DOWN LATE, THE JETS AND BRETT PULL IT OUT
2008-10-27 21:05:00
DOWN LATE, THE JETS AND BRETT PULL IT OUTby TJ Rosenthal for Football Reporters OnlineThe Jets saved their season by pulling out a last minute win against what was on paper, an undermanned KC Chiefs team Sunday.  While former Jet and now Miami Dolphin signal caller Chad Pennington was throwing for 300 yards against the first place Bills, Favre was at times throwing science experiments into the air, just to see what would happen. What happened as a result was a game that was too close for comfort.  None of his three interceptions were as costly as the final one, that was returned 91 yards for a TD and a Chiefs 24-21 lead with under 8 to play. The Jets were driving and in the red zone, looking to go up two scores and essentially put the game away.Instead the returned interception left the Jets with their backs against the wall, having to play come from behind at home against a 1-5 team without Larry Johnson and their two top QB's Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard. It was a game that for ...

The NFL Season 2008 kickoff is near and anything could happen this year. Everybody is looking for the favorite and there are NFL Stats and reviews everywhere to study which the best teams could be. But if there?s a team that has everyone talking, that?s the New York Jets.   Their biggest acquisition has been ...

2008-04-26 00:30:00
Coming at you live from New York City!  What better way to celebrate my arrival than to look back at some of the greatest draft day screw-ups in history, all attributed to one team, the "home" team of the draft, the New York Jets.  Enjoy this trip down memory lane! --

Bringing Back The Dead: How to Rebuild the Jets in One Off-Season
2008-02-23 19:38:00
As Seen on [The 3rd String Safety] Head coach Eric Mangini put together a 10-6 season and had Jet fans dreaming of a dynasty. Mangini was the league?s hottest young head coach, and he could coach up the talent he had to be contenders each and every season. Oh my, how things have changed. The
The Jets Laveranues Coles wants a long term deal
2008-02-19 02:44:00
Jets WR Laveranues Coles is frustrated in New York. He feels the team should extend his contract so that he can retire a Jet: "I played hurt," Coles said. "I ran clear-out routes for Jerricho (Cotchery). They praised me for my toughness and [to] not worry about my numbers. They tell me that I'm an unselfish player. I do everything they ask me to do and then when it comes to business, they tell me my production is down. That's not right. I think I have four or five good years left. I just want to know where I'm going to end my career and I've made it clear I want to retire as a Jet" - Star Ledger Why don't you just retire a Buccaneer Laveranues? If GM Bruce Allen could some how bring in a difference maker at Tight End and another difference maker at Wide Receiver, this offense would be set. The line has another year of experience under its belt, Earnest Graham is as solid as they come, add a Crumpler and Coles esque abilities to Garcia's arsenal and we're ready to rival the ...

Etienne Boulay under contract with the Jets.
2008-01-19 02:43:00
The Montreal Alouettes' safety, Etienne Boulay has signed a NFL contract with the New-York Jets earlier today.Boulay had a tryout with the Buffalo Bills earlier this week but without any follow up. The Jets decided to take a chance and hired the 24-year-old player. Boulay might be a bit short for the NFL at only 5 foot and 9 inches but as the saying goes, never say never. His football background includes american college experience with New Hampshire college and a 2-year experience in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes. In his second year as an Alouette, a tough one for the player who had to fight off injuries, Boulay registered 28 tackles and 3 interceptions. If Boulay is rejected after the next New-York Jets training camp, he will have the option to stay with the training squad of the New-York Jets or return home with the Montreal Alouettes.(Picture: Etienne Boulay, RDS.ca)

Keeping up with the Jets set
2007-11-30 13:00:00
Considering all of the potential exposés that it could have chosen to break ? like once and for all bringing those blasted all-nude RV and boat shows into the open ? it seems strange that the New York Times would instead choose to shake the earth by revealing that men who attend NFL games like to get drunk and hoot at women. That same conclusion, no doubt drawn before the reporter strapped on his visor and went to work, could have been borne out with far less effort by just popping over to the house of any Sunday football loving Joe Lunchbox with a case of beer and a copy of Lusty Luanne?s Lunar Calendar 2007/2008 in tow. A Times reporter did go to a New York Jets game a little over a week ago and when it came to half-time and most of the crowd had gathered on the pedestrian ramps of Giants Stadium?s Gate D, cruelly ignoring the lifetime achievement award or some-such being given to one ?Curtis Martin?, he went to see what all the fuss was about. He found hundreds of men gathered on...

The ?VorteXX Chandelier? Looks Like Something Out The Jetson?s Crib?
2007-11-11 00:27:00
Don’t it? Anyways the VorteXX Chandelier has been described as being “reminiscent of a double helix with the appearance of an endless flowing shape - weightless, pulsating and gleaming” which should be alluring to anyone to who digs that modern look. Despite what you might have heard, beating the Jets in overtime makes us be
2007-11-08 03:37:00
And not just better off. Idea blatantly stolen from Chris at Arrowhead Pride. Here's how your Redskins shake up relative to the opposition, per ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Fox Sports. If you care. ESPN: 12 (15) Redskins 5-3-0     In their previous three games, the Redskins rushed for a combined 214 yards. In beating the Jets on Sunday, they rushed for 296 yards. Tough to tell if the ground game is back when the opponent is so bad. The paranthetical was last week's ranking. I guess it's strange for them to question accomplishment against the Jets (by the way, enough effing Jets bashing; I'm guilty so I won't get too indignant, but good on them for playing us tough with a brand new quarterback) and yet move us up 3 spots. Likely in virtue of stock dropping Chargers (7->14), Chiefs (11->15), Seahawks (12->16), and Ravens (14->17). Et tu, Pete Prisco? 12 [Previously] 17 At 5-3, do we really know how good this team is or can be? They haven't looked great ge...
Barely beating the Jets still counts as a W
2007-11-05 18:01:00
The important thing is that we won. Also, from the NFL.com recap, here are some great quotes from Shaun Suisham, who had a monstrous game and should get MVP honors: "It's a good feeling," Suisham said. "You feel like you contributed to the team. The guys are working so hard all game and you're off on your own. When you get an opportunity like that, you feel more like a football player."... "I'm glad they all went through," Suisham said. "I didn't do anything special." I'd disagree; it was a little special. In the not so distant past you was getting cut from other teams and simply trying to survive professionally in the National Football League. What you did was score 15 of our 23 points in a manner that no other player on the team was likewise capable. The insecurity about not feeling like a football player, perhaps well-founded among kickers, is endearing. Awareness of your unique position as a non-athlete surrounded by athletes makes for great print, but don't sell yourself ...
Five Questions for the Jets game
2007-11-02 15:56:00
Bassett over at Jets Blog emailed me earlier this week and proposed a five question exchange, and I happily accepted. His answers to my questions should be up over there at his blog shortly are here and you'll find his answers to mine below: Hogs Haven:Is Kellen Clemens the answer? If yes, in virtue of what, exactly? Jets Blog: It's impossible to say whether Clemens is the answer or not yet, but he'll get some good tests  before the end of the season, starting with the Redskins defense.  I will say that Pennington was not the team's biggest problem, but at this point, the Jets need to evaluate their options. I do think that Clemens has a bright future, but we can't judge based on what he's done in the Baltimore game in the 4th quarter ... the defenders were playing prevent.  During the 2006 Draft, Clemens shot up many boards and was considered the first option of the second-tier QBs.  All the same, he's a younger Pennington type with a better arm for long ...
Bills/Jets: The Jets Blog's Take
2007-10-26 15:58:00
This is the second Bills/Jets matchup of the year, so as far as the interviews we usually run, we have a little shake-up. (OK, it wasn't by design - Jetfighter from NY Landing Strip decided that a vacation from the Jets was prudent given the team's struggles.) So this week, we got lucky - Brian Bassett from The Jets Blog, a very fine and frequently updated source for Jets rantings, was kind enough pinch-hit last minute this week. Here's the interview in its entirety (my questions in bold): At 1-6 and with a young, talented QB in the fold, why do you think Eric Mangini has been so committed to keeping Chad Pennington in the lineup? TJB: Honestly, and this sounds cheesy, but it cuts right to the core of what Mangini's whole mantra to his players is ... if you work hard - and then harder still - you will be successful. Pennington is one of the first players in and last to leave. He knows Brian Schottenheimer's ever expanding playbook inside and out and embodies everything Man...

Patriots Spying on the Jets? [J. Mark English]
2007-09-11 13:33:00
The Jets and the Pats really are fighting a cold war right now. Espionage is the only the latest in the continuing saga of bizarre tales of competitive spirit gone awry. This is from ESPN:NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, sources said. The camera and its tape were placed in a sealed box and forwarded to the league office for investigation, the sources said. "The rule is that no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game," the league said in a statement from spokesman Greg Aiello. "Clubs have specifically been reminded in the past that the videotaping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals on the sidelines is prohibited. "We are looking into whether the Patriots violated this rule."The Patriots' cameraman was suspected of aim...
The Romneys Meet The Clintons: Way Better Than The Jetsons Meeting The Flin
2007-07-05 16:59:00
The Romneys crossed paths with the Clintons yesterday in Iowa, and the things that would have been more awkward than their conversation is if they had decided not to acknowledge one another. Jonathan Martin of the Politico transcribed the entire conversation, which seemed to be filled with the most innocent small talk possible. Apparently even the ...

Manitoba Tories promise to bring back the Jets...if they win
2007-05-08 04:06:00
It's been a week of Canadian politicians using hockey as a platform for possible election. First the Doan saga, and now this: Manitoba's provincial election campaign has turned its attention to hockey with the Conservatives promising to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg.Standing alongside former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen, Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen said he'll work with the private sector to bring back the team, who left Manitoba a decade ago.McFadyen won't say how much taxpayer money he'd be willing to put up, but says the government could follow Manitoba Hydro's example and raise money by issuing bonds. He also says he would consider a special lottery to raise money as well as a players tax similar to one implemented in Alberta at one time. The Tory leader says an NHL team would make Manitoba more attractive to young people and help stem the tide of university graduates who leave for Alberta. From Sportsnet.A pretty ballsy call from these guys, and a great idea. However, if these s...

Meet the Jetsons
2007-02-21 14:48:00
A recent article in eSchool News analyzes the New Media Consortium?s 2007 Horizon Report, highlighting six emerging edutech trends that the report suggests we keep an eye on in 2007. I find it interesting that the author ignores some of the more worrisome trends identified by the report (information illiteracy, mass amateurization), instead preferring to highlight the ways that the mobile phone and Second Life are going to revolutionize education as we know it. So much of the discourse surrounding edutech has this sort of Next Big Thing focus, while many of the real obstacles that are crippling the potential of the online education revolution are left to the poorly-armed teachers in the trenches to deal with. One of eLearn Magazine?s recent Predictions for 2007 proved even more succinct at summing up the wonders that are in store: "Neal Stephenson's and William Gibson's metaverse is open for business: 3D, first-person, highly sensational, real-time. Yes, ther...
