2008-04-18 16:38:00 Dos puntos unen a priori esta banda con Broken Social Scene: que publican en Arts&Crafts y provienen de la escena indie de Toronto. Pero hay más: como en aquella formación aquí hay también un buen número de miembros fijos (hasta siete), colaboración con orquesta en algunas canciones y una nutrida lista de puntuales (para las trompetas, el saxo, el cello, voces de acompañamiento? incluso los silbidos vienen acreditados a un colaborador).Podría continuar con los puntos de contacto, pero tal vez sea mejor resaltar los que simplemente les diferencian: la naturalidad (o la falta de ella) y el lograr que todos los elementos encajen. Lo que en uno suena espontáneo, fluido y rico en detalles (Broken Social Scene) en otro resulta forzado, denso y sobresaturado (The Most Serene Republic). No es justo comparar sin más ambas agrupaciones, ya que su enfoque musical no es exactamente el mismo, y el de The Most Serene Republic a veces se acerca más al de Arcade Fire, en la limpieza de su sonid...

Y digo esto porque basta con oir los primeros acordes para adivinar la nacionalidad de esta gente: si, son canadienses.The Most Serene Republic son el barroquismo elevado a la máxima potencia. Pero se quedan a medio camino entre la distorsión y la oscuridad de sus compatriotas BSS, las más limpias melodias de los tambien canadienses Arcade Fire; entre el post-rock y el pop luminoso.Sus caracteristicas principales son la utilización de voces corales y de multitud de instrumentos sinfónicos que junto a las casi siempre endiabladas percusiones, les dan un aire de pomposidad que a la vez puede generar adeptos y detractores. Con un magnífico fondo, quizá les falte definirse por un lado u otro para subir un peldaño y llegar a la posición a la posiblemente estén llamados.

2007-05-02 20:46:00 Arts & Crafts - 2.006Tras editar su fabuloso debut el año pasado, los canadienses The Most Serene Republic, retornan este 2006, con su primer EP titulado ?Phages?.Phages está formado por ocho canciones y es presentado como un ?tour EP?, en donde continúan con sus desarrollos multi-instrumentales y sus raíces propias del indie rock, para conjugarlas finalmente en frescas y estilizadas melodías.Siguen evocando tanto a sus colegas Broken Social Scene y a los Death Cabe For Cutie, y se siguen moviendo dentro de las estructuras musicales de su debut. La diferencia es que en ?Phages? se enfocan en melodías más trabajadas y se funden en un sonido más dinámico, noisy y ensoñador.
