Me, The Message, or the Media?
2008-04-24 20:40:00
The questions: If the medium affects the message, how will the Christian message be affected by the new media? Christians have a duty to critically evaluate the effect of our media choices on our message. Do our choices of media forms allow the message to remain Christian? Or are the tools with which we communicate at odds ...

Getting the message across
2008-04-16 03:30:00
Andy ITGuy – Sometimes its almost comical (in a sad sort of way) how people just don’t understand security no matter how much you preach it. Especially when many of those people are technical and they are supposed to be leaders and promoters of the IT program and even of security. Case in point. In the last couple of months there have been 2 different conversations w/i my company that involve an individual (well call him Bob) with a position of influence and in each situation comments were made ... read more
The Message vs. The Messenger
2008-04-15 00:00:00
A lot of times when we hear someone we normally disagree with, or simply dont like, speaking we have a tendency to only look for the faults in what they have to say. We do this in conversations and even when reading or watching interviews. Unfortuna

The Message Loop
2008-03-17 22:32:00
Windows applications cooperate with the Windows environment by continuously checking whether there are nay incoming messages. This is done by a program loop called the message loop. Messages are small packets of data that the operating system sends to a running program to let it know that an event. It passes these messages to the appropriate message queue. An application pulls messages off the message queue by using the message loop.

“A person’s a person, no matter how small!” Yes, it opened yesterday (big) and being the movie loser lover I am, I took Kid to Horton Hears a Who. What's the Message?
2008-02-13 05:55:00
The following tag clouds are from tagcrowd.com. First, try and guess who it might be, it's not that hard if you've been paying attention. The next question, what does it mean? The first is Barack Obama on Feb. 12 after winning the Potomac Primaries, the second is John McCain at the CPAC conference on Feb. 7, and the last is Hillary Clinton at the Jefferson Jackson dinner in Richmond, Va. on Feb. 9. First, this now makes political speeches a great drinking game. Drink when you hear "change," "America or American," "people," and "dream." Besides drinking, what can you gather? For Obama, the major themes are about people, the American Dream, and hope. This fits his image as a new JFK. I would bet politicos consider Obama to be on message. Meaning, his words fit the image he gives. For McCain, country and positions tie for his number 1 word, followed by intend, and defended. Conservative was said 10 times. This comes across as a very defensive speech which makes sense since ...
An Ode to The Message Board Authoritarians

Let's stop hearing the message and start doing it
2008-02-02 20:47:00
Submission to the will of God is no easy thing. Usually it requires a complete crushing of the outer man, so that the inner man cries out and reaches out to God in despair and hopelessness. Why does it have to be that way? Stubbornness, hard-heartedness, refusal to comprehend and accept the fullness of the truth. The world is in a mess, because people keep hearing the Word, but not doing what it says. One thing which amazes me to this day, is how I ever developed the courage and inner strength to begin this war. One morning I just woke up and said, “I can do this”. I must tell you that it took fours for God to bring me to that thought. Lately I have been inspired by the philosophy of Walter Russell. He states that man's power is limited to THINKING and ACTING. Personally, I feel that the only power we have is the power to CHOOSE. We can make a good choice, or a bad one. The world is a place which has been designed by Satan to prevent men from THINKING. A man's vision is dulled...

Ever wanted to make music? Thanks to one of Apple's less-publicized revolutions, maybe now's the time for you to start. Apple sells a software product called "Logic Studio." Maybe you've heard of it, but more likely you haven't. It's a package of pro audio recording, editing, processing and publishing tools. It's basically the audio-focused sibling of the better-known movie editing package Final Cut Studio.
The Message of the Rose
2008-01-26 17:00:00
The rose is a beautiful flower. It's been adored throughout history. A flower of romance and symbolism. We write songs and poems about it. We hold tournaments and parades in its honor. We crush its fragrant petals to make perfume. It's the flower of choice to give to someone you love.As beautiful as the rose is, however, it holds a hidden dark side. If it's not handled carefully in its beauty, it can cause great pain. How interesting that nature has designed a flower so beautiful to look at, but so painful to the touch. Has nature (or God) left a message in creation that as beautiful as romantic love can be, it can contain a thorn to pierce our hearts as well?I'm reminded of the scene in the Phantom of the Opera where Christine carries the red rose he's given her to the rooftop. After she declares her love for Raoul, she drops the rose that the Phantom had given her in the cold snow. As he picks up the discarded symbol of his love, he feels the thorn of rejection once again in ...

And, those are just the ones in his own party. He’s not planning on endorsing anyone else in the primary, which likely causes a sigh of relief in all the Democrat camps. The bombing at Qarantina - The Message to Bush: Remove your crusader outpos
2008-01-18 00:44:00
by Franklin Lamb Qarantina, Lebanon That word again, Qarantina. Qarantina was the site of a recent message to the Bush administration where a 33 lb bomb killed three and wounded 21. The explosion destroyed the bomb resistant titanium reinforced US four wheel drive SUV which Embassy security agents liked to use to give their girlfriends rides and make fast food pickups for Embassy staff. This day it was being used for an Embassy errand, a drop off at Beirut's airport. Qarantina, forever etched in the black annals of Palestinian history is the area of east Beirut near the Port where on April 13, 1976 Phalange forces killed 26 Palestinian bus riders. A grisly crime, followed by another massacre of Palestinians months later in nearby Tal al-Zattar Refugee Camp which began on August 12, 1976 and according to scholar Helena Cobban killed 1,500 Palestinians in one day, and eventually as many as 3,000 according to other reports. Qarantina and Talal-Zattar. Some h...

Obama is The Gift of The Message
2008-01-04 09:26:00
Before she gave up on me, my Mom used to foist all these self-help pop psychology books on me. I would sometimes actually try to read them, and they would even make me feel good, in the same way that cotton candy or nitrous oxide does.Last year some of my friends were reading “The Secret.” Out of curiosity, I took a look. It was pretty much “A Thousand Pages About Something I Refuse to Tell You.” But the book was good for a nice fuzzy rush, until the brain started processing the amalgamation of a thousand half-baked thoughts from a multitude of traditions, and realized it was just a dressed up version of the creepy Norman Vincent Peale's “The Power of Positive Thinking.”This New Age, no sacrifice, positive thinking, self-actualization stuff has been wildly popular for several years now. And one of the high priestesses and pushers of it, is Oprah Winfrey. Not surprisingly, given Oprah's extraordinary ability to tap into the American pulse, she has helped usher in the ne...

Pulse still trying.... and the message is clear
2007-12-29 01:34:00
Jason Isringhausen, Bill Pulsipher and Paul Wilson were Generation K, the next great staff of the NY Mets, the same organization that produced pitchers such as Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Koosman, Dwight Gooden and Jon Matlock. While they filled the hearts of Mets fans with hope after the beloved Championship 80's team was dismantled and once again Shea was filled with a losing team. But not one of the three ever produced for the Mets, all showed flashes of greatness only to succumb to injuries. Eventually the Mets moved on, Issy has made a career of it as a very good closer with Oakland and St. Louis. While both Wilson and Pulse have barely made rosters over the years. Wilson found some success in Cincy where in 2004 as a starter he went 11-6 with a 4.36 ERA in 29 starts, but he hasn't pitched in the majors since 2005. Pulse was out of baseball from 95-98 and then again from 01-04. His buddy Issy got him a shot in St. Louis in 2005 but that only lasted five relief appearan...

The message of H. E. Ayatullah Khamenei to the Hajj pilgrims from the whole

In these elixir-like days, nights and hours, many a man who gratefully consigned themselves to the Divine attraction, illuminated their hearts through penitence and repentance and cleansed themselves of the darkness of sin and idolatry in the waves of Divine mercifulness coming constantly one after another in this holy land. May God's peace be upon these hearts and these virtuous and self-purified people. It would be most appropriate if all my brothers and sisters did think deeply over such a blessing and avail themselves of this great opportunity. How the WGA is Winning the Message War
2007-12-03 04:45:00
A couple of weeks before the WGA strike started, Huffington Post writer Robert J. Elisberg predicted how the public relations part of the strike would go: Both sides will go to the press. Writers will point out that the studios make ungodly profits and screw everyone in sight. Studios will point out how many people will be laid off if writers strike against studios that make ungodly profits and screw everyone in sight. The press will side with the studios. Three reasons. A) They don’t have a clue who any of the writers are. B) Studio execs will actually call the press and talk about themselves. Writers won’t call the press because they’re pissed off at being ignored by them all the time. And C) No reason for the press to tick off an executive because, who knows, they might want to pitch one of their own screenplays to them later. That the press would side with the studios was a reasonable expectation - not just because reporters might want to pitch screenpla...
The Internet is the Medium, not the Message
2007-11-27 10:10:00
The Internet is the Medium, not the Message. Read that. Read it again.  Remember it. The medium changes- book–>newspaper–->radio–>TV–&g-t;Internet. Even when navigating new communication paradigms, the message remains the same, only transmitted along a slightly different medium. So when building your awesome world-changing web application, don’t worry so much about the medium. Focus on the message, which remains very constant, and always will remain constant. I was reading “Scientific Advertising” a book written in 1923, and was struck by how much everything in it can be applied to modern Internet advertising. The similarities are incredible, and perplexing as they are at first, it all makes sense when you realize that even the medium hasn’t changed that much- unless you’re a video site, you’re still basically working with a print medium, not all too different from a newspaper. You can take lessons about writing new...

Marshall McLuhan and Barack Obama: Medium is the Message in this Presidenti
2007-11-18 16:28:00
http://www.amazon.com/dp/041524-9910/ref=nosim/?tag=dexter2a-20-">I was just interviewed by Mark Austin Thomas in my regular Sunday spot on KNX 1070 all-news radio out of Southern California - about what happened to Barack Obama in Thursday's Presidential debate. It is generally agreed by observers, including me, that Obama did not do well in the debate. He certainly had some excellent moments - I thought his lecture to Wolf Blitzer that we shouldn't just accept the current technological options for energy was memorable - but, in general, he seemed not on top of his game, certainly not as much as in command as Hillary Clinton. But only a few days before, Obama gave the speech of his life in Iowa - electrifying his audience and building upon Hillary Clinton's weak performance in the previous debate.Did Obama just have a bad night? For better or worse, it's likely something more profound - a refection of something Marshall McLuhan famously pointed out back in the 1960s: the medium ...

Smilies & Emoticon Etiquette - Readers Not Getting The Message
2007-10-29 13:29:00
When you use a smiley or emoticon - do people really know what you are saying? There seem to be many problems in communication / conveying mesasges that arise because of the lack of consistency in the use of smilies and emoticons. I propose that there needs to be a standard usage across the board.

Is the medium or the message the more trusted?
2007-10-05 06:46:00
I guess it depends. Earlier this week, MarketingVox reported that BrandWeek reported that mobile and banner ads were the least trusted sources of media. Here’s a rundown: Newspaper ads: 63% of media consumers surveyed said they trusted newspapers ads. TV ads: 56% Search ads: 34% Banner ads: 26% Mobile ads: 18% Sites focusing on one brand, built by brand marketers: 60%. (Also called microsites. See my previous post.) Contrast those trust percentages for ads with blogs: Consumer-created blogs were trusted by 61 percent of global respondents, a figure that shot up to 66 percent for US-only respondents. That, combined with the 78 percent who trust word-of-mouth recommendations, suggests people put far more stock in the opinions of other “real” people. So, for advertising, is it a person’s level of comfort and familiarity with the medium that impacts trust? Why are newspaper ads more trusted than banner ads? And, funny how, even if a person is familiar with a co...
The Medium Is The Message

What do Ted Koppel and Frank Sinatra have in common? They both are blessed with large appendages on small, wiry frames. Legend has it that Frank had special underwear to house his huge hose. I told this to my friend Marilyn Johnson who wrote Frank's obit and the book "The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries," and she was unaware of this arcane detail. To Ted's johnson. Ted, shaking off comparisons to Howdy Doody and Alfred E. Neuman in his twilight years, apparently has quite a woodie. Ted tells Conan O'Brien last night that his wife "married him for the sex." [Second video] I was backstage at the Kennedy Center Awards years ago where Ted languished on a sofa waiting for his turn in the spotlight. My internal prowling Man-O-Meter needle plunged past the red warning line and disappeared.
The Message of The Messiah
2007-10-02 10:49:00
I have returned! I have returned to fulfill the bidding of my LORD and your LORD! I have returned to destroy FALSEHOOD! I have returned to fight all EVIL. I have returned to proclaim the sovereignity of my LORD, that HE is one and has no PARTNER!HE was not BORN! And neither does HE give BIRTH. HE is not the Father of ANYONE!And I have returned to prove to the world that I have not been KILLED , neither CRUCIFIED , but that my LORD has made it to LOOK that way !I have not DIED for the sins of anyone! I HAVE NOT DIED !How could I ? My LORD has raised me to the HEAVENS and there I have stayed till hence .Let the evil Nations beware! Let those who exploit the poor and cause mischief in the land tremble when they hear my NAME ! For I come not as a PROPHET , but as as an ENFORCER OF THE TRUTH !I come as an EMMISSARY from my LORD . I have come to take the lands BACK TO HIM!It is HE who is the ultimate OWNER of all the WORLDS and everything that is in-between.HE is the MASTER SUPREME !
