black duotone, the paintings have a spooky quality perfectly suited to retelling this melancholy tale. Ms. Fly, with her whimsical flower umbrella and Roaring ’20s attire, ...

The Flying Babies
2007-09-21 20:00:00 Back in my hometown, I see myself running to be in time to get aboard the last jeepney trip to town. I arrive at the waiting shed on the road. I don't see a jeepney, instead I see more than ten seats scattered on the ground. The seats are all over the interior of the shed. Their semblance is between a jeepney driver's seat and a lover's chair or a sofa. The seats are already occupied. I see the familiar faces of neighbors and their eyes are all turned to my direction at my arrival. There is one vacant seat at the end of the shed. I hurry and take my spot but a guy in his 30's scuffle and pushes me off the chair. I would have complained but I hear what seems to be the driver's voice. "You'd better split the chair so we can take off," he said. "By the way the chairs are contaminated with germs and viruses, just sit well and be steady. Don't let your hands wander onto the chair's surface." He added.I really don't see the jeepney, I know we are inside the waiting shed but my min...

Failed Experiments with the Flying Car
2007-09-14 11:28:00 When most people think of flying cars, they think of the Jetsons TV show, and speculate that, maybe one day in the far-off future, people may drive flying cars. You might be surprised to know that flying cars have been in development since the 1930s--even before the Jetsons. There has been interesting milestones along the way. Beware the Flying Banana
2007-09-13 02:35:00 This is the biggest waste of time and money since “New Coke”! Montreal artist(?!?) Cesar Saez is making a giant banana that he intends to fill with helium and anchor 30-50 miles high over Texas. The banana is 300 meters long. This whole idea is fucking retarded.
A road opens -- bring on the flying machines!
2007-09-12 00:32:00 “The old mud road is a road that leads down to perdition. The improved road leads upward to a better land; to better homes; to a better and broader civilization,” said West Virginia Governor Ephraim Morgan as he, along with the mayors of Kingwood and Terra Alta, untied the ceremonial ribbons and let the barrier of bunting fall away. The Terra Alta-Kingwood Road was officially open. The weather had been cold and rainy for several days prior to September 11, 1924 and it looked as if celebrations could not be held; but on the appointed day the sun appeared and dried the roads and grounds to everyone’s satisfaction. It’s hard today to imagine a mere road opening being followed by a ball game, basket picnic, airplane rides, band music and various athletic events, but the automobile was still a novel way to get around in Preston County—only 30% of the state’s residents had a car yet. And this stretch of highway was seen as a major connector to the outside world. The road fro...
Israel and the US: the fly is swatting the man
2007-09-06 17:31:00 Syria accused Israel of infiltrating its airspace and bombing its territory on Thursday and warned it could respond. The Israeli military said it would make no comment on the report. It is hardly news that the Israeli military marches to its own martial drummer ? and is seldom held accountable ? but it is useful to imagine what might have been the response, domestically and internationally, if it was the other way around: if Syria had idly bombed Israel. It's hardly news that Israel has been spoiling for a war against Syria and Iran, And tthey have done all they can to inveigle the US into this co-conpiracy, see earlier post. But what does this action do to the peace initiatives that are suddenly enticing the region: the Arab Plan, Rice's trips and encouragement, and the selection of Tony Blair as peace envoy? Israel has long been the single most disruptive force to peace in the Middle East. That the US will continue to tolerate its actions while subsidizing its government a...

Beirut to release new album The Flying Club Cup on October 9
2007-09-01 07:37:00 *You can also download new track A Sunday Smile for free on their website*Beirut's new record, The Flying Club Cup, will be available in stores October 9th. The record features the whole live band, as well as some notable contributions from Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy and Heather Trost of A Hawk And A Hacksaw. It is very much inspired by the music and culture of France, especially the emotional pull of a musician like Jacques Brel (whom you should really check out if you haven't heard him). We have a few fun surprises in store for the lead up to the album release, so keep vigilant on the internets. At present, the band is busy rehearsing in Brooklyn for their upcoming shows. In September and October, they will be playing in the US and Canada at some very special venues. They are performing at nice theaters and will be debuting the new songs from The Flying Club Cup at these shows. Expect those, in addition to the "hits." After that, in November, the band will be headed to...

The Flying Luttenbachers - Destroy All Music
2007-08-31 10:03:00 "The Flying Luttenbachers sound like a swarm of angry epileptic insects descending into a garbage disposal or a horror movie soundtrack that's been dissected and randomly rearranged by a monkey. Torrents of percussion obliterate any traditional sense of rhythm while frenetic saxophone squawks and thrumming bass attack contrived musical tropes with vicious energy. To call this "free jazz" is
BEIRUT - "The Flying Club Cup"

Left the Flyball Team
2007-07-12 21:13:00 Well, I officially left the Flyball team today, the Utah Tailblazers. Just sent off my resignation email. I just don’t think I really fit there. About half, maybe, but I’m not really liking the rules I’m discovering. They don’t mesh with me. I hope to find another team. I still want to do flyball and Chase really loves it. I hope I haven’t burned any bridges. I was polite and succinct and I don’t want to criticize anyone. It’s just not the place I want to be right now. |
