Prince Harry on the front line - Afghanistan.
2008-02-28 18:17:00
It appears that Prince Harry has been fighting the Taliban on the front line in Afghanistan. Good on him! I know he was desperately disappointed to miss out in Iraq. Iraq unfortunately would not have been safe for him or his men. I hope the media coverage of this story does not spoil this for the prince. Good man.UPDATE: It's a shame that Harry has been withdrawn from operational service in Afghanistan following the media breaking the story. From the videos I've seen he looks to be a competent young man, more than willing to serve his country. The media in the UK should be congratulated for keeping his deployment secret, the foreign media outlets who released the story should not. Lives could be lost for the sake of a sensational headline. Jon Snow - tit.Hookie over at the Final Redoubt has some videos of Harry's service in Afghanistan.

Reward the front line...
2007-09-25 01:39:00
The majority of time in business, the main people that get the big rewards, are the people in charge. While this philosophy has its advantages for the Boys in charge...it really sucks for the little guys.If you have worked in retail, the food industry, at a local swimming pool, or a manufacturing plant, you have probably had the thought "what would they do without me". That thought is more valid than you probably realize. You are the front line people, and some of the most important people in your organization. You decide whether the company makes it or breaks it. You decide whether the company excels or is average. Whoever your boss is, he/she needs to be taking notice of this fact and thinking about what they can be doing to make sure you have the things you need to do your best.I'm not saying that if you feel like your bosses aren't respecting you that you should curse the customers away or poison the food at the local diner. I am saying that you (the employees as a whole) have...

Lessons from the Front Line: Danone vs. Wahaha
2007-09-05 13:22:00
China Law Blog’s Steve Dickinson did an excellent article on the long-running Danone-Wahaha joint venture and trade mark case in the China Economic Review (and details can also be found at the China Law Blog. The headline lessons are below, but the whole article is well worth a read. • Do not use technical legal techniques to assert or gain control in a JV • Do not expect a 51% ownership interest in a JV to provide effective control • Do not proceed with a JV formed on a weak or uncertain legal basis • The foreign party must actively supervise or participate in the day-to-day management of the JV Additional comment on the IP angle of the case is provided at China Hearsay by Stan Abrams. No doubt there will be more on this case (which I have covered before: “Another MNC in Hot Water” ; “Wahaha(ha!)” ) to come. In the meantime, here is a quote (from Unilever China boss, Alan Brown, in “China CEO”) that I often repeat on the subject of joint vent...

Buzz Patterson on The Front Line
2007-08-04 23:06:00
Retired Air Force officer Buzz Patterson was my guest on the show last night. You may remember him as the man who carried the ?nuclear football? for President Clinton. He is also the author of several books, including Dereliction of Duty and his latest book entitled War Crimes: The Left?s Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror. Here?s a sample from last night?s show: ?I was a little bit naive when I went to Iraq? I really thought the media was undermining our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and the War on Terror. I found out it was much bigger than that; it is Democratic politicians; its academics, our professors and our deans and college presidents on university campuses across the country; its Hollywood popular culture; its anti-war organizations like Code Pink for Peace and United for Peace and Justice; its this ?Wahhabi lobby,? I call it in the book, with funding from George Soros and MoveOn.org and the Ford Foundation that really wants to see America...
On the Front Line in the War on Terrorism
2007-07-17 15:17:00
In City Journal, Judith Miller has a long and interesting piece on the police departments of New York and Los Angeles, and their differing approaches to counterterrorism: On the Front Line in the War on Terrorism. On the face of it, the nation’s two biggest metropolitan forces seem to have adopted kindred counterterrorism strategies. Both have roving SWAT or “Emergency Service Unit” teams, equipped with gas masks and antidotes to chemical and biological agents. Both have set up “fusion” centers to screen threats and monitor secret intelligence and “open-source” information, including radical Internet sites, and both have started programs to identify and protect likely targets. Both have tried to integrate private security experts into their work. Both conduct surveillance that would have been legally questionable before September 11. Both have sought to enlist support from mainstream Muslims and have encouraged various private firms to repor...
Medical Movers & Shakers: African-American Women are on the Front Lines of
2007-06-22 17:29:00
By Shirley Henderson Growing up in Nigeria, Olufunmilayo Falusi Olopade, M.D., was urged by her father, a minister, to become a doctor. "He realized that the health of his congregation was poor" says Dr. Olopade. "He kept encouraging me. He saw a need among our people. That floats what I do." Honoring her father's wishes, she studied medicine in Africa and later in the United States. Today she is director of the Center for Clinical Cancer Genetics in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospital. Inside one of her two labs that are stocked to capacity with rubber gloves and test tubes, Dr. Olopade has been advancing the area of cancer genetics through tireless research to find out why Black women develop breast cancer earlier than White women. Nixing the idea that the cause may be environmental factors such as poverty and lack of health care, she determined that Black women developed a more aggressive type of breast cancer, which she bases on genetic factors. ...

Tonight on The Front Line: Bill Whittle
2007-05-05 02:13:00
Tonight is a great show.  Bill Whittle of Eject! Eject! Eject! is my guest.  Hailed as one of the best essayists of the conservative blogosphere–and perhaps the entire internet–Whittle writes eloquently but in a way that anyone can understand, explaining current events and conservative politics with logic, wit, and a piercing truth.  His essays are only published once every few months, but his site immediately sees an incredible influx of readers on those occasions, as email lists light up with the news “Bill Whittle has a new essay out!” I will have him on the show tonight to talk about his work, his beliefs on America and Iraq, and much more.  Expect a night of incredible insight and good-natured fun. It all starts at 10 pm Eastern, 9 pm Central, on The Front Line.
On The Front Line Tonight
2007-05-03 03:18:00
Unfortunately, there’s been a schedule change on the show.  SGT Brandon Welsh will not be able to be with us.  However, I have a special treat instead: CJ Grisham, an active-duty Army NCO, will be my co-host.  Some of the topics we’ll be covering tonight: Military Declares “Martial Law” On Soldiers and Families Blogging: Find out about the new regulations that target military members and families who have blogs. Rosie O’Donnell opened her mouth…guess what came out this time?  Crap.  We’ve got the horrific things she said about our military troops. Marine Lt. Nathan Phan’s charges were dropped.  And yet, even though the government’s case was in shambles, they are still giving Phan an NJP.  How is that possible? The veto, the bill, the mess: We’ll talk about the Liberals who are hell-bent on destroying this nation. We’ll also have some GOE updates for you as well!  Tune in at 9 ...
SubPrime Lending - Real stories from the front line…
2007-04-25 17:21:00
When I first started in this business about twenty years ago there was a definite amount of respectability across the board in the industry.  My position as a loan officer for a major savings and loan was viewed in large part as a professional endeavor.  Borrowers were respectful of lending guidelines and of my position relative to their having access to information and loan product in general.  Mortgage brokers were thankful for the service provided by lenders in the issuance of mortgage product for their clients.  All in all it was an industry where all parties involved respected each other’s roles and a general sense of continuity existed in the dynamic that was the real estate lending industry. Then subprime lending came along.  I have written extensively in this blog regarding the outright demise of a respectable business in the wake of subprime and every day I am reminded of the virus it brought - and not just to me, but to you, and your neighbor, and our housing ma...

Americans Make Up The Front Line Against Crime
2007-04-20 19:48:00
Fred Thomson has a column up today reiterating what we were talking about yesterday, that Americans are our own protectors, more often than not. If he keeps this up, he’s going to be unbeatable if he enters the Presidential race. Here’s why I, officially, heart Fred Thomson: Still, there are a lot ...

William Gheen from ALIPAC on The Front Line Tomorrow
2007-03-02 04:41:01
My guest on Friday night is William Gheen, head of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) to talk illegal aliens. ALIPAC is spearheading a boycott of Bank of America and other financial institutions that allow illegal immigrants to borrow money, own credit cards, and open bank accounts–all with fraudulent or even missing Social Security numbers and other identification.  We’ll also be talking about the immigration legislation in Congress now, the North American Union, and more.  Don’t forget to listen! The phone lines will be wide open, so make sure to call in and let us know what you think: Should illegal immigrants be given the opportunity to open bank accounts and credit cards? Will Americans pulling their money out of pro-illegal banks be enough to force the finance industry to sit up and take notice?  What’s YOUR solution for the immigration problem? The show airs Friday night, March 2nd, at 10 pm Eastern. Also, don’t miss upcoming shows...

Tonight on The Front Line: Border Patrol Updates and Debate
2007-02-08 10:26:02
If you’ve followed the story of the two Border Patrol agents (of course you have!), then you need to tune into the show tonight. Tonight my guests are Eric Dondero, libertarian writer and talk show host; Scott, a member of the Virginia National Guard who saw firsthand the situation at the border, and our own Heidi. We’ll be talking about the border issue hot and heavy tonight. We’ll also get into the specifics of a guest worker program: Dondero supports a program allowing illegals to come in as guest workers; Scott and Heidi do not. Should be a good time. Don’t miss it! As always, the phone lines will be open, so call in and let us know what YOU think. 646-915-9926 UPDATE: Wow! We had a debate all right. Very spirited discussion! 2007-02-03 10:19:01
On Wednesday I had Melanie Morgan, chair of Move America Forward, and Cat Moy, award-winning journalist, on The Front Line to talk about their new book, American Mourning. On The Front Line Tonight: Dr. John Lewis
2007-02-03 04:18:02
Dr. John Lewis believes the United States should attack Iran, and immediately.  He’s the author of “No Substitute For Victory,” an article about “the defeat of Islamic Totalitarianism.”  If you don’t have time to read the entire article, check out the quote below: This is not a clash between civilizations; it is a clash between civilization and barbarism. Until civilized people assert themselves with a depth of moral confidence exceeding that projected by those who submit to the ?will of Allah,? America will remain permanently on the defensive, in a state of moral dhimmitude, and the war will continue to its logical conclusion: a mushroom cloud over America. Heidi will be the other guest (yes, she’s popular tonight!) to round out the conversation.  We’ll be taking your calls and questions, so feel free to tune in, and make sure you give us a call!  The number is 646-915-9926.  Don’t miss it!! Blogging on the Front Lines of Conservationism
2006-12-09 16:08:01
… No, of course I’m not talking about this blog. Instead, some are using the instant connection of the internet to get their stories to readers far and wide, told via National Geographic - Exposing Atrocities, Blogs Give Wildlife Warriors Instant SOS: Getting the message out isn’t easy on the front lines of wildlife conservation. News crews and other media are seldom on hand to spread the word of efforts to save endangered animals in remote tropical regions often ravaged by war, poverty, and disease. Now conservationists are taking matters into their own hands, via their keyboards, in harnessing the power of the blog to attract headlines and much needed support. One such blog, from central Africa, made the news last month… I think I saw more about this elsewhere, in a more thorough story, but can’t seem to find where. If I find it again, I’ll update and include it below.
51395 blogs in the directory.
