The Great Debate: Instant Replay in Sports
2009-09-04 19:44:00
The Great Debate: Instant Replay in Sports As the old saying goes, "To err is human". And this is the reason why instant replay has been integrated into the world of professional sports. Recently, baseball adopted the instant replay system to review only boundary calls (i.e., foul balls and
Wood or Plastic: The Great Debate
2009-08-22 14:43:00
Similar to that other public debate between plastic shopping bags and paper, makers of wood and plastic pallets are apparently battling over which material is worse for your health and the environment. Wooden pallets put our food supply at risk, says one side; plastic pallets harbor more bacteria th

I have been paralyzed for months, unable to make a decision on how to spend a $50 gift card from the Gap. That, and I don't exactly go to the mall to browse very often ever (if you don't know why, go read this post). I don't have ANY jeans in a size 6 (and I am getting there people, slowly but surely). So jeans it is.But then there's this stuff from GapBody, my favorite sports bra and some loungey workout capris...I haven't bought ANY new workout clothes since the baby (who is now 18 months) was born. Come to think of it...since well before I even got pregnant with him. I need some new attire. Bad.I go back and forth in my head ("Well, I could always pick up some workout gear at Target, then I could just get the jeans...BUT the sports bra I CANNOT get at Target...you pay for what you get with that one...I could spend it on workout clothes and then just go to a trendy-ish used clothing store to get some new jeans...AH, but there's nothing like a new pair of jeans...actually ther...

The Great Debate: Kobe or Lebron?
2008-03-04 20:56:00
ESPN ran the great debate of 2008 on Sportscenter today. Is it Kobe or Lebron who is best equipped to lead our NBA nation? Arguing on behalf of Kobe was former All-star, Jamal Mashburn. On behalf of Lebron was all-time 3 point marksman, Tim Legler. Mashburn argued for Kobe in terms of past achievements, with Legler discussing how the league needs "change" and the potential of Lebron is great for the future basketball nation. Here's how their team records and stats measure up as of this moment in time.Lebron JamesCavaliers Record (34-26)PPG 30.3RPG 8.1APG 7.5SPG 2.0BPG 1.0Kobe BryantLakers Record (42-18)PPG 28.2RPG 6.1APG 5.4SPG 2.0BPG 0.6In terms of stats, Lebron is almost triple double status. Kobe's are just as impressive. We get another glimpse at these two phenoms as the Lakers and Cavs face off in a battle yet again. Will Lebron or Kobe's scoring and playmaking make the difference, or will someone on their surrounding cast make the big plays?Right now in terms of MVP ...
Home Schooling - The Great Debate
2008-02-09 11:57:00
When all things considered their child’s future, many parents limit their choices to civil or off the record schooling. Very often the indomitable dollar wins that debate. More and additional however, parents are choosing to school their children at home. There is no doubt the public schooling system is riddled with problems. Many resulting School teachers ...

Finnegan gets some outdoor time under a watchful eye. There’s a great debate raging at our house. When I got Finn for Cait, I made the executive decision that he was going to be an indoor cat. Knowing that the average lifespan of outdoor cats is around four years, and having lost my most favoritest cat ...
The Great Debate!

When has being black meant being unemployed? It hasn't before, but that is all too untrue for most individuals as of late. If you've been getting your daily fix from the numerous fashion blogs in the blogsophere, then you may have heard about the series of discussions taking place that focus on the lack of ethnic models on runways, in magazines, and gracing the covers of our favorite publications. Sad, huh? It seems that most people in the fashion industry feel that having one black supermodel is sufficient; that people believe black women on covers won?t sell; that agents won't represent black models; that designers are not conscious of diversity; and that blacks and others in positions of power don?t recognize a problem (quoted from The Fashion Bomb). This situation not only saddens me, but it sickens me as well. It makes me sick to think that designers and the like think that "black isn't beautiful." As if to say that our features and proportions make us unattractive in a sen...
On Jose Rizal's Retraction: The Great Debate
2007-12-29 16:30:00
Learning about Jose Rizal's life and works as part of college curriculum is mandated by Republic Act 1425 (RA1425), otherwise known as Rizal Law of 1956, sponsored by the nationalist senator Claro M. Recto. The law also required reading Rizal's scathing novels Noli me Tangere and El Flibusterismo in high school years. At the end of the history lesson on Rizal, professors will always emphasize that after writing his two novels which are obviously attacks against "men in robes," Jose Rizal returned to the fold of the Catholic Church by signing a retraction on the eve of his execution on December 29, 1896 (similar to Voltaire again by the Jesuits). The retraction text was published on the friar-controlled newspapers La Voz EspaƱola and Diaro de Manila on the day of execution, and on El Imparcial, the morrow. The retraction document was never shown to curious people not even family of Rizal and was supposedly lost.Almost forty years later, the supposed "original" retraction document wa...

The Great Debate: Nature v. Nurture

I do collage work in my spare time, using vintage materials. I was delighted to find these illustrations in a 1950's science textbook, under the heading: One Individual, Two Possible Life Histories. Kid Doomed is born into squalor, as seen by the gunshot cracks in the window. His mother ignores him, as she's just too darn busy dangling her infant over a hot burner. Kid Doomed passes the time by

The latest buzz on the real estate blogosphere is about Sex and Real Estate. It all started with a simple question - Can Sex sell Real Estate? by Shaun Mclane. The Issue: As long as kids have had rooms, a battle has been raging. Parents versus kids. Parents want kids’ rooms to be clean (or at least not a health hazard). Kids want the right to keep their space how they want it (to wallow in their own filth). Will a peace treaty ever be ...

I suppose we should be grateful for any news of our beloved club on international crunch day for England, but the two major stories in the papers today just leave me going, ‘And?’ First are the preliminary financial reports showing record pre-tax profits at Tottenham of £27.7m. Not a bad thing, I grant you but, and? ...

Most Improved Player 2007-08 - The Great Debate?

In the spirit of finding things to talk about during the deadest of the dead periods in basketball news, we of the MVN b-ball collective are making arguments for most improved player. I watched most of the Republican debate last night and honestly I’ve been so dissapointed by Republicans recently that I didn’t even know half of the guys running. Michael Jackson vs. Prince : The Great Debate
2007-08-03 06:17:00
You guys all come and go and no one ever leaves comments, so hopefully this can start some kind of heated debate. In one corner you have The King Of Pop and the world's most eccentric superstar Michael Jackson. In The other corner standing in at 5ft. tall , thy Purple Majesty Prince. Personal problems aside which of these two do you prefer? To help out I will refresh your minds of their genius with some albums.Michael Jackson's Special Edition Thriller (Interviews and bonus tracks)Download LinkWhile everyone likes to say this is Michael's best work I have to disagree and say anyone who's willing to look past Michael Jackson and embrace him for his music should check out his later stuff that is a lot more personal than his radio friendly albums of the 80s, and early 90s.And from that Purple Dude, Dirty Mind. It's a pretty funky album what more could you expect from the guy?Download LinkYou guys make the decision, maybe I will inject my thoughts later.----------------Now pla...

Teaching Vs Technology: The Great Debate About Laptops In Classrooms
2007-05-04 14:58:00
by Jaxxon McVeeIn a world where technology runs ramped, mobile technology can be found everywhere from cellphones to laptops. This technology is able to be used on the road, in a coffee shop or in meetings where as before, you had to be in an office tied down to a dedicated machine. Recently an increasing number of laptops are finding there way into classrooms worldwide. Some educators are concern that possibly laptops are not changing learning for the better. Some schools that use computers as part of their curriculum are being scrutinized by others. It's important to remember that laptops are not here to change the learning process. It's not just about having a laptop replacing a pen and paper but merging technology with academics. The need for teacher/student communication must improve as technology becomes part of the curriculum. Teachers must become facilitators in the learning process and encourage each student to become more involved in the learning process.Laptops in the cl...
