Rocking & Rolling; The Mariners On The Docket Out West...
2008-04-21 20:03:00
Despite the dire predictions and doom and gloom of some in the local & national press, as well as others, perhaps even myself -- the Orioles are playing well.In light of yesterday's 7-1 loss to the Evil Empire, Baltimore is playing some exciting baseball and on Friday and Saturday, when they won, the offense came through and did the little things right. You can't also discount what the bullpen has done, especially, Jim Johnson, who has been a huge surprise, a good Daniel Cabrera on Friday, and Brian Buress' gutsy performance on Saturday night.Roberts may be in a slump, but Luke Scott is still hot, Jones is starting to come around at the plate, Mora is still a bunting machine, and Markakis is the "man".I'm still enjoying the ride waiting for a fall, but so far so good. Although a lot of the media are riding the wave of the Orioles' nice run, I'm being cautiously optimistic. This team still has a lot of unproven talent, lack of starting pitching depth, and as well, an offense...
The Kingdome, Home Of The Mariners
2008-02-15 09:36:00
Just about a month and a half until baseball season starts! To tide us over until March 31st when the M’s take on the Rangers, I dug up this 1979 Mariners program feature on the Kingdome. Just in case you were dying to know where injured fans (who cheered too hard) were to be taken, ...
Fear and Moaning: Bedard, Angelos, MacPhail & The Mariners...
2008-01-29 16:48:00
As the story of why Bedard is still an Oriole & why he's not the left coast continues to become a conspiracy of mass proportions, take a look at Roch's blog this morning. I very much concur with what he says. I hope Bedard could stay with the Orioles and remain the ace, but the fact of the matter is that he's 28, never pitched over 200 innings and has been an injury concern.I could live with that fact of Bedard staying if he were on a .500 team and signs were pointing upwards; alas, they are not and will not so for a good, long while.Let's not forget the Angelos angle. I'll wait and see what happens before I start to unload on the owner, but there seems to be so many stories being spread about, I don't know what to believe. If for some reason there was involvement by Angelos in nixing this deal, the negative view of the franchise already by some in the media will only become that much worse. From Roch's blog: I assume that it?s going to be a slow news day at the warehouse, tho...
The Mariners need a lot of things, but not Bedard (SportingNews.com)

The Mariners can’t win now, even with Erik Bedard, so they shouldn’t sacrifice their future to get him. Read the full story.
Ex-Met: Cairo to the Mariners
2008-01-09 18:28:00
Just over a week ago I completed a post on former Met Miguel Cairo, who I thought would be a good fit for the Mets Bench. That was before the Mets acquired Angel Pagan and became close to re-signing Jose Valentin. I think they've made better selections for the last spot on the bench but even if they were interested in bringing back Cairo he's no longer available as he's signed with the Seattle Mariners. The Seattle Mariners signed veteran infielder Miguel Cairo to a one-year, major league contract on Tuesday, giving starting second baseman Jose Lopez more prodding to improve. source ESPN
Why The Mariners Et Al Should Trade For Johan Santana.
2007-12-10 13:01:00
There is nothing in this morning's papers about Johan Santana, and, with Christmas 15 days away, I won't be surprised to see that remain the status quo.  That is too bad as the specualtion involved is as compelling as any reality television show except, maybe, VH1's America's Most Smartest Model. All the focus has been on how many top flight prospects other teams should be willing to pay to acquire the two-time CY Young winner.  What isn't given quite as much attention is why the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Mariners, Angels and Dodgers should pull the trigger beyond a reading of Santana's curriculum vitae. In addition to Santana's final year of his contract, which expires after the 2008 season, what any team is acquiring is the exclusive negotiating right to sign Santana to a contract extension in the $120-$160MM range.  That price tag necessarily limits the list of potential suitors to those currently involved, and really just to the most deep-pocketed of teams. &n...
O's Lose 10-3 to the Mariners; A Quick Rundown...
2007-08-08 16:01:00
Last night, I spent much of my energy trying to stop a developing cold, and kept my focus on the whole Barry Bonds home run chase, as I had to write an article on it.In light of the whole Bonds escapade, there was business conducted around Major League Baseball and the Orioles took on the Mariners last night. The Mariners, whom I did not think would be much good, have surprised everyone and are within striking distance of the wild card and potentially the AL West lead.Jeff Weaver, who has been struggling, came into Baltimore and defeated the Orioles soundly, by a score of 10-3.Steve Trachsel was decent, going a little more than 5 innings, and his start was different than his past few where he got lit up.The game was close until the last frames, and Jamie Walker nor the bullpen could not hold the fort for the Orioles.I feel like crap now; thus, I'll be brief today.Nick Markakis drove in a run for the Birds, and Ramon Hernandez drove in two.I'd love to try to make tonight's game to ...
Same Sh*t, Different Day: The Game Last Night, O's Lose 5-4 to the Mariners
2007-06-06 17:15:00
As we head into June, we have had many recurring themes ? mainly, one run games, starting pitchers doing their job (albeit, not going deep into games), and then the bullpen coughing up a lead.It happened on Sunday. It happened on Monday. It happened again last night. The Baltimore Orioles lost another close game to the Mariners on the left coast by a score of 5-4.The losing streak is now at five straight.Brian Burres pitched a little more than five innings, and only gave up a run after throwing 111 pitches. He?s done and well in the spot start role, and (should not be taken out unless he falters). The high pitch count scares me and Buress could be a lot more economical when he?s on the mound, but let?s not mess what worksThen, the fun began.Baltimore?s favorite relief pitcher (as to why he was in the game, God help us), pitched 1/3 of an inning, walked two and gave up three earned runs. I know the bullpen has been a little overused, but there?s no reason to bring in Baez in a close game...
Adding The Mariners and Yankees
2007-05-25 11:45:00
New York Yankees T CLIPPARD (-120) $240 to win $200 Seattle Mariners F HERNANDEZ (-113) $226 to win $200 Makes it four total plays today which looks to be my final card for baseball.  Might make a play on the Spurs/Jazz games.  Stay tuned. If you liked this post, buy me a beer!Share This
