Fake Threats To Shutdown Facebook Emerge On The Internet
2012-01-25 05:14:00
Anonymous are known for DDOS attacks on government and organizational websites. They stand for the protection of anonymity and other online rights on the web. They attack those who they perceive as deniers of these rights. Anonymous is not an organization. Instead it is a loose collective with no leaders and hence cannot be tracked easily. They have recently taken down the US Department of justice website in retaliation for the closure of Megaupload.com by the FBI. Earlier, they hacked CBS and Universal Music’s websites. They have also attacked Indian Governmental websites. This sort of online activism in called ‘Hactivism’. So, today news started coming in when Mashable declared that Anonymous has threatened to shut Facebook down on January 28th as part of a global blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA. There is a video doing the rounds on the Internet which is supposedly the one that announced this blackout. The video tells us in trademark anonymous style that an online war ...

2012-01-13 01:00:00
A lot of people pit 4G wireless broadband against fixed internet services. Some say that the former is where the future of the Internet lies, while others believe that the latter will continue to be the type of service that the majority of users will use when accessing the World Wide Web.

Dear Congress, It's No Longer OK To NOT Know How The Internet Works : This
2012-01-06 19:06:00
Dear Congress, It's No Longer OK To Not Know How The Internet Works | Motherboard For any one who pays attention to details concerning Congress, who could forget the day the now dead, Ted Stevens, the Senator from Alaska, stepped up to the Senate floor microphone and released his famous tirade about the Internet being a series of tubes, and NOT a huge drump truck, onto the United States audience. (see C-Span for evidence) Jon Stewart made fun of him on The Daily Show, we all made fun of Ted Stevens the fuddy duddy grandpap and great grandpap Luddite. With that said, a bunch of very astute, very knowledgeable and very bright people all got together and wrote a letter to congress. It's titled: DEAR CONGRESS, IT'S NO LONGER OK TO NOT KNOW HOW THE INTERNET WORKS. Whether it was George W. Bush referring to “the internets” or Senator Ted Stevens describing said internets as “a series of tubes,” we would sit back and chortle at our well-meaning but horribly uninformed represen...
Who will control the internet? Humans or machines or something else?
2012-01-04 08:28:00
I believe that Time is invented by humans, events arediscovered by nature or god or something. Our human world based on both time andevents. Our brain is well-trained for both time-based and event based world. Everydaytasks that we are doing either based on time or event. If we want to design asystem based on time or event or hybrid means then we should understand their properties.Following are the properties of time - Time is a regular, repetitive one, more proactive, high cost, need to know everything in advance, low runtime overhead, anythingthat is not completely known cannot be handled at all, assumes periodic world, inflexible? can only handle what is completely known before, deterministic ? knownbeforehand which activity running when etc. Even based systems has followingproperties - flexible ? not completely known activities can be added easily, widelyused in many systems, simple constraints, high runtime overhead, limitedpredictability etc.Humans typically support more toward...

I Work For The Internet~~~ADD YOURSELF~~~Even If You're Just A Blogger !!!
2011-12-22 19:32:00
I WORK FOR THE INTERNET is a website started by  nerdy computer geeks who are sick and tired of the authoritarians running and ruining their Computer generated lives. We work for the Internet. We know first-hand that the Internet powers the American dream. American innovators have built the world's most popular sites, selling products and services to every corner of the globe, creating high-paying jobs from Maine to Hawaii. If Congress passes the Stop Online Piracy Act, America's most promising engine of future jobs and opportunity will be put at risk. Don't stop us now — we're just getting started! Tell the world you work for the Internet. "We work for the Internet,"  boldly declares. "We know first-hand that the Internet powers the American dream." The internet powers the American Dream. This is certainly a development, probably related to the collapse of the last great toxic ecosystem that powered the American dream, the one involving subprime mor...
CENSORING THE INTERNET
2011-12-07 19:14:00
As hard (and ironic) as it may be to believe, the information super highway--aka The Internet--is in danger of being censored by the U.S. Government. According to the The Protect IP Act (Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property) that's currently on route to Congress, corporations are seeking the power to censor what they dub "unauthorized" media sites. Take a look at the following video to understand what's truly at stake and how it endangers the basic Internet principles of expression and exchange. And make sure you check out AmericanCensorship.org to find out more about...

The Internet Blacklist Bill [Infographic]
2011-11-18 09:00:00
Yesterday I posted a little about the Internet Blacklist bills that congress is trying to shove down our throats. These bills are similar to Internet censorship bills you may have heard about in citizen loving countries like China, Iran and Syria (Did you catch that sarcasm?) Well the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is a non-profit Internet watchdog group that fights to preserve your rights to a free internet which includes free speech. These bills seek to erode those freedoms, and I just can?t sit back and do nothing about it. Neither should you. How many Youtube videos are uploaded every day? India Proposes A New UN Body To Police The Internet
2011-11-03 08:42:00
India seems to be spearheading the IBSA (India Brazil & South Africa) with a formal proposal submitted for a new UN-based body comprising of 50 members for Internet governance. In a twist of irony, India put it before an existing body, the Internet Governance Forum! India wants a separate entity (under the purview of UN of course) that, “combines the functions of the Internet Governance Forum and some of the revenues of ICANN in a structure that puts governments on top”. It is called the UN Committee for Internet Related Policies (CIRP). The statement submitted by India read “The intent behind proposing a multilateral and multi-stakeholder mechanism, It is not to ‘control the Internet’ or allow Governments to have the last word in regulating the Internet, but to make sure that the Internet is governed not unilaterally, but in an open, democratic, inclusive and participatory manner, with the participation of all stakeholders, so as to evolve universally acceptable, and...

Latest such to make news is the Google Internet Bus. Started in 2009, the Google Internet Bus uses a customized Internet-enabled bus to travels across towns and cities to spread awareness on the usage of Internet and its benefits. The custom-designed bus has five computers with a trainer on each and one video terminal for those who wait for their turn for free- of-cost training. The Internet bus would be in Patna from September 6 to 15. The bus will travel across these towns for 40 days from today. The hour-long training is being provided by NIIT who have joined hands with Google in this caper. Team Google claimed that the bus would reach approximately 2 lakh people during its tour in Bihar. The tour is already accepted as being a success. “The Internet has positively touched the lives o...

Making a Conference Call via the Internet
2011-06-17 15:12:00
Internet conference calls are becoming really popular in the world of business, because they make communication easier between employees. They can connect people through a conference line, which is actually a server that operates like a speakerphone and can switch numerous calls. New developments in communication technology have made it possible to use functions and features that weren’t there before and of course these features now include web-based solutions as well. It seems that the analog communication systems have reached their technological limits. Voice over IP (VoIP) set-ups have the ability to serve any needs. The possibilities are endless. Think about it: you can make VoIP calls between your different offices and departments and even your home, no matter where you are in the world. Usually this service is absolutely free, except for the cost of the internet network service. With an expensive switchboard (PBX) supply has many functions, and with their ...
Five Ways India’s New IT Laws Will Affect The Internet Industry
2011-05-27 09:52:00
The Economic Times has done a great spread on how exactly the new IT Laws will affect the internet industry. Here are some of the ways the Internet Industry and its arms will be affected and the effect on users, websites and corporates. 1) Statute: Electronic service providers to maintain transactions, receipts, vouchers in specific formats. The records should be produced for inspection and audit by a government nominated agency or person. Government can audit security and privacy protection measures. Effect on Users: A more convenient and secure environment is built as all their transaction data is kept. Effect on Corporates: As they have to keep electronic records of everything, cost for Intermediaries will increase. 2) Statute: Cyber cafes must register with a government appointed agency. They must identify every customer and keep a user record for a year. Computer screens must face the open area of the cafe. Cubicles must not be more than 4.5 ft high. Cafes will be inspected...

The Internet Radio Project - Introduction
2011-03-03 18:46:00
One of the not so secret projects I'm working on is the development of a streaming Internet radio station.I am fortunate to live in a city with nearly eighty AM and FM radio stations.  The sad truth is that most of them flat out suck.  There was a time when radio was a very happening place.  DJ's selected all their music, played what they wanted, so long as it fit in with the overall format of the station.  Listeners would tune in to get the latest news and hear newest records by their favorite artists.  Not anymore.  A handful of large conglomerates own the vast majority of radio stations, especially in the larger markets. Now when you drive across country...

The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains
2011-02-14 22:16:00
The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains is a comprehensive discussion of the effects of modern technology on modern thought, packed with information all too often glossed over or ignored in our quest for more and more efficient computing, networking, and information retrieval. This is not a hollow lamentation from a hysterical Luddite yearning for the past, but a detailed, scientific journey through the landscape of the mind. The Internet is an exciting and distracting place, an entrancement into which it is far too easy to fall and from which it is far too difficult to extricate oneself. Carr noticed that as he spent more time online, he was less able to focus on anything. Other academics noted that their dependence on the Internet resulted in a loss of their ability to read long pieces of text. The digital age promised to provide us access to the information that would make us smarter, but more and more users report that they feel scatterbrained, unable to concentrat...
How Egypt Cut Off the Internet
2011-02-04 23:05:00
The Basics of an Internet ConnectionOn the simplest of levels, your computer connects to the internet through an internet service provider (ISP) TeData, LinkDotNet.. etc. Your service provider then either connects directly to all the other internet service providers around the world or to a larger internet service provider that then connects to all the others. When you open up your web browser and type a domain name into the address bar, say google.com, for instance your service provider sends a lightning-quick request to whichever service provider Time.com uses to make its web pages publicly available on the internet. The computer that holds all of google.com's web pages sends a response back through its internet service provider basically saying, "Here's the web page you requested."The Border Gateway ProtocolIn order for ISPs to establish broader connections between the computers on their networks and the rest of the computers on the internet, traffic is routed through the Border ...

Will Women Drive The Future Of The Internet?
2010-12-30 09:00:00
Business Insider has an interesting report on how women are possibly spearheading the internet today. It has made a revelation, which none of us might have even considered in our wildest thoughts. Well it goes this way. Over the past three years, we have seen three internet startups gaining big momentum in the face of the ever expanding horizons of internet. Yes, we are talking about Gilt Groupe, Zynga and Groupon. As none of us had expected, these three sites have majority of their visitors as women. Sounds silly? Read on. A Part of the Game Gilt Groupe is a fashion site that provides invitation-only access to highly coveted products and experiences at insider prices. So, it inevitably attracts glamorous women, who are always on the lookout for trendy fashionable items at throw away prices. Will Chinese Overtake English To Become The Internet’s ‘First&r
2010-12-24 09:30:00
Will it? Well TNW Asia seems to think so. And they give it just 5 years to do so. Heres a look at how they arrived at that. China added 36 million Internet users last year – according to Internet World Stats. Significantly less than the reported 120 million it added in 2009. Nevertheless that takes the tally to around 440 million internet users. And the Internet penetration rate is just a little 33%. It is already the second most popular language with 22.6% of Internet users, trailing only English which is at 27.3 percent. If you take into account the reported average penetration in ‘English Speaking’ Countries which is pegged at 42%, TNW Asia claims that China has much more room to grow. If you extrapolate the current trend, it should take 3 years. And if you take into account some other factors, it may take 5 years? Convinced? I’m not. Some very important factors have conveniently not been considered, one of which is a ‘tiny little country with a mod...

Wisdom of the Crowd? And the Internet!
2010-12-06 12:35:00
(Disclaimer: The author of this article is aware of the umpteen advantages of Crowdsourcing and how it has revolutionized the web and in many ways our lives. The purpose of this post is to draw the readers’ attention to its limitation.) It was in ancient Greece that the world saw perhaps one of the earliest instances of utilizing the wisdom of the crowd. Today we call it democracy. Even though the free world accepts it as the best form of the Government, many would concede that it is far from perfect and fraught with weaknesses. Which brings me to the point of this post – and the other best known instance of the ‘Wisdom of the Crowd’ -  crowd sourcing/user generated content. Crowd sourcing has 2 avatars. First, where you rely on the mass participation to add value individually – like a volunteer drive or contributors to an open source project. Second, where mass participation makes a collective decision. This collective decision comes to be accepted as conventional wi...

Stop the Internet Blacklist!
2010-09-28 02:52:00
Via Demand Progress...Just the other day, President Obama urged other countries to stop censoring the Internet. But now the United States Congress is trying to censor the Internet here at home. A new bill being debated this week would have the Attorney General create an Internet blacklist of sites that US Internet providers would be required to block. This is the kind of heavy-handed censorship you'd expect from a dictatorship, where one man can decide what web sites you're not allowed to visit. But the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to pass the bill this week -- and Senators say they haven't heard much in the way of objections! That's why we need you to sign our urgent petition to Congress demanding they oppose the Internet blacklist. To read the rest and sign the petition, click here.My Zazzle Store

Thanks for making me hate the internet, Internet Guy

So I just had a real fun exchange with a guy (on freaking facebook of all places) with a guy pretty much accused me of needing counseling to deal with my sexual attraction to children and then kind of suggesting that I should be in prison maybe.  I'm not going to go into the specifics of the argument but suffice it to say that the guy is a) totally wrong b) a complete douchebag c) probably projecting some of his own weird issues onto me.  (Just so we're totally clear here, the attraction he was talking about?  All made up in his head.  He wasn't remarking on something I actually did, he was just making stuff up and then slamming me for it.)
