Articol scris de Cinefilul.Actori: Actori: Ulrich Muhe, Sebastian Koch, Martina Gedeck, Ulrich Tukur, Thomas ThiemeProbabil c? acest titlu nu v? spune mare lucru. Americanii l-au tradus The Lives of Others ?i preg?tesc un remake. Ghinion. Das leben der anderen bate produc?iile similare la scor de maidan. Ac?iunea are în ultimii ani ai RDG-ului. Sistemul controla aproape totul. Intelectualii er...

The Oscar winning film “The Lives of Others” from 2006 (”Das Leben der Anderen” in German) is another film about the days of the former German Democratic Republic, very different in ambience from the film Goodbye Lenin!.   Click on the picture to buy the DVD.

"The Lives of Others" Not a Road to Damascus Moment
2007-09-17 16:47:00
I commend to you the excellent new film, "The Lives of Others," by Florian Henckel von Donnsermarck. The central drama is the moral struggle within an East German secret policeman as he spies on a prominent playwright and his actress girlfriend. The policeman is a true believer in the East German state -- and the playwright is a hopeful socialist, "our only non-subversive writer who is read in the West," as another secret policeman describes him. The Stasi (State Security) man comes to see that his surveillance is just a tool of corruption and petty politics. The playwright, too, is driven to an act of covert rebellion against the police state. Their lives become deeply entangled. I'll not say more about the conclusion. There is a lovely moment early on when a little boy asks the secret policeman if he is really a Stasi agent."Do you know what the Stasi is?""Yes. My dad says they are the bad men who put people in prison."The audience knows this is a dangerous moment for the little ...
The Lives of Others: Humanizing The ?Self? And The ?Other?

It is a film that celebrates the unlimited potential of human beings. It goes beyond the obvious exteriors and blurs the distinction between good and evil and humanizes the ?self? and the ?other?, writes Mayaa What happens when the life of a Stasi spy meets with the life of a contemplative writer artist during the communist East ... This critically-acclaimed, Oscar®-winning film (Best Foreign Language Film, 2006) is the erotic, emotionally-charged experience Lisa Schwarzbaum (Entertainment Weekly) calls “a nail-biter of a thriller!” Before the collapse of the Berlin Wall, East Germany?s population was closely monitored by the State Secret Police (Stasi).

Shane and I just watched a German movie called The Lives of Others. It's about a Stasi agent (secret police in the former GDR, or what was East Germany) who is a "true believer" in Socialism, but as the story develops, we watch his metamorphosis as he begins to see the corruption of power and abuse within the state. At the same time, the citizens he moniters act in a complicit manner with the political powers and Stasi that they fear. This movie was excellent because it reveals how there are no easy black and white answers in post-communist situations. You cannot seperate the "good guys" and the "bad guys" so easily. The whole society was infected and became sick as a result of the system. In this way, most were victimized to one degree or another irregardless of position. It was a systemic problem, not one that could be blamed solely on individuals. I have a heart for post-communist nations because I desire to see them healed and restored from the abuse that they've suffered (and...

The way of looking both sides of life from motion pictures is a great gift for modern people. Many different stories, tragedies, happinesses, voices, faces, and i do believe that we can learn a lot about these from a movie. Thanks to Live of Others' creators for bringing such a meaningful movie despite its desperate atmospehere at times. However, life comes as a gift and it all depends on us to see the best or worst side of it.Lives of Others is about a stunning story connected to historical events (cultural scene of East Berlin), at the same time a deep love of two person. The movie includes very nice soundtrack by Gabriel Yared & Stéphane Moucha. The one i really love:Bayon - Stell Dich Mitten In Den Regen
Movie: The Lives of Others (2007)

Original Title: Das Leben der AnderenDirected by Florian Henckel von DonnersmarckStarring Martina Gedeck, Ulrich Muhe, Sebastian KochThe Lives of Others was this year's Oscar winner for best Foreign Film, and after seeing it, I can see why! I didn't know that much about it before watching it, but it really drew me in and took me by surprise. It is a movie that works on different levels, combining personal drama with political and moral issues. It is set prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall in East Germany, where the Secret Police are spying on a high-profile couple whose political opinions are not in line with the socialist regime. What follows is a twisting tale of deceit, fuzzy morals and eventually an unexpected and strange sense of justice. The production values are very good, and the movie has a very consistent and well-developed atmosphere and style. It is not showy at all, but subtle in the way it draws you in gradually. The acting is uniformly excellent; this film really ha...

Best Foreign Language Film. Hmm. This interests me. I should look it up really as I do know that BBC Films passed this one up when it was being touted round for finance. Makes me wonder why those guys pass up all the good stuff and stay themselves with mediocre work when they have some amazing talent to develop. I'm working on Shanti which is for the most part in Hindi but does have some English spoken word. Currently the version I have been given by the director is draft 4.19 (draft 2 being my first subtle restructuring) yet it still lacks some kick but after one weekend of abstract thought I have a few devices to put into the project that will really make it come alive. My problem is that the script is written by a director for a director (himself in this case) and as such it's basically a loose map of what is in his head. Taking this course without any substantial alterations how on earth during the production of this movie will his team build his vision? Every single step o...

Winner: Foreign Language Film The Lives Of OthersGermanyACCEPTANCE SPEECHFlorian Henckel von Donnersmarck:Oh my God! I was already crying after Tornatore's film. I thank you Academy members from the bottom of my heart for this honor. And I thank Michael and Tom from Sony Classics for choosing The Lives of Others and bringing it to you. I thank Germany and Bavaria for making this film possible. My great department heads for making this film with me. Schwarzenegger for teaching me that the words "I can't" should be stricken from my vocabulary. And my entire crew. I thank my producers, commissioning editors, distributors, financiers. I thank my brother Sebastian for helping with this script and for "Baumba" for believing in me. But most of all I thank my actors, especially Ulrich and Sebastian, you're the greatest artists and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Finally, my wife Christiane. No, I have to say that one more thing. Just that one more thing: Christiane, I love you.
